Yes. I’m not saying this was a mistake. But firing the coach is one “get yer ass outta sling” maneuver Benning no longer has at his disposal. He’s a bad start away from being chit canned if he can generate some buzz. Enter OEL.

Also one less landing spot for the coaching candidates we like.

I think we can still get a good deal. We're not gonna have to take out Benning's trash.

I was pretty surprised to hear the Natty Hatty crew float the possibility of Tippett being fired if the Oilers lose in Round 1.

Tippett has 1 year left on his contract. I'd think he gets a small extension this summer.

maybe Tippett should make himself GM. ;)
I might not be remembering how it all went down correctly, but perhaps he was less interested in having the unproven, inexperienced Chayka have full say, and since ownership at the time was looking to not spend wherever possible, that is how he saw it as necessary to get himself into the president role. I doubt he sees a need to control the GM anymore on a team with an experienced GM, though he's still going to have opinions of course on how the team ought to be built.

Why would anyone want to be associated with the Coyotes during that time. We had AB, the poorest and dumbest NHL owner, and we later find out the dumbest, lying, cheating GM the NHL has ever seen.

You mean Tip didn't want to coach a team built by an inexperienced 28 year old? I wonder why he would think that way? Maybe he knew Chayka was a mistake, hard to say:)

I'm not sure that Barroway was the dumbest NHL owner. He's like a house flipper that puts wallpaper over a cracked foundation. So maybe the least scrupulous owner but probably not the dumbest, depending on how you view intelligence. He made his quick profit. He's scum. He's the problem with unregulated capitalism. He's the epitome of greed and selfishness. I blame him for the botched rebuild. Chayka was just following a mandate.

Tippett was BEYOND stale here anyhow. He was WAAAY past his expiration date. It was right to move on from Tippett. There was absolutely no mistake made there. The mistake was hiring Tocchet. It should have been Nelson or Keefe instead.
Thats what Dallas said, thats what AZ said too, yet 4 years later both teams were worse. Edmonton will say the same thing:) Sounds good, shelf life, need a change and all, but the results were way worse.
