Draft is over, the smoke has settled. Musto and BWC likely flipped their lid over 3-4 of the kids we drafted that they never actually saw play before lol...

I am sure we will do our top 20 in the next few months, but figured now is the time to start looking at the overall strength and health of our prospect pool considering we have been in a 8 year rebuild already!!

Losing Bedard and Korchinski hurts overall...and Reichel by my account is no longer eligible as well (someone can correct that if needed). Not a ton of star power here, but lots and lots of depth...

Based on the title, I assumed it was the ranking of the depth of the pool which would clearly be #1 in the league.

Even just on pure talent, I think CHI will be close to #1, if not #1. Too many recent ungraduated 1st round picks now, with Levshunov leading the pack.

Just off the top..

I like SJ better for sure. They are the clear #1 for me.
I think I like Anaheim better
I think I like MTL better.
Philly is right there as well.
CBJ has a really good pool.

So I put 4th, but its close with a couple.

Depth....yes quite impressive. Elite top end impact NHL players....not so sure the pool is all that. Good news is we have such a deep pool that we have a lot of kicks at the can to turn real good prospect into one of those high impact NHL players....and if we can hit on a couple....things get fun real quick. 2 more 1st next year with our own hopefully getting us that high impact forward.

If we can hit on one of Korch or Lev as a top pairing D (even as more of a #2 than a #1) and one of Moore or Nazar as a high end 2nd liner, we'll be in reeally good shape. We have so many middle pairing and middle 6 prospects that We should at worse be able to fill those spots internally even if one doesn't blossom into more than we expect at this point. Even that should give us a middle of the roster on ELC's where you can go get your Hossa as a free agent in a couple of Summers.

I think the best way to look at this is "Best Talent Pool Under 21-23(?) Years Old" instead of "Prospect Pool".

Having Celibrini and Smith on there for SJ while having to entirely omit Bedard and Korchinski from ours, really skews the perspective. I agree that I'd take SJ from a pure "prospect" point of view, but once you factor in Bedard and KK to our list, it is a lot more comparable.

I am sure the Hawks internally look at both, but lots of teams could say the same thing with some of their young stars in the NHL and not considered prospects any longer. I don't see many teams matching our depth as is without Bedard and Korchinski..the fact that we have like 12 more 1st and 2nd round picks the next 3 years is pretty damn insane as well lol...

Not sure about the high end scoring, but you have to like our D. I still would have taken Demidov to enable that, but then the D is less complete so there's always trade offs....With the type of players they are focusing on, there could be some really good depth eventually.

Best overall group of 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and 06s (23 and Under as of December 31, 2024) is an interesting list too. Those predictably tend to skew a bit towards the older side since it picks up a lot of young already producing at a high level NHL talent (i.e., Jack Hughes born May 14, 2001).

So of out better prospects who turns pro next year. AL, Moore, rinsel, Greene, thompson, Lardis,

not kantersov or Gajan. from this draft the only one might Sacha if he has a big year. Marek could in 2 years since he is missing a 1/2 of a year. the others look like 3years out.

The thing is….if you technically include Bedard(who is still 18) and Korchinski(who just turned 20 a couple weeks ago)….then it’s ours by a country mile. Just the Bedard factor alone gives us a huge advantage IMO.

For instance San Jose doesn’t have 2 players anywhere close to that quality that are still 20 and under but graduated already.

We have the best group of 20 and under talent in the NHL without question. Then there’s talents like Vlasic and Reichel who are a bit older but still nowhere near fully developed. We’re ABSOLUTELY LOADED. And much more to come.

We definitely have a strong under 23 group of plyers. we shouldn't be overpaying for any 3rd liner or 3rd pairing dmen for years to come, they are all here in due time. The sheer odds of at least 6-8 of these kids becoming bonafide NHLers is extremely high. If we draft anywhere near how we did in those 02-07 years by getting guys like Hammer, Buff, Bickell, Brouwer, Keith, Bolland, Crow, etc from 2nd round-7th round, this could be a really long and dominant run. A lot has to happen right, but on pure lotto tickets, we have a ton right now and more to come.

It's a solid list. But 100% of the guys in the AHL score zero combined goals in the NHL. The Hawks need to actually develop these guys into productive NHL players. We've sucked at that for a while now.
