I would say good job. I'd rather the Rangers win than be right.

I'm all for eating crow if the team has success.
Ryan Callahan with a full support staff of secondary coaches for the x's + o's, running practice, etc.
Provides same glue as in locker room w/spiritual leadership, but now no longer without any authority to resolve any bs.

He's connected to the Toronto Maple Leafs franchise. Toronto is all about hype. No way a guy like Eakins could handle New York. Not as his first NHL gig.
The Marlies probably get as much media attention if not more than the Rangers...
Messier as an assistant to either AV or Rupp makes sense. His legacy is on the line here, and it could be forever tarnished if it's a disaster.
This team is not in the position to take a on a coach without any experience, regardless of his legendary status.

I by no mean want Messier as the coach. He's too much an unknown when it comes to coaching. BUT, being done with the team, the second he gets hired, is a little much. I'd wait and see. Part of the unknown, is surprise. Maybe he'd be good at his job. I don't know. I'd wait and see.
But give me Boucher or Tippett.
I see the masses on the Rangers Facebook page are obdurate on Messier as HC, Graves as Alternate.
Why do people want Messier as assistant coach?
I'd rather the head coach Sather decides on to bring in his own people. Someone that knows their system and are already on the same page. Nothing worse than hiring a new coach and saddling them with someone they might not mesh with.
