I don't think that should have ever been a worry. I believe it comes down to a simple binary question for the players: do you enjoy playing hockey?
Exactly, and except for a few people I don't think it was.

Players are the employees, it's not very common and not a general concern that a broker will call his clients and say we're not investing in company A the employees don't feel like trying. It's far more common to say we need to sell while value is high because of a reported flaw in the product or the way the product was marketed.

The hockey is very good but, I would still prefer if NA and Europe would be replace by real countries. To me this is not a real "World Cup" it's more like an NHL All-Star tournament.

It's good hockey but... the 2 gimmick teams make it hard for me to take seriously. NA and Europe are fun to watch but... bottom line... they shouldn't be in the tournament.

Good hockey tho. Just an awful concept.

I've watched both NA games and pretty much nothing else. They are fun to watch but I really don't care who wins at all. I'm Canadian and in my opinion... it's kind of a joke. A huge cash grab and not really a world cup... it's more like a small part of the world plus 2 continents cup.

Seems to me that people judge the legitimacy of the tournament on how well the articfical teams do. Either you think its fine to have it like this on before hand or you dont like the format at all. You have to be comfortable with both the thought that for example team Europe would be a punching bang, as well as a possible winner of the whole thing. Yay for team Europe! Best hockey nations in the World!

But I dont know. After all the NHL, the World Championship etc etc, is just entertainment at the end of the day. If people are entertained, then evertything is as it should be?

That being said, Im am impressed of the gimmick teams, they are clearly not here to be rolled over!

Winning the World Cup Championship is ON PAR with winning Olympic Gold. Regardless of the format that some people can't bring themselves to get past.

Winning world cup is on par with winning the Karjala cup.

This tourney is a disaster comparing to 1996 and 2004 world cups.

Get Rid of the youth team. Even if they win, it's a silly concept.

Team Europe actually turns out to be a brilliant idea.

So do a 7 team tournament with a round robin system in the first round.

Top 4 advance to semis.

The tournament's been fantastic so far. Much better than what we saw in Sochi. The stands have been mostly full with fans from all over the hockey world. The emotions have been there. The predictions of this being a flop that nobody will care about have been shattered. I hope the World Cup continues but I hope the NHL stays at the Olympics too. More international hockey is better than less.

Why have you change your mind? because the joke team plays good? Why would that change anything to the better? Make no sense at all. You can make up all star team that can win this torunament, but do that make it better? Why have any real team at all, just have all star teams if playing good/fun hockey is all that matters. If anything it makes it a lot worse. The more successfull they are the bigger of a travisty it is, imagine a none national team win a so call international tournament. It would be much better if they would suck and then not be in the way of the real teams and can be more easily forgotten, the better they are the bigger the travisty it is.

My mind has not change, it is a symbol of what is wrong with hockey. So much corruption and no organize serious international stage.

Have the stands really been full though? I had the impression that there were seats empty even in Canada's game. Also watching the games there seems to have open seats.

Anyone have broadcasting viewer count for Olympics and for this tournament?

I did say mostly full. They sold a lot of these tickets in packages so people often don't go to every game. Scalpers buy tickets and don't sell them all. I see way more empty seats at the world championships every year.

There's no question the Olympic ratings would blow the World Cup out of the water.

The stands have been empty except for CAN games. The "attendance" in the box score says 18000, when the glass has 20% fill rate and the upper bowl is empty.

Here is Europe versus Czech. Attendance 8000.

Freezeframe 1:33. Literally 10% of the seats are filled, 6:30 left in 2nd period.

I've been pro-tournament all the time. Not taking it too seriously, it is just fun to see high level hockey before the season starts. But I got legit angry after Finlands piss poor play. It is the only game I didn't watch to the end lol

Still just friendly tournament. Teams (players) are playing to win it, matches are good, but one day after the final they will forget about this tournament...

Or is anybody expect street parade for winning team?

It is certainly not as prestigious as the olympics.

However the teams still have their best team possible (exception for some coaches which left some out). For sure it will show which country that for the moment is the best. I do not buy that players don't do their best for the tourney. WJC shows the best youngsters - still it is quite interesting to see the best team all categories.

As a sidenote the fact that the final is bo3 will also help establishing which team that actually is the best - as one lucky game won't be enough.

the U23 and Euro team is a bit meh though and feels real strange which destroys alot for the tourneys prestige. Fun to watch for sure. Rather have round robin 6 teams or invite 2 other nations. As have been said make the WC a qualifying tournament. No matter what a cooperation between the two will be hugely beneficial for both tournaments atleast thats my belief.

I haven't made an argument. I'm just asking you to explain your position. Which you apparently find difficult or impossible. :)

No, what you are doing is the exact definition of a strawman argument and I have no intention or desire of engaging in a discussion who is purposely being obtuse.

My biggest worry was that the players would half-ass it because it's an exhibition tournament before the start of the regular season, but that hasn't been the case at all. They're playing with almost more intensity than a regular season game.

This shouldn't replace the Olympics at all but it's still fun to watch. If they're gonna do this...they should just do it every year.

I really don't care if players on the Blues have a chance to be injured. They have just as much of a chance being injured playing their first regular season game, so **** it.

As a fan of the sport of hockey, it's been great to watch. That North America vs Russia game was especially fun to watch.

The hockey itself is good. But with rookie tournaments and training camp around the corner, this wasn't needed for me personally. Then you factor in the injury risk and how players not in training camp with their team will affect line chemistry and such to start the season.

Training camp is mostly for guys fighting for the bottom spots anyways.

I wasn't expecting this level of intensity right away. I thought it would take a few games for this tourney to get going but it's been great hockey right from the start. The best of 3 final will be DYNAMITE.

As long as this doesn't replace the Olympics, I think it's perfectly fine.
