Not if McDavid said not to match.I can excuse broberg but that Holloway contract should have been an instant match. I know it’s beating a dead horse but god that grinded my gears

If McDavid truly said that and they followed his advice then this team has deeper problems than we know. Not if McDavid said not to match.
Well not really. Knob was a McDavid hire. He saved our season last year.If McDavid truly said that and they followed his advice then this team has deeper problems than we know.
I don't care how good McDavid is, he shouldn't be influencing decisions at a managerial level, nor should they make moves based on him (such as hiring his former agent).Well not really. Knob was a McDavid hire. He saved our season last year.
The biggest name in the league has some kind of influence on the make up of a team. It's nothing new. Happens in every league and usually that team does good. If McDavid truly said don't sign Holloway that's a really bad look.
But he shouldn't. As much as I wouldn't trust our front office as far as I could throw them, he still doesn't have as much insight as we'd like him to. There's no reasonable explanation for him to say "Yeah don't sign Holloway, go get some crappy castoff wingers instead".The biggest name in the league has some kind of influence on the make up of a team. Or maybe Stan asked for his opinion. He's the captain. And while everyone took discounts, Holloway put himself before the team and waited for an offersheet. Teamed up with Broberg to screw the Oilers over. If I was captain, I want none of them back in the lockerroom. But he shouldn't. McDavid ensures we're always at bare minimum a playoff team, but I'm not convinced the front office is any better now than it was a decade ago because they still keep making the same mistakes.I would probably say a time during the period we refer to as the "decade of darkness" where the organization was record-setting incompetent for years on end
This team has to "turn things around" only slightly to win the division still.
Don't get me wrong, team is flawed, moves didn't really seem to work, need a goalie, but this is hyperbolic.
Players will almost always do what's in their best interests. A huge raise, more playing/growth opportunity, a quiet city to live in? What's not to like? We need to stop putting players on a pedestal like they aren't at least a little selfish. But seeing as we're talking about it, wonder how McDavid feels about the possibility of Kane screwing over the team's TDL plans? You want to talk selfish... Not everyone is as greasy as Stone. Players want to play. I don't agree with you all the time, but I certainly do here. If Connor McDavid is dictating the moves that our GM is making, that's not a good thing. It's important to keep him happy of course, and to listen when he has concerns, and even to respond to help with those concerns, but if something as little as signing an offer sheet is enough to get someone blackballed by McDavid, then its not good. I don't really want to believe that this happened though, I hope it was a decision made by management. It was a mistake either way, but at least if it was purely a management decision, we know our star players aren't making decisions outside of their area of expertise as well.If McDavid truly said that and they followed his advice then this team has deeper problems than we know.
I don't think for a second McDavid said that, but if it's true... Yeah.I don't agree with you all the time, but I certainly do here. We're long past the point of caring about being boy scouts. The goal is to win. Kane playing basically ensures we finish behind Vegas as we can't make any meaningful additions to the team. And if we finish behind Vegas... Just see 2023 for how that turned out.Not everyone is as greasy as Stone. Players want to play. Kane happens to want to play and play for the Oilers
Kane playing isn't a bad thing. He was really the only positive at the beginning of last season. And if he happens to be as good as ever, that's exactly the player we need and get back in game shape before the playoffsI don't think for a second McDavid said that, but if it's true... Yeah.

Agreed. I hope this team has figured out from this offseason, that change for the sake of change can be detrimental. I don't trust them to target the right players either.Kane playing isn't a bad thing. He was really the only positive at the beginning last season. And if he happens to be as good as ever, that's exactly the player we neneed.
If he prevents meaningful roster upgrades then yes it's a bad thing, especially since he hasn't played hockey in about a year after multiple injuries.Kane playing isn't a bad thing. 4th liners and bottom pairing D from the rumours out there is not meaningful upgrades. Better off playing Kane and keeping our assets. If he prevents meaningful roster upgrades then yes it's a bad thing, especially since he hasn't played hockey in about a year after multiple injuries.
We really should temper our expectations about his effectiveness.
Then I assume you're okay with going into the playoffs with the current goaltending tandem?4th liners and bottom pairing D from the rumours out there is not meaningful upgrades. Better off playing Kane and keeping our assets.
Well Oilers can play Kane and still trade Stuart+Kapanen++ for Gibson 50%Then I assume you're okay with going into the playoffs with the current goaltending tandem?
