Post-Game Talk: Heart breaking loss against the Bolts.

I suppose you're expecting a hat trick from Laine with his minutes and partners (although I liked Owen Beck with him).

So Dach... depends heavily on his partners.
No. But some points would be nice. Of course Habs may not have the right linemates for either of them.

I'm nowhere near as spooked about defensive assignments as many are. I've always said he's a role player
playing a role that many others can assume. If we can't mitigate the role Jake Evans plays inexpensively with a player or even players we have the wrong people at the helm.
Yes, I agree. Just saying we need a remplacement with a defensively reliable vet C. If we go with Suzuki-Dach-Beck and who knows as the C depth, I don’t see Habs playing meaningful games after Christmas.

He isn't getting any younger and might want a chance to win a cup and it would probably take more in dollars to keep him here because of it. Realistically this team could be 2-3 years from being a serious playoff threat let alone a contender.
That was always my take the little run we had panicked some people but as someone pointed out earlier today if we didn't keep Monahan around who was a far more important cog why would a rebuilding team sign him out of hand. Give him a chance at the post season and play it by ear after that.

I saw the last 15 minutes of the third and the team was putting out the same effort as when they were on the winning streak.Totally dominated the Lightning.Where is this effort been the last while?I think MSL has to stop being friends with this group and start giving giving them a swift kick in the rearend ,benching them or send them to the pressbox.something's not right here.

They played hard and controlled a lot of the play. These losses are infinitely more digestible than the complete no-shows.

I love seeing Gally chip in a bit more but our best players weren't our best players. Recipe for disaster.

Since our 1-8 slide began, our offense has fallen off a cliff, in particular from the top guys. Over the last 9 games:

Carrier is the only player on the whole team with more than 1 even strength goal (2).

Hutson has 2 points (18 point pace).

We don't have a single player producing at a 50 point or higher pace.

Our most productive players are Suzuki, Caufield, Newhook and Dach with 5 points each (45 point pace).

Now we're also dead last in the league for goals against over that stretch, so it's not a one or the other situation. Good defense leads to offense, but no matter what if your top guys are producing at a sub 50 point level, your team will not win many games.

The one thing I really didn't like was he demoted Slaf and deservedly so but then he trots him out there on the very next PP we get. Meanwhile that wave has been a nightmare. He ended up earning his way back with his play in the second half of the game but a change may have sparked a Kirby Dach for example.

Not sure if it's the right time in the rebuild to do this move

but maybe trying to acquire Bennett in the off-season could be a nice move if he doesn't sign with the panthers? giving some stability to Demidov and even Slaf with a veteran presence.

Still think we are a #1C, a top 6 winger, a #1 defenseman and a #1 goaltender away from contending. Maybe add a two-way 3C and a top 4RHD after that if you want to make serious damage.

Sometimes it makes me more sympathetic and kinda sad for the team when they put in a big effort and fall on their face

It’s just not a deep or skilled enough roster. The defence is not confident. The players as a whole are not self assured.

Ah well

Exactly.Leave Slaf on the 4th line the whole game.No PP time.Just like a slap on the hand.Shows the kid nothing.

Very good play from the Slafkovský - Dvorak - Gallagher line. Dvorak was playing well for Hans, but if Dvorak played like McDavid, many would be unhappy and would demand his trade.

Slafkovský has played ideally with similar players, see the Slovak national team where he was very good with Pavol Regenda.

I liked the Newhook - Anderson pairing. Speed, agressive, excellent forchecking, Josh won many battles. Dach played poorly.

It may sound strange, but I liked the Laine - Beck - Armia line. I think Beck and Laine could make a very good duo. Patrik improved his play, but he must shoot. I think he needs to return his confidence. The problem - Heineman returns and Beck will probably return to the AHL.

Savard was playing not too good.

Matheson isn't bad, but he's in the same category as Dvorak, for many fans he is zlways tragical.

Hutson and the defense is like fire and water.

Dobeš can't be blame for two goals. But he stumbled on the third.

Can me how? He was playing less time in 5v5 with Evans as center (as winger is good with Suzuki and Canfield) and Armia.

Dvorak - armia- -anderson- - Savard - Evans if not signed-- and several other s need to be looked at for trades

He's pulling a Danault.
People need to wake up he'll try to grab as much money as he can since it's likely his last contract. Only way he sign before july 1st is if he receives a stupid offer and we would be stupid to offer him that stupid offer. He's gone. We'll reap the reward of his career's year and it's fine he's a 3r line center and those are not that hard to find. It's unlikely that not one of Beck and Kapanen can fill that spot in the next 2-3 years. We are missing an entire top 6 line and that should be the focus.

Anderson's contract is very good now. Armia is very good in defense and will be cheap.
Armia is too old. Unless he accept 1 year which he wont we would be stupid to sign him. We can fill that void by trading Struble if needed.
