If they name a C wouldn't that leave an A hole?

My position on this whole issue is similar to the scratching of Dano. I don't care. It is not important at this point in either case.

You think this is true? A while ago, I saw Portzline tweet that some Columbus players are getting/kind of already annoyed with not having a Captain. Can't remember why. Maybe them wanting 1 guy leading the way(speaking up in the locker room) rather then taking turns.

There are a few worthy candidates.

True, but Dubinsky is the best Candidate. Foligno is obviously a great choice but he doesn't even have an A so I kind of have to wonder if the coaching staff feels he isn't vocal enough in the locker room or something like that.

I remember seeing Dubi helping foligno practice faceoffs when he moved to C earlier in the year. The fact that Dubi is the last guy to leave the ice after games is very telling. It's not like he's just standing out there waiting for everyone to go in, he stands by the bench/tunnel and pats the guys on the back and says a little something to all the guys as they're coming off the ice. It's also no surprise that the team's record has gotten a lot better after Dubinsky came back to the line up. He's 5th on the team in goals despite playing only half the season, he's second in +/- only to Foligno, and he's obviously the guy who gets matched up against other teams top lines (crosby). Obviously we don't expect him to put up Johansen type numbers, but he's a solid 50+ point guy in a healthy season and he does it while being dealt the task of playing a great two way game and trying to shut down the other team's top guys. Add that to the earlier leadership qualities I listed and he seems like a no brainer IMO.

Boller had an A, it really doesn't mean anything. The team had a set of A's and no C and decided not to change anything, not because it liked the formal leadership structure that the A's implied, but because the actual leadership structure was functioning just fine. Nick Foligno is a big part of the actual leadership structure.

I don't care who we think it the "best" candidate. There are a few that we could go with, just do it already.

Where is this anxiety coming from? It looks to me like you're trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist.

Who said I'm trying to "fix" anything? I didn't care before, but we haven't had one in a couple of years. It's moved from careful to just silly. This isn't a earth changing decision and we have good candidates. I'm more tired of hearing about it than anything.

Especially now that they have lost leadership is definitely needed. :sarcasm:

My C vote goes to Boone. ( of course, "together we overcome" but nothing happened before Boone return).

IMO outside of Bob, no other player has a greater impact on the Jackets than Boone.
When he came back is when this team started to turn it around.

Nothing wrong with the lists I have seen so far, but Boone gets my vote.

The voices are pretty evenly split. And that says a lot. Nonetheless, the Team needs a captain.
There are no Stanley cup winners w/o captain, correct me if i'm wrong.
And, hey, I'm not sayin' columbus will be among the teams battling for the Cup next season, but....
Screw it. I am saying that. Columbus names a cap, wins the Cup, everyone happy, a good script for the underdog hockey team movie is born.

To me it comes down to who is the future captain? There have been rumors (which make the most sense) that Boone was the guy they were/are waiting for to give the "C" to. If that is the case it makes a little sense as to what they are doing - rather than giving it to a vet and making a change at some point.
I thought for sure when they got JJ he would be the captain, and it seems like Dubi would make the most sense.
So my bet is at some point in time that Boone gets the "C". No idea if that is a year or two away, maybe never? But if I had a guess in 3 years (2018-19 season) he'll be the guy with the "C", but no idea if there will be a place holder in between.

Second that.
I previously wrote about Foligno=C suggestion, but scratch that, Dubi seems more of a leader.
I wonder, is it common knowledge about who's the most vocal in the locker room?

Sorry you don't get to scratch that. Name a C, you're stuck with him whether he's leading the team the right way or not. Take note of the number of different players the fans have discarded as their pick for captain. Wasn't that long ago Umberger was the guy. The best you can do is name a guy who is a consistent leader, who will be around. That points to Jenner in my mind. Or don't name a captain, our leadership core is working just fine for us as is, without the disruption of artificially elevating one of them over the rest.

Well, yeah, you are absolutely right. By "scratch that" I meant that I didn't choose the perfect candidate (nothing wrong with Foligno, though :) ), not that captains should be changed on a whim.
