Hawks @ Devils, 14 Dec 2024, 12 PM CT

Just call up the kids from Rockford. Go super young next year. They’ll compete their asses off at least.

I say let’s do both. Let’s call up the kids/go young but let’s also make some legit upgrades via FA/trade. And then strike big the following year, too.

Just finished watching recorded version….

Vlasic was so good defensively.

Nazar was fine. My only concern with him early on is that he seems to get hit hard often.

I thought Korchinski was mostly good except for the really, really bad turnover that lead to the goal against.

Kaiser sucks and I hope he’s the guy sent to Rockford when SJ returns, but I doubt that’s the case.

TT is useless and has no role on a team this bad with his style. Bad signing.

I’m close to wanting Donato gone on a level comparable to Hall. Watching him and Bedard out there at the same time is infuriating. Bedard could be wide open and all alone and Donato would still try an off balance shot through 4 defenders.

The Nazar hype died fast...A non-factor...1 shot on goal-1 but worst of all Lostv6/7 draws.

Losing fCeoffs costing the team offensively.. always havecto chase or go back on loose pucks..

It's a big problem finding cebters for the Hawkscthay can windows and drive lines and produce and defend.

Another little center who might be shoved to wing among many Hawks pipeline small skill wingers..

Hawks need talent help at proper positions..

This is hoing to take along time ...several more drafts to fix..

And as I posted before...52 more games to endure this Tank season.

Obviously the Hawks lack offensive talent most of all but can we please quit blaming others for Bedard's game. He makes more mistakes than most of the forwards - he needs to adjust his game to adapt to the NHL. As we all know, talent alone is not enough in this league.

I’m not suggesting Bedard had a good game, but him and Donato on a line don’t make sense for either guy to play well.

But that’s the result of a bad roster and Donato not being forced to a 3rd line role where he should be.

I want Vlasic and KK handling the puck when they're on the ice not Jones. Jones handling the puck would stand in the way of their development.
Fine but I'd take Seth Jones over TJ freaking Brodie right now.

Bedard did have a really good game? He hit the post twice, set up all kinds of plays that his teammates of course flubbed.

Guess what? He’s probably going to stop trying to dangle through whole teams when his teammates have an ability to play actual hockey.

He had some good plays, I can’t believe that shot at the very beginning of the game didn’t go in. The stick handling to beat 3-4 defenders was incredible.

But he had some bad plays too, and a few too cutesy backhanded pass plays back to the middle of the ice.

He was fine today, wouldn’t say he had a good or bad game really.

A bad roster indeed ..... but I will never criticize a forward for being a shoot-first player, especially when he has an excellent shot like Donato has. It is up to his linemates to look for rebounds and/or play north/south style hockey. Pretty tic-tac goals are lovely but most goals aren't. If the puck goes to the net the chances of a scoring chance increase. Don't make Bedard out to be a one-dimensional sniper. He is more than that.

Donato doesn’t have an excellent shot lol.

Hey guys!

Too lazy to read through the thread. How did Nazar look? Did he seem overwhelmed of does it look like he belongs?

I like Korchinski too. Hope he sticks around!

Thanks

PS--I had many a fun time in Chitown back in the day. Awesome city!!

I imagine Bedard knows and understands he's more than a one dimensional player, even if they were going to get him focused/conditioned to NHL snipe shooting - mainly because that would end up opening up the ice more for the other "Bedard-isms'. I think you guys nailed it - in that his linemates are not able to be those guys for him at this point. But definitely not a bad idea to condition him to thinking he -is- the man -the trigger guy, and he teammates should be (eventually - like as other seasons -hopefully sooner, rather than later) be setting him up for the quality scoring chances.

Right now he is probably of the mindset of that if he doesn't do it himself, it ain't getting done (which has been pretty much accurate this season, and last). Just my take. Otoh I didn't get to watch the game - as on a bit too early for my side of the planet.

Korchinski was so so good all game and then one brain fart. Bedard walks the team, crossbar. Then the wheels fall off. It's so frustrating because honestly it feels like they are closer than it appears a lot of the time.

I think it's a great sign.

Once we add a few more prospects who are ready to replace the aging vets, or non impactful players, everything will fall in place and the team can take off.

Of course if one is only looking at the immediate game to game W/L, than I understand the outrage show by most posters.

It was always, always going to take time, there are no magic buttons you can just press to be good.

What do you think is a reasonable time frame to wait for suitable top linemates with Bedard? Who would be on that line? I think day one of his arrival should have had him paired with one suitable top line player, not just some "spin the wheel for a third liner of the day". At worst, the start of THIS season should've been the due date for such an assignment.

I don't see any top line players being traded soon nor do I see any of the Hawks' prospects becoming that this year or next. Maybe the guy the get at the top of the draft next year could be that in year 1? Unlikely but possible.

The best chance is free agency this summer. There will be debate on if the Hawks could or even should go after Rantanen, Marner, or Ehlers but that'll be the best chance to get a legit top liner sooner rather than later.

I don't recall these great set ups you speak of and he did have some bad luck. Take away the careless giveaways and Bedard did have a decent game overall .... and let's hope you are right about the fruitless dangling we see each game. Even the best players in the world have to dump and chase on occasion.

Bedard on a line with Marner would give ops nightmares but I can't see Leafs giving up Marner. If Leafs are forced to trade one of their top 6 players, I reckon it would be Tavares.

Yeah I'm mostly in agreement although hindsight helps right.

I think eventually it's this years& next year's pick thats going to be the true top line partners. And one of th Vanacker/Moore/Boisvert type talent level as a third wheel.

But I'm also in the camp of bringing in Rantanen or Marner to give him legit help. I think one such player won't f*** up our cap structure down the line.

Anyway, next year Bedard should have better players and then the year after is when I want to see Misa/Martone/McKenna or whoever stapled there.
