Have you lost respect for the Tkachuk bros?

Calgary and Ottawa are pretty trash franchises in recent times, so I don't see why it is controversial to want out of them.

What respect did I ever have for them? Mainly hockey skill, but this doesn't really swing that aspect toward one direction or another.

The different COVID-era lockdowns and restrictions in Canada vs. USA really changed how some players feel about living and raising a family in Canada, I feel.

No

I just don’t think Brady is that good
His last name does a sh/t load of heavy lifting in his true worth

He has an insanely low IQ and doesn’t understand the nuances that his brother does

He’ll fight a 4th liner and Giroux would yell at him saying “why are you making that trade off”

Since when were they ever respected? Forced their way out from their teams, a big ol jerk dad they defend on their obnoxious podcast, jerks on the ice, talking s**t about Canada - while being Trumps little lapdogs? May earn you respect in the old slave states I guess

In addition to the taxes.

There’s a reason why 90% of Canadian born NHl players don’t want to play in Canada and live in the US after they retire.

It couldn’t possibly matter less that they were drafted by Canadian teams.

They’re not obligated to stay with the teams that drafted them forever. I’d argue (especially Matthew) did right by them in letting them well in advance so they could get value back for them.
This. The draft process is arbitrary from the player's perspective. Good players will get lucrative contracts because that is the market rate. They would have got roughly the same amount of money in any American team.

In any other profession it would be ridiculous to fault an employee changing a company because of personal reasons. The process literally happens in the manner that is intended. Trades happen and if the management has wanted to reduce AAV by giving full no movement clause, the player is in his rights to exercise that.

Of course anybody is free to feel however they want about players. You can love, hate or respect them all you want. Personally I'm not wired in a tribal way and I prefer following players instead of teams and I don't feel any ill will when a player decides that he wants to move to a different team. If I would be in their position, I would also prioritize my family if that is possible in a reasonable way. Ofc you have to do your job well, but at the end of the day you will spend 50+ years with your family and maybe only 5-10 years with one company.

Both Matthew and Brady were drafted and developed by Canadian teams (Matthew - CGY, Brady - OTT). Both were signed to lucrative contracts by their individual teams. And both forced their way out of their respective teams. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Great players - one of the better sets of brothers to play in the NHL - but I have lost all respect for the Tkachuk family. :thumbd:

They got their teams assets unlike Tavares. Or is how Tavares left the better option all of a sudden because we like Tavares?

The concept of "I draft you and heres your league-migitated entry level contract. Now you should be loyal servant from here to eternity and live your life where and how I tell you" is quite interesting. Like, Tkachuk brothers would never had made it to NHL if not drafted by Calgary and Ottawa.

From the day you are drafted you are seen as an "asset" for NHL org. You will be used by the max value for the org that drafted you. Theres nothing more to it. Loyalty goes for the people around you, not for an logo or the billionaire behind it.

Free agency restrictions should be shorter. 1 year ELC + 2 years RFA.

Never really regarded them as anything other than good hockey players before all of this.

That said, in a world that's swinging ever more in the favor of terrible employers, I will never hold it against employees that understand their worth and dictate their own paths.

Ah so you don't know anything about history. Not surprising. If this were true, the confederate flag would be supported by democrats. Get smarter.
Other than obscure fringe individuals are Republicans supporting the Confederate Flag? I wouldn't say so.

The truth of the matter is attributing slavery, jim crow or general racial prejudice too one party or another is largely a fools errand. Platforms, positions and "target markets" for the party's have dramatically shifted over the last 150+ years. The parties have exchanged certain histories and perspectives that saying either is accountable for racial injustice in general does not hold water.

The Tkachuk brothers annoy me, because their reputation exceeds their actual on-ice value.

As a Flames fan, our management screwed up the Tkachuk and Gaudreau signings. And he gave us plenty of notice so that we could make a trade well in advance.

He also helped prevent 2 Oilers cups. Nothing but respect for the guy, I will just avoid his politics which is why I think most hate him.

I don't really have a strong opinion on Brady. But I like Matthew.
