while I agree with most of what you are saying about torts.......he was the type of coach that held players accountable, had structure and was like a drill sargent when it came to running the team. That can go a long way......when a team is winning.......in torts' case, their was only one real "success" and that was last years ECF appearance.
Now, I think boomer ( be a professional NFL player ) was trying to give insight as to what sort of went down this season. He seemed to be painting the picture that it wasn't the entire team that got sour on torts, but more like a group or the core of the team......and they may have dragged other players into the "let get rid of torts" camp. Apparently it started with a good player who boomer respected a lot......now, not so much respect he says.
I take what boomer says at face value, simply bc he was a professional athlete that saw the inside of a preffessional locket room for many years.
The point here......is this locker room a bunch of whiny cry babies who couldn't take the personal accountability anymore and hated his structure, so they came together to get rid of torts.......or were they just really tired of torts and his crazy comments, bi-polar type personality and other crap.
Boomers comments really make me think it was the first one.
Wasn't the same said about Joel Quennville?
Not advocating AV, but the fact he's a retread is not necessarily a bad thing.
If these rumors had started circulating in the early parts of his tenure, I'd probably buy into the whiny cry babies notion, but Torts has coached this team for parts of 5 seasons. That leads me to believe much more heavily in the latter.
At the same time if a portion of the team wanted the coach out and still had enough pride to a. Make to the playoffs an b. win a round , tells me that they have a ton of pride and did not give up on each other. The next coach is getting a helluva team with tremendous make up.
Yup.
I am willing to give the players the benefit of the doubt, and I feel like this whole "mutiny" is being blown out of proportion. It is very possible that a certain number of players just expressed their concerns about Torts moving forward. When that group is (possibly) your core, you have to take it very seriously.
These guys, especially the veterans, have been with Torts long enough to not simply start whining and get him kicked out.
Ugh, I want no part of AV. He has many of the same problems Torts had but seemingly without the ability to impart an incredible work ethic. Again, AV has had contenders over and over and over and has no cup to show for it. Torts had two contenders, got one to the ECF and lost in the second round with the other. If they're looking to take the next step, I really don't see how/why anyone thinks AV is the guy to do it.
When I think of Vancouver under AV I think of stacked teams that couldn't get the job done.
for the record......boomer actually said it was not Richards who said the above.....
The fact that the front office is interested makes me wonder if I'm overrating him....Am absolutely floored that Eakins is in the mix. Did not expect that level of competence from the front office.
I'll be pretty stoked if we get him.

Never thought of it like that...
OH MY GOD
Someone posted a great read about AV reviewed from Canucks fans a while back. It was a great read, and it really seemed like he had a lot of the same problems Torts did with the stubborn-ness and benching rookies/youngsters for long times/
I'd guess it was Hank. While I absolutely hate the idea of a player throwing a fit to get a coach fired, if anyone was even close to being allowed to do that, it's Hank.
I saw something like that a bit ago, perhaps the same thing, and yeah, many of the complaints were the same things we've been leveling against Torts. Interestingly though, I also noticed on the playoff boards that during the first round, people were piling on Bylsma for the same reasons (no in game adjustments, mysterious ice time management) and when DET was up on CHI, people were saying the same about Q. Makes me wonder if those complaints are just boilerplate "this coach sucks" complaints. Either way, I don't want AV. I'd like someone hungry, but not because they've already failed a million times.
A fit...maybe it was just a conversation with Sather about his concerns.
The hyperbole in this thread is really unreal...
The majority of people always seem to hate their coaches..
I think when it came to Torts, though. He wore out his welcome with his personality to the media and his own players. He had to go..
The fact that the front office is interested makes me wonder if I'm overrating him....
I still have no idea who the hell Dallas Eakins is.
Sounds like a bad ass name, though.

Head coach of the Toronto Marlies. Been highly sought after at the NHL level for a few years. Looks like he'll be getting his shot this year.
In Vancouver while AV goes to Dallas.and we end up with Ruff.
