In all seriousness this is exactly the type of coach I want. Nelson may still have more on Groulx tactically, and I'd absolutely be thrilled to add him, but Groulx sounds exactly like what we need.

Grouxl seems like the type that when a guy like Bunting emerges there is no question of he will regress or not. He seems like that type of coach that if a player can break out under it means they now have the skill level to be a pro but also the fundmentals down to be a successful pro, something I feel like we have lacked. I've personally always been hesitant when a kid has success here, is it a flash in the pan? Will they become unmotivated when they don't get the PP time they may deserve? Are they scoring because there isn't film on them yet? But man has Tampa cranked out pros out of every kind of player you can imagine. Shorter centers like Gourde and Point becoming full time NHL'ers who absolutely are essential to the team, no problem. Turning offensive blueliners into all around great defensemen like Sergachev, just another day in the Lightning org.

Groulx is interesting for sure.

I'd go:

1. Groulx
2. Nelson
3. Tourigny
4. Van Ryn
5. Leach

My list is the same. I'm not sure where I'd put Lambert. No higher than 4th, though. Probably ahead of Leach but probably not ahead of MVR. Three are neck-and-neck for me though. Hopefully it doesn't matter. I'd be happy with any of Groulx, Nelson, or Tourigny. The gap is close on all of those. I feel Nelson is the safest and Groulx is the most exciting. Tourigny is a little of both.

If Groulx had a few more recent championships to his name it wouldn’t even be close, on paper. But his regular season performances have been very strong and there are a few Finals appearances mixed in as well as a World Junior gold.

The only thing keeping him from being way out in front for me is that he's never played or coached even one game in the NHL, even as an assistant.

Nelson and MVR are the only formal interviews so far I believe. I'm not holding out hope for Groulx. Seems like they're waiting on Lambert and that will be their final three.

maybe but the same could be said for about 7 or 8 current head coaches

I’m not even sure how much it matters if a coach hasn’t played in the NHL considering how different the game has become since they were playing-age.

I just think we haven’t had an update in a while. I wouldn’t be surprised if there have been formal interviews with 3-4 guys by the time we get the next update from Friedman or Morgan.

I'm starting to lean this way too. Even if we don't bring in Leach as the HC, I kinda want to bring him in as an assistant if we can. In fact, if it were possible, I'd hire Nelson as HC and bring in Leach and Groulx as assistants. I just get this feeling that Leach is going to be someone sooner than later and I want that to be with us.

I don’t expect Groulx to leave Syracuse for an AC spot. He just signed an extension and seems really happy there. His GM loves him and he seems on the short list for HC spots for budget teams. He had an interview for an HC spot with an unidentified NHL club last off-season.

Yea that definitely makes it unlikely. I was speaking from a dreamers POV.

I hope we don’t wait for Lambert. I’d much rather have Groulx, Nelson, or Tourigny. Neither Elliotte nor Craig mentioned Groulx in their latest pods, however. Both mentioned Nelson, MVR, and Tourigny. I like Nelson and Tourigny an awful lot more than MVR. Nelson keeps getting mentioned as having done an extra good job of impressing the team. The seeming cooling on waiting for Lambert makes me wonder if they haven’t just become enamored with Nelson. Nelson would be fine with me. Especially if it’s this week or next and I can’t stop worrying about it. Lol.

MVR has two seasons total in the chair. It's crazy early for him. Thompson has five (14 total behind the bench) and didn't even get a formal interview that we know of.
