Has Connor Bedard quietly became underrated ?

The kid is already close to a ppg player on an offensively inept team. He's doing just fine and imo is going to be atleast 90 point offensive player in this league.

Chicago is going to need to surround him with the right pieces but they have a couple intriguing young players/prospects and will get another this summer.

That's saying on a better team he would have roughly 30 more assists right now. You realize that puts him at the top of the leaderboard in points leaders with McKinnon, draisaitl and kucherov right? That's hyperbole and nothing more
Actually, not hyperbolic. Though I could have stated it better, the meaning was clear. Currently he has 68 assists in 116 games, for 48 per 82 games. If anything, I’ve underestimated his eventual assists ceiling.

90 point offensive player is a huge disappointment for Bedard projection

This is getting so silly with the expectations. Like do you realize the standards you’re setting here? For instance Patrick Kane(who many seem to think is a good comparable when you talk about eventual peak and career) is in his 17th season I believe and he’s put up 90 pts a grand total of THREE times.

He’s gonna be an incredible player, even if he’s not the next McDavid/Crosby.

Bedard will have a better gauge against other team top scorers when the hawks aren’t the lowest scoring supporting cast in league. Really not sure the difficulty.

Doesn’t Donato have more goals than him right now though?

90 pts today is not the same as 90 pts throughout Kane’s career. That would be approximately what many people had him scoring in his rookie season.

Big difference in scoring levels, plus Kane played through some shortened years in his prime and had a couple injuries. Kane was top 5 in scoring 5 times and top 10 in scoring 7 times. 90 points last year was 16th in scoring.

For reference, Rantanen and Marner have averaged 101 points per 82 the last 7 years. I think the expectation of Bedard to be better than them isn’t outrageous

How he is still not held accountable for his OUTRAGEOUSLY bad defensive game is absolutely ridiculous.
He's 19 and playing good defense is meaningless for his team right now.....I suspect it will come in time as it does for most players....but not all.

The same way Chris Tanev isn't held accountable for his OUTRAGEOUSLY bad offensive game, different players do different things.

As someone else said, give him time to mature and gain a more mature frame.

He has learned some bad habits throughout his career. Being so dominant offensively.
He is going to end up like Panarin with zero effort defensively yet producing points at a high level.
Only problem is that he is supposed to be a center, they rarely get a total pass when it comes to defending.

Panarin came into the league at like 23 Bedard is 19 right now....that's such a ridiculous comparison Eichel was a whiner at 18 and 19 and didn't even bother to rush back to play defense if something bothered him. A lot of centers get much better defensively than they were at 18 and 19.

Lets hope so. Watched him play some and seems an attitude problem mainly. I am sure he could get better at defending if he puts in the work.
Lets hope Chicago dont ruin his development.

Anyway I'm sure he's impressed that they shipped out the only other high end player on the team for a 3rd round pick
They traded Vlasic for a 3rd? When did that happen? I knew that way-over-the-crest-of-the-hill Taylor Hall had been ditched for nothing, understandably-- the 3rd that they got in that deal was for the retention on Rantanen-- but hadn't heard about that dreadful Vlasic trade.

The difference is that Eichel had the size and elite physical tools to develop into an elite 200 foot player.

How many small, weak, meh skating centers are able to play both ends at even an average level?

To be fair, Rantanen and Marner have played in pretty much best possible situations to maximise their production. Marner, a playmaker, has spent the majority of his minutes with a generational goaalscorer, and has several other elite players; Rantanen is paired with an all-time scoring center and an all-time defenceman, and gets an extraordinary amount of ice Time, especially on the PP.

There's ~5 forwards in the game that could average more than 100pts/82 in current Chicago.

For sure. I wasn’t trying to suggest they would score as much in the same situation currently. Just that if Bedard only becomes a ~90 point player pace in his prime as Chicago gets better support, it would be fairly disappointing.
