Who? Constantly people had them on a near same level. I am constantly baffled at what some seemed to think was the main consensus view of that draft.

That's why so many teams have been mocked for passing on Michkov
they weren't on the same level regarding the hype. bedard was always on his own god-tier level. then it was a draw between fantili and carlson. michkov was regarded as a tier below them. taking simashev and reinbacher over him was simply moronic, though.

It's year 2 in the NHL, why are you still talking about juniors? He has to do it in the NHL as well for any McDavid or Crosby comparisons to make sense.
Wat?

I was told Bedard was a clutch playoff performer in the NHL based off what he did in juniors.

The fact he hasn't been in the playoffs in the nhl is irrelevant, too.....

Hence why he’s not a generational talent. Right now he’s looking more like a bust like Alexandre Daigle than a game changing superstar.
I wouldn't go that far.

Daigle had the talent he just didn't want to play up to it. Hockey was beneath him after he went first.

Bedard on the other hand wants to play and we hear the stories of how they have to drag him off the ice and all that drivel.

He just isn't generational good. I mean, if he's been downgraded to a Point type, that's not a generational talent. Good, but nothing once in the lifetime....

This. When I insisted Michkov was on par (or close) to Bedard, I was ridiculed and laughed at... even though head-to-head in the same tournament Michkov outclassed him. There was a Russian bias at play and Michkov was out of sight out of mind for most. Not to mention a large portion of the hockey media turned on him and fabricated rumors about his work ethic and him not being a good teammate.

Michkov wasn't considered a tier below Fantilli and Carlsson. His contractual situation was a question mark, but on talent he was the most frequent pick for #2 and some scouts thought that it was close between him and Bedard.

Hes been very quiet this year. I dont think "underrated" is the word. Maybe over-hyped?

Obviously tons of time still to turn it around or give it a couple more years until he has talent to work with.

Bedard was hyped to the heavens. If it had been close between him and Michkov, Michkov would have been drafted second overall. It was the consensus that Fantili and Carlson are a tier above Michkov.

When was this hype. Like the op here brings up silly young ype points. Their draft year, all year i thought the rational evaluation of Bedard was. Best since Mcdavid, but with lack of speed or size/style like Crosby, he isn't that tier. That draft year Michkov was showing he can play in the KHL, there was no big drop talentwise.

To say he was seen as godtier or anything is bizarre to me because any serious evaluator kept saying, Bedard won't be on that level... I dont know who had this hype status

His defensive zone and neutral zone play have been great this year. He created a ton of high danger chances early in the year and they didn’t go in.

The last two weeks though have been really bad offensively.

Bedard hasn’t been good enough this year. Very disappointing season so far. He’s still VERY young but I’m starting to question his ceiling.

Teams swarm Bedard when he has the puck. I'm not sure if they are scared he can do something special or they know he will cough it up when pressured. My guess : They initially swarmed him because of the former but were pleasantly surprised by the latter.

The kid needs a break. A BIG game with a bunch of points. If not that, a night or two watching from the press box might help. Having said that, who's on his flippin line? They aren't helping. Still, he was just AWFUL tonight.

Unlike you, I'm not worried about his ceiling. I just don't think he's faced adversity in his career until now and facing adversity for the first time while playing in the NHL is not optimal.

I still find it funny how Michkov was considered to be at the same level as Bedard but became inferior after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Good Lord. :thumbd:

Nonsense. Hes 5'10 185 compard to Crosby who's 5'11 200. He needs to bulk up sure but that's it. He'll be fine once he does so.

Michkov has more talent on his team.
If he’s listed at 5’10 185 that means he’s about 5’8 1/2 in real life

Do you not see how some teams let him play and give him more space than others?

Its like watching some no contact fund raiser charity game.

If teams started playing him like they do any other player he wouldn't last
You’re saying some teams are taking it easy on him?

Getting concerned, Hawks are gonna ruin this kid. He's actually regressing massively from his rookie year, pacing for 14 goals 59 points now. Get him a decent linemate ASAP, even if you have to trade a prospect or two. The rebuild is worthless if you destroy your crown jewel. There's a reason why teams preach that you have to insulate your young star as much as possible.

About a third of HFBoards.
Half was sure he would have five or more 50 goal seasons.
That draft year Michkov was showing he can play in the KHL, there was no big drop talentwise.
Well, most people thought it was. No one cares how many goals Michkov scored against Chinese goalies in the KHL. Even right before the start of this season the poll for who will score the most points has been closed as lopsided. Last year Bedard would have won by an even greater margin.

Just goes to show what everyone and their grandmothers said prior to the lottery of that year: everyone but the goddamn shitshow Hawks.

I've only watched a few of his games so far this year, so this is probably incomplete but....he's having a hard time skating his way out of trouble so far this season. I think that's his main issue (along with having teenager strength). Part of that is teams knowing he's the only guy worth covering in Chicago, but not all of it.

Okay,, he's struggling right now (as is his crappy team), but a little perspective: He's 19, and after the worst stretch of his short career is still pacing for 59 points. Any 19-year-old getting 59 points is, like, quite good.

-- Draisaitl didn't score 59 points until his third season
-- Jack Hughes paced for 45 points at age 19
-- MacKinnon paced for 48 points at age 19

Let's wait until the kid starts shaving and can buy booze in Chicago before we write him off as some sort of a failure...

With him sucking there is a good chance they will pick high again, and this time there is a hope their management won't be high and pick a right kid... Still him and Demidov could have been nasty together next year...
