It couldn’t possibly matter less that they were drafted by Canadian teams.

They’re not obligated to stay with the teams that drafted them forever. I’d argue (especially Matthew) did right by them in letting them well in advance so they could get value back for them.

This. The draft process is arbitrary from the player's perspective. Good players will get lucrative contracts because that is the market rate. They would have got roughly the same amount of money in any American team.

In any other profession it would be ridiculous to fault an employee changing a company because of personal reasons. The process literally happens in the manner that is intended. Trades happen and if the management has wanted to reduce AAV by giving full no movement clause, the player is in his rights to exercise that.

Of course anybody is free to feel however they want about players. You can love, hate or respect them all you want. Personally I'm not wired in a tribal way and I prefer following players instead of teams and I don't feel any ill will when a player decides that he wants to move to a different team. If I would be in their position, I would also prioritize my family if that is possible in a reasonable way. Ofc you have to do your job well, but at the end of the day you will spend 50+ years with your family and maybe only 5-10 years with one company.

Both Matthew and Brady were drafted and developed by Canadian teams (Matthew - CGY, Brady - OTT). Both were signed to lucrative contracts by their individual teams. And both forced their way out of their respective teams. Talk about biting the hand that feeds you.

Great players - one of the better sets of brothers to play in the NHL - but I have lost all respect for the Tkachuk family.

Free agency restrictions should be shorter. 1 year ELC + 2 years RFA.

The truth of the matter is attributing slavery, jim crow or general racial prejudice too one party or another is largely a fools errand. Platforms, positions and "target markets" for the party's have dramatically shifted over the last 150+ years. As a Flames fan, our management screwed up the Tkachuk and Gaudreau signings. And he gave us plenty of notice so that we could make a trade well in advance.

He also helped prevent 2 Oilers cups. Nothing but respect for the guy, I will just avoid his politics which is why I think most hate him.

I don't really have a strong opinion on Brady. But I like Matthew.

Never had i realized before how degraded, dehumanized and frankly mistreated these poor little pro athletes are with their meagre 8 figure contracts and being constrained to work in a specific city for a few years. I really can't imagine going through all of that. They're survivors.

That has pretty much nothing to do with loyalty that people seem to call them out for. Respecting a contract and league restrictions (restricted to the team who drafted you) is a different thing.

Neither of Tkachuk's did anything to break or disrespect their contract or NHL agreements that they signed. And I dont see either of them complaining for the time they spent in CGY/OTT, just wanting to do something else after their current contract is done. Whats the problem in that?

Following on this thought, rich and entitled athletes should have no rights and no right to want things for themselves (like location, playing with your brother, tax-free-state, weather, winning culture etc)? Because they are rich and entitled?

Not quite sure what you are after with your burst. Do you think only rich athletes should not be allowed to choose where they work without being called out for it, after they have fullfilled their contractual obligations, or does this also include poor people?
