To me, it is almost more fun to root for your team away from home when the team has to step it up against the home team and their loud supporters.


I am curious. Have you ever gone to see the Kings away from home? Which arenas have you seen them play in? What was the atmosphere like there? How were you treated by the home supporters? Which cities were cool and which were similar to how New York looked like in the movie- Escape from NY?

Buffalo two years ago with a slew of friends, we lost 4-2 and I was so drunk I didn't even notice until the buzzer sounded.

Last year was Toronto, we won 3-2 in the slam dunk contest. Both were pretty fun in terms of being the "bad guy." Everybody I ran into was good natured about it.

Seen Kings games in Edmonton and Winnipeg.

It was not great in Edmonton. There was several other Kings fans, but it was not great treatment from the Oiler fans. Got challenged to fights several times, although I managed to avoid getting beer spilt on me.

Funny story actually. I was at a Kings game in Edmonton a few years ago. It was a decent enough section with a few Kings fans, including two right in front of me. So I talking to them a fair bit. Nice people. My buddy I was with was not a Kings fan, so I was telling him about the team. Our #7 D at the time was Nathan Dempsey. I was not happy with him, and he made several really bad mistakes and I was beaking him pretty hard all game. In the 3rd period I decided to ask how the people in front me how they became Kings fans. It was Nathan Dempsey's cousin and her husband... Did not know he was from Spruce Grove, right outside Edmonton.

It was better in Winnipeg last year. Not too many Kings fans, but it was a lot of fun. Everybody was good. It probably helped that as season ticket holder for the Jets I knew everybody around me, so although I had my Kings jersey on it was a good time. But even going in and out and concessions people were much better and friendlier than Edmonton, nobody shouting insults or trying to fight me, 15000 vs 1 like EDM.

i still don't understand the mentality of people wanting to fight a fan over a jersey. it's one thing to chirp and talk some trash. that's all in fun. you do it at your house with friends, at bars, why shouldn't it continue you at the arena.

im going to the game sunday against the Hawks. first thing the wife asked of course was, are you wearing your Kings stuff? hell yes i am! wear your colors, but be respectful of the other team and their fans. its their barn after all. which for CHI i have no issue with, because i actually like the team and many of its players

Anaheim only. Barn is a dump, sound system is so bad you can't understand a word the PA is saying.

Fans are so apathetic they didn't seem to care much that Kings fans were about 40/60 of the arena. Then again they were enjoying the last game so much they probably liked the fact Kings were in town.

Exactly. Most people are really good. You have to be able to take if you are wearing an away jersey, but you can give it back as well, so long as it's in good fun. Just gotta pick your spots and don't be stupid and it can be almost more fun than a home game (although I cannot WAIT to get to Staples Centre one day)...

I did the same thing one time for our local junior team. They were playing a road game in another community so me and a few buddies decided to make a trip out of it and went to watch them play. One of the local players had been traded to this other team, and the kid was a gong show on the ice. Basically, Dustin Penner of junior hockey, good size, good hands, toolbox the size of a kindergarten kid's lunchkit and the work ethic of a clam.

So I was beaking him pretty hard too, and of course, who is sitting in the row right in front of me? His step-dad. And of course he's not some little guy either, he likely could have ate me for lunch and still looked for dessert after, and I'm not some little stringbean myself. I got challenged to go outside, (rightly so too) which I politely declined and shut my trap after that. Then we moved after the break.

I still need to get down there and watch the Kings play in Winnipeg. I assume they'll be in Winnipeg next season, hopefully I can get away and go.

Went to Buffalo 4 times, all loses.

2-0 (1994) I think Robb Stauber stopped Alex Mogilny on a penalty shot in that game.
10-1 (2006) At least I got a free slice of pizza because Jason Pominville got a hattrick. Also stayed in the same hotel as the Kings so I got to meet some of the players.
5-0 (2008) Saw LaBarbera in net, that was enough in itself, yuck.
4-2 (2010) Another loss, this one was on my birthday.

Campbell Conference Finals 1993 versus TO Game 7. Arguably Gretzky's greatest game ever. My brother somehow got tix and we sat way up top. Simply amazing.

Haven't missed a Kings game in Ottawa since 2000 (I was born in 1990, so I was 10 years old). I remember a few years back (maybe 2008) I went in my Dustin Brown jersey and everyone was chirping me. Someone even yelled "WAYNE GRETZKY DOESN'T PLAY THERE ANYMORE"... The Kings won that night though hahaha. I still remember it was Simmonds and Doughty's rookie year.

I went to the game two or three years ago, when Ryan Smyth scored with no time left on the clock but they called it a high stick. I don't know if you guys remember that? I took a girl to see the game with me, we haven't spoken since looool i think you guys can imagine why, I was going NUTS

Oh, and no joke, there was maybe 4-5 other Kings fans. NO ONE cheers for the Kings in Ottawa, which makes it even cooler! #HIPSTER

I usually go to the Kings games in Dallas. Since Dallas has been bad for a few years now, it's easy to get cheap tickets from stubhub and I've never had any issues going to the games wearing my Kings jersey.

Luckily the Kings have done very well in Dallas recently and I see the Kings win more often than not.

been to Anaheim a bunch (obviously), but since I've moved out here to the midwest I've seen them in Detroit twice, Chicago and Nashville.

The two Detroit games were December 13th, 2010 where Quick had his 50 (52?) save shutout and the Kings won 5-0. I was all decked out in Kings gear and was going to get tickets from the box office so I ask a random person where the box office is and he happens to be a season ticket holder with a spare ticket so he just gave me his spare ticket. What an awesome dude! The second one was this past Sunday and we all know how that ended. My girlfriend's grandpa has season tickets and gave us those seats for the game. I was on TV for that game, I was close enough to the ice to where you could see me celebrate when the Kings scored.

The Chicago game was December 30th or 31st, 2007. The Kings won 3-2 in overtime. I remember being really mad at the time before the game cause they had beaten their previous opponent, Colorado, and since their 4 game winning streak in October they had yet to win back to back games.

The Nashville game was March of last year. LA was doing a midwest swing during Spring Break so I figured I'd go watch them play in Nashville, LA won the game 5-4.

Always go to games in Alberta (both Edmonton and Calgary). Flames fans are usually ok but that is becasue the kings always stink at the dome. The few times I have gone where the kings win some have been rude but overall ok. Only real story would be when Phaneuf ran Kopitar on an incing. I was 1st row in that corner and I was pissed!! Got into it with a couple of Flames fans who thought that Dion should not have been penalized let alone ejected from the game. The coaches got into it as well. It was a good time.

The crowd in Edmonton is louder than Calgary. Rexal is a dump but the fact it is so straight up helps make it feel louder and liek you are right over the ice.

Went to a Lacrosse game here in Calgary with some buddies. We were making fun of the cheer leaders about how slutty they looked, and how they mus t have no respect. Just joking around but pretty crude stuff. Turns out we were sitting with all of their families. I have no idea how a dad did not punch us. I would not have blamed him if he had, and would have just took it.

Seen em in SJ since that's my local team sadly, as well as Calgary twice. Was gunna make the 12 hr drive up to Seattle, visit a friend, then drive north to hang with another friend in Bellingham and go to a Nucks/Kings game but he couldn't afford the tickets so that got scrapped. Was gunna be the March 2nd game.

Oh yeah and some girl called Dany Heatley one of the best defensive players in the league and when I absolutely lost my **** laughing hysterically, her boyfriend wanted to fight me. Get heckled a bit by Sharks fans, mostly though by the douchey college kids or drunk fans who know dick all about hockey anyways.

Really? Edmonton seems so gradual to me, at least compared to MTS Centre I guess. You should come to a game at MTS Centre, it is 10000x times steeper and you are way more over the ice than Rexall. I am closer to the ice (in horizontal direct line from the ice surface) in row 7 of the upper deck in MTS Centre than I am in like row 10 in the lower bowl in Edmonton.

Of course MTS Centre is also a much much nicer arena haha.

Quite a few times. Living in Seattle, I have to pick my chances, but I've gone up to Vancouver to see them a few times (always fun because **** Vancouver fans). I've also seen them in Tampa Bay and went to gm 5 of the SCF in NJ.

The only thing that sucks about seeing them on the road is catching all the crap from home-team fans if they lose.

I've seen the Kings at Columbus, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville and Minnesota.

Columbus - beautiful arena, nice area of town, fans were fine. Kings lost 3-1

Chicago (2x) - Nice arena, Amazing atmosphere, Most fans were good, 1 Hawks fan said "**** you *****" as I was walking out after the Kings won. Other than that, everything was great. Kings won 2-0 and 3-2 SO

Detroit - Rundown arena, Nasty part of town, driving around the city was awful and I thought I might die, People in the streets all over screaming that they were gonna kill each other and saying other things. Lots of little things for fans pre game. Fans were okay. The guy I was sitting next to was really nice, but a lot of others were just disrespectful. Kings lost 4-3

Nashville - Nice arena, Beautiful town, Nice atmosphere, Didn't have much interaction with fans, but the ones I did talk to were extremely nice. Funny story from Nashville. I happened to glance at the guys phone next to me and saw his texts. He sent his buddy a message that said "At the game, Sitting by Kings fans" and his buddy responded "Well, at least there aren't ducks fans." haha. Kings won 5-4

Minnesota - Great arena, Loud fans, Nice people, Great atmosphere, nice area of town. Nothing but good things to say about Minnesota. Kings lost 4-3 SO

I've never been to a game in LA, but I imagine it's great being with a bunch of other Kings fans.

I see games at the Shark Tank all the time, given that that is the closest arena and I have family that lives in the area. For the most part it is a great experience. Only once have I had a bad experience. For the most part, you will be left alone and the heckles will be friendly.

I live in Alberta and seen the Kings in Calgary many times, going to the game Feb. 20th The fans at the saddledome are really good, never really had a problem with any flames Fans. One thing i do know, Saddledome is the heaviest Beer drinkers in the league....you better head down to the bathrooms and beer lines with about 5 mins left in each period or your waiting in a long long line!
