Not all shots are equal. He missed the net on the breakaways. He had at least 3 breakaways and a 2 on 1 in regulation. Does he miss those shots if he’s 100%? Like I said the luck goes both ways.

He could have "deserved" to scored 3 goals in regulation on the ridiculous assumption that he should score every time he gets a quality chance, and Toronto still should have deserved to lose because they got caved in to a ridiculous amount of quality scoring chances.

Are you talking about the PK chances? Those were about equivalent to the 2 PK chances from Bratt and Nico on their first PK. Nico also had a breakaway on the PK later. Pretending that Matthews got robbed but ignoring the other side having very similar chances is weak

Markstrom had a shitshow of a game.

Nemec-Casey sucked ass. Thankfully they have since been replaced with arguably the best pairing in the NHL

Overall a pretty even game, I wouldn't complain about the result either way.

Anecdotal evidence of a game or 2 is pretty meaningless at the NHL level.

Understanding how much luck has to do with the result of an individual game would do you well.

But good for you in thosee 2 games.

Unfortunately in the other 34 you guys are 20-12-2 while we are 24-10-2

I disagree on that. The Devils goalie is from the Stamkos draft. We've seen what the Devils are without a goalie. If it's dependent on Markstrom, it'll be even shorter than the Leafs window.

Also, the teams are pretty close in age. The cores have a 1-3 year age gap. The Devils definitely have more younger pieces, but so do Buffalo, that doesn't mean they're going to turn out.

I think people think the Leafs core is much older because they've been making the playoffs in their rookie seasons, whereas Hughes missed the playoffs 4 of his first 5 seasons.

So, you are saying the Devils won't be able to find another goalie after Markstrom retires or moves on? That's a pretty lame argument.

I guess JT slowing down doesn't impact the Leafs.

devils are a good team, just look at the names and you’ll see why. They have a great Center duo, they have really good wingers like Meier and bratt, and then they have an insane defensive core

Being a leafs fan, I am a bit biased against keefe so I want to see them in the playoffs before making a full assessment on the team, but they’ve been really good so far.

Leafs already beat NJ twice this season. Once with a goalie that was playing his first NHL game against NJ while the team was playing on the second half of a travelling back to back against a NJ team who had a week off.

They have high picks but that doesn't guarantee they'll turn out. Devils are already against the cap with L. Hughes and Nemec needing bigger contracts this year and next. They'll have to navigate that also it's not like everyone can turn out and they can afford to keep everyone.

we save 5.5m on our 1c and another 5.7m on our best two wings, which easily pays us a second first line center and gives us some millions to bolser the goalie position.

the devils will have to move on from palat and/or hamilton once their nmc will be reduced to m-ntc next summer to pay the young players. but the devils cap issues are manageable because our stars are willing to sacrifice a few millions for the chance to win a title.

However the argument was, and always has been, that neither NJ nor Toronto has proven anything. The entire reason the Leafs even got dragged into this thread/topic is because NJ Devils posters are calling the Leafs a flawed team that Keefe couldn't fix but somehow the Devils are not despite having the same lack of success.

I agree . Devils need a better bottom 6 to get out of the East . They won’t get past Caps / Canes / Bolts / with what they currently have. They need a Gourde or Granlund or two
