Prospect Info: Hartford Wolf Pack/Bloomington Bison Thread: Part XV

Yeah it's his first professional season. Nothing wrong with playing in the AHL during your first professional season. And he got a taste of the NHL to boot.

Maybe Miller would be in a better place had he spent some time developing in the AHL.
Same with Kakko and Lafy right. The Rangers rushed them too. That's all they're known for sadly

Anyway for first year Pack players---Chmelar, Roobroeck, McConnell-Barker and Mancini are all doing well and IMO have successfully made the jump into the pros and all have a shot to one day become NHL players. To have 4 guys to make that jump in one year is pretty damn good for any team any particular season and last year it was Othmann, Berard, Sykora and to lesser degree Korczak.
Nice to see the kids making progress. Looks like the Pack record is pretty mediocre though. Any thoughts on what’s holding them back? Goaltending looks solid, is it the defense?

Domingue hasn't been great. In 14 games, he has given up 51 goals.

Nash has yet to play this year. Othmann has only played 9 games this year due to injury. Berard was called up and has only played 16 of 33 games for Hartford. Mancini starting in NY hurt them on the backend a bit.

They aren't the strongest team on paper and the volatility of injuries and callups has hurt them. They are also a pretty young team. Sykora is still one of the youngest players in the league. Barker, Chmelar, Roobroeck and Mancini are all rookies. I'm hoping to see Barker produce more in the 2nd half, but the other young players have stepped up of late.

As long as they finish top 6 in their division, they will make the playoffs. Bridgeport is terrible and pretty much already out of the playoff picture, so they just need to stay ahead of Springfield. And as we've seen the last two years, when Garand is on his game, this team is capable of winning in the playoffs against higher seeded teams.

I think he's likely to be a next year player. He's still very young

Hartford tied 2-2 in the 2nd

Belzile from Sucese and Sykora
Sykora from Chmelar and Fitzgerald

Anyone get the sense that Chmelar is figuring out this league?
Both Sykora and Chmelar.

Again it seems the Rangers will have a nice in-flow of bottom-6 forwards in the next few years. Good job by finding talent beyond 1st round by Drury’s amateur scouting. Let’s see if his pro scouting can do the same in the next 6-8 months

We will never know but I personally I doubt it would’ve made a difference. Miller has all the tools but he lacks focus to make the right decisions all the time. Don’t think it would be different if he spent time in the AHL. Case in point (in pretty extreme way) is Hajek who spent a lot of time in Hartford but still couldn’t find the right toolbox for his tools.

I think Miller 100% would’ve benefitted from some time in Hartford. He needed more time to learn how to play defense and skipping a level in difficulty wasn’t the way to do it.

Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. My statement was more to make a point that pushing guys into the NHL as soon as you can isn't always the best route. You're right that it may not have made a difference for him.

yup the bottom 6 pieces will be there. Sykora Chmelar Roobroeck Laba, and potentially BMB and Lamb, to go with Edstrom. Berard and Othmann more middle 6 to go with Cuylle.

now i just wish we had some 2nds and 3rds to try and draft some impact players..

It's also Hartford Hockey alumni night as this is the 50th anniversary of when the Whalers came to be. They got a pretty sucky group of alum.
