also Kreider has a NMC at present and him waiving and going almost anywhere is highly unlikely

The heart and the soul? That's a lot of responsibility and pressure for just one guy!
Maybe get a heart forward, or a soul forward, so Gallagher doesn't have to fill both roles...

Gallagher is a regular guy
to his credit he has zero quit and is very tough to play against
but Kreider brings the beast factor
along with his nmc
if no nmc + NY had another 2 Kakkos, maybe then you gamble, speaking theoretically
but they can't just give up his toughness + speed right now
or anytime soon
Historically, the shelf life of undersized heart and soul forwards in this league is not long. They age like milk, not wine. I will roll with the 220 lb guy with rocket speed if I had to choose between the two.

Although, if you want to be precise...
Gallagher averages .611
Kreider is at .605
So, Gallagher averages about half a point more per 82 games

I don’t love the Kreider contract but I like the Gallagher contract even less. I think Kreider has better odds of maintaining his current level for longer just based on his build and fitness level. If you told me Gallagher AAV was a bit less and a couple years shorter then I might’ve been interested. I could see Gallagher’s future trajectory being problematic similar to a guy like Callahan.

Their scoring rates are practically identical. Gallagher is 5’9. Kreider is 6’3. Kreider is built much better for longevity. Kreider is only 13 months older. Kreider has been more much more effective in the playoffs to date. I think it’s reasonable to think Kreider will age better given his physical attributes. You can disagree. You can like Gallagher more. That’s fine. To act like Gallagher is flatly the better player is foolish.
