Has Gerard Gallant done his homework?

The powerplay for the caps works so well because they utilize the bumper position to it's fullest potential. You can't just cover Ovi, because that's not actually the most dangerous shot. The biggest threat comes from the bumper and if you don't play it right, it's a point blank shot.

Rangers utilize Kreider in front of the net, which is fine, but if Zibanejad is going to attempt to play that bumper position, then Kreider has to move away from the front of the net and back off to the side to be open for passes coming down low, that means Strome needs to back his butt up closer to the boards for Kreider to have an outlet for when Zibanejad isn't open, otherwise possession is lost on a turnover. With Kreider and Zibby right next to each other, you basically have 1 player easily covering 2 NYR players. Kreider needs to play a position that goes back and forth to the front of the net depending on where the play is at.

First line isn't working. Last night Gallant said he doesn't like to change it up but the changes "worked". If he continues to roll the first and second line, they better find a way to produce and carry play or this is going to be tough to watch 2-25 games in.
AND you have our 3 extreme perimeter players acting like QB's on the boards/blueline. It's too easy to defend. The patented move is the shot-pass for a redirect. Our PP needs to be more than just that. I feel like there's so much untapped potential

Ask this in December.

A change I think that needs to happen is Strome off PP1. It keeps everything on the perimeter and eliminates the threat of a shot from the circle. I know he hasn’t been great the first 2 games, but I feel like Laf should be in that spot.
Kakko is the guy. Laf, for whatever reason, is not comfortable there.

A LHS that can one time, with decent playmaking skills, needs to be on the right dot

Wait, we didn't win the cup after one game?

Fire Gallant
POST OF THE YEAR !!! including the remainder of the year as I cannot imagine a post surpassing this one. Someone else said this thread is embarrassing but I think ridiculous is more like it. 1 ****ing game !!!

Did you ever have a new boss come in and try to change everything in your department on Day 1?

You probably resisted: "I've been doing this job for 10 years. WTF does this new boss know?"

Torts is probably that kind of boss. That style is effective, at a cost.

Gallant has a different approach. He's planting seeds. He's winning trust. Gallant *will* make his changes, once he knows he has the whole room on board.

It's already visible on the ice that the transformation is in progress. The players are backing each other up. They seem closer than last year, not just what they say but in how they act.

Gallant's seeds will take time. His track record gives me faith. As impatient as I am for the final product, I'll focus on the process for now.

This stuff always happens. When Michel Bergeron came here in 1987, he made Jan Erixon a healthy scratch. Nobody could figure out why. Bergeron admitted he didn't think Erixon was a good player until he got to know him better. When Mike Keenan got here in 1993, the Rangers lost back to back games to expansion teams. Anaheim at home. TB on the road. That was TB's second season. The Rangers looked terrible in the Tampa game. What's going to happen with this team? When AV was the coach in 2013, the team was terrible in October. The San Jose debacle was rock bottom. Marty Biron retired after the game. It's a long season.
Turk has a great record after Thanksgiving.

We were 14/101 against PIT, BOS, WAS, NYI 13.7% on the PP
We were 23/78 against NJ, PHI, BUF 29.4% on the PP

compared to Tampa who was 24/101 against CAR, FLA, NSH, DAL 23.7%

THIS is what I am talking about. This discrepancy. I'm not talking about adding both of those together. I'm talking about 13.7% against contending teams. Is that good enough? I do not think so and this is the problem that has been hammered for a year. I understand a dip in production but this is beyond that.

This is why 'overall average PP stats' don't remedy my concerns. There's a major deviance. Being 'top 5 since 2019' means little in context.... or when it matters.
I'm lazy, how'd we do 1st half of the season vs 2nd half?
