Think he would be really good for a lot of our younger guys, it is by and large a young team. Miller, Fasth, Lindberg, Kreider, Hagelin, Brassard, Stepan etc... Think they would benefit from a coach like him, and he has shown the ability to milk offense out of guys if they have even a little natural ability.

He probably won't even be mentioned realistically,
but think of some of the young swedes for the future, not to mention the ones on the team.
Does anyone know his coaching style? He played defense during his career. Was a Ranger (that matters to some). Yes, he was a cheap shot artist lol.....

Still think Dallas Eakins would be the guy, but depending on coaching style, not the worst candidate.

Do we have the real Ulf expressing interest for the head coaching job on our board? :nod:

Loved Ulf on the Rangers. I miss how he used to handle guys in front of the Rangers net. Either put his big, sweaty glove in the guy's face so he couldn't effectively screen the goalie or tip the player's helmet over his eyes. Really creative and punishing D-man he was.

The offense is decent enough to be productive. Boston doesn't have any big offensive names. I'm not saying they could have won the cup. But I do think that they would have faired better in the Boston series, and had a chance of winning that, had Tortorella not **** the bed. He was completely out-coached. He couldn't even get his team to bother setting up on the PP. Took him 3 games to put Kreider with Stepan and Nash when it's clear that his size and speed was needed against the Bruins' D. Took him way too long to scratch Richards/take him off the PP. McDonagh was finally put on the PP in game four, and it improved dramatically. These changes should have been made after game one or game two. Hell, McDonagh should have been on the PP all along. Should not have taken Tortorella until game three of the second round to figure that out.

Boston and LA had players that actually stepped up when they won their cups. Drew Doughty scored 16 points last postseason. Krejci scored 23 points in 25 games. Compare that to Callahan's career 24 points in 59 playoff games. The Rangers two highest paid offensive players combined for 6 points this postseason. Nash had no excuse, puck was on his stick all series.

If Lundqvist really values a cup, his best chance is to leave. He's not getting any closer by removing one of the franchises most succesful coaches and asking for a max contract. Personal awards are the only thing he's winning here.

Haha nah, just a big fan of his. But does anyone know his coaching style? Don't follow SEL as closely as I'd like to.

The biggest problem is that all the coaches that are considered better than "mediocre", already have jobs.

I don't think Eakins will be the choice, while I like him I don't see them hiring anyone with 0 NHL coaching experience unless its Messier (ugh). It's not a matter of me liking Boucher more either, because I don't think either of them will be chosen. This is the New York Rangers after all, we have to hire some Sather crony...

Hopefully I am wrong and we get something fresh.

Fun fact, of the active coaches seven have a points percentage higher than Boucher's .600, Bylsma (.671), Boudreau (.655), McClellan (.649), Babcock (.635), Quennville (.612), Tippet (.611), Julien (.604).

anyone remember the interview with torts (pretty sure it was one of those between the bench interviews) where mcdonagh scored a goal with that move dancing with the puck on the line and torts said, "yeah it's funny you know, i actually told him earlier in this game that i don't like that move and i don't want him doing it, but there you go. he does it this time and he scores again. so shows what i know" (approximate)? best example of losing the room you can possibly think of.

for a guy who has never played professional hockey to tell one of the best guys on the team how to handle the puck just shows a complete lack of trust. for mcdonagh to do it anyway shows a complete lack of respect.

we got to the 2nd round in spite of torts; not because of him. this team is a contender next year even without a roster change if we can just grab a coach that let's us play

for those blaming slats-- yes, he's had a bad track record, but this firing seems to be the only option and it was a good move by sather... should he have done it sooner? probably... but the options aren't that great...

That entire thing was so weird. Boucher was talked up as the big, young new coach and then they just canned him so quickly even though he had a hilariously bad defense.

Yzerman is not a very good GM.

This is something that intrigues me about Vigneault. He's about system, but he's also about minimalism. As long as you're within the framework of the system, just play hockey. He doesn't seem to be a control freak in that way.
 
Guy Boucher is my front runner. Followed by Dallas Eakins.

Something about Boucher that makes me feel he would be perfect for this team.

You get one post about how the players didn't listen to him and did whatever they wanted and the next post is about Tortorella not letting them play the way they wanted to.

Except the McDonagh situation was an exception not the rule. They still played Torts system and he still sat them if they made mistakes.

I thought the McDonagh situation was supposed to be some sort of example of how Torts lost the locker room and the players were doing whatever they wanted to. That's how it was presented.

Some of us, the minority, actually liked seeing Torts hold players accountable. Some of us know that this team isn't as talented as advertised and know that mistake-free, defense first, shot blocking hockey is basically the best way to maximize the roster.
