must have something bigger lined up they need picks for. I cant see them going into a rebuild after just making the playoffs with a younger core
When I saw picks I thought the same thing.

So what has me scratching my head is a 29' protected 1st and 30' 2nd. I doubt most gms have that kind of job security.

Then I just remind myself that it's Ottawa, and it's a special place.

The Canes just won the cup with a guy who not only was released but worked at Chipotle like 5 years ago...anyone worked at Portillo's the Panthers can pick up?
I know what you mean, and I appreciate you making it more Chicago-centric with a Portillo's reference, but just because it worked for the Canes one time doesn't mean other teams and other goalies are going to have the same luck.

Look at Edmonton, look at Toronto. They didn't luck into a goalie that could backstop them to a championship. More often than not, you need to pay to have a quality starter. With this Brady move, it's become a lot more complicated for Florida to be able to pay for that netminder.

Not that I'm complaining, I'm hoping for a shit season for them. I want that 1st to be as high as possible.

Why didn’t the oilers just pick up a starting goalie from a fast food place if it is so easy like you make it seem. McDavid would have won a cup by now.

Reality is goalies are incredibly volatile at this point and flash in the pan goalies (Bussi, Murray, Hill, Darling, etc don’t last long and have been replaced by their teams for a reason). Hell I would even say Vegas believing in Hill is what held them back the last several years as he reverted back to the same nothing goalie he was before the trade

This guy must be talking out of his ass. This makes absolutely no sense.

Trade away(arguably) your best player for 2 1sts and a 2nd, then offersheet Robertson who would cost 4 1sts? Ain't no way.
I think that if you look at the BT deal as OTTs hand being forced and BTs value only decreasing as he approaches UFA, OS Robertson makes sense. OTT wants to move forward and compete with a core around Stutzle, Sanderson and BTs replacement.

Both EDM and TO are lacking defensively, have a lack of buy in and structure. Oilers went along the right path hiring a hard ass X and O coach like Babcock, although I would have prefered Sutter or Trotz. That's a whole different conversation, though. I think a team with good D and good structure can make an average goalie into a cup winner. Goalies essentially the running backs of the NHL. Don't spend a tremendous amount of assets on them, invest in O line in football or D in hockey instead.

You would need a top 5 goalie to save either of those teams as currently constructed (going back a handful of years)
