The different COVID-era lockdowns and restrictions in Canada vs. USA really changed how some players feel about living and raising a family in Canada, I feel.
This. The draft process is arbitrary from the player's perspective. Good players will get lucrative contracts because that is the market rate. They would have got roughly the same amount of money in any American team.It couldn’t possibly matter less that they were drafted by Canadian teams.
They’re not obligated to stay with the teams that drafted them forever. I’d argue (especially Matthew) did right by them in letting them well in advance so they could get value back for them.
Both Matthew and Brady were drafted and developed by Canadian teams (Matthew - CGY, Brady - OTT). Both were signed to lucrative contracts by their individual teams. And both forced their way out of their respective teams. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.
Great players - one of the better sets of brothers to play in the NHL - but I have lost all respect for the Tkachuk family.![]()
Other than obscure fringe individuals are Republicans supporting the Confederate Flag? I wouldn't say so.Ah so you don't know anything about history. Not surprising. If this were true, the confederate flag would be supported by democrats. Get smarter.
Never had i realized before how degraded, dehumanized and frankly mistreated these poor little pro athletes are with their meagre 8 figure contracts and being constrained to work in a specific city for a few years. I really can't imagine going through all of that. They're survivors. The concept of "I draft you and heres your league-migitated entry level contract. Now you should be loyal servant from here to eternity and live your life where and how I tell you" is quite interesting. Like, Tkachuk brothers would never had made it to NHL if not drafted by Calgary and Ottawa.
From the day you are drafted you are seen as an "asset" for NHL org. You will be used by the max value for the org that drafted you. Theres nothing more to it. Loyalty goes for the people around you, not for an logo or the billionaire behind it.
Free agency restrictions should be shorter. 1 year ELC + 2 years RFA.

Who are the top 3 professional flame baiting trolls? This. Great players, but both come across as the type of shitty individuals who'd probably be professional internet flamebaiting trolls if the hockey thing didn't work out for them.
