It’s also amazing that he doesn’t have some more points by accident. He’s playing every night with the wolf pack’s best player in Fogarty who is putting up points almost every night.

so grateful that the Rangers selected Steven Fogarty over players like JG Pageau, Blake Coleman, Johnny Gaudreau. awful scouting, couldn't even get an NHL player in the 3rd round. but a AHL star, awful pick. should have been a 6th round pick :thumbu::sarcasm::naughty:

I don’t know what to tell you guys. If you get a chance to watch the games you’re going to come away concerned. This is the AHL his third year in North America. Shouldn’t be non existent out there. He looks pretty much like he does in the NHL only here he’s getting top mins and the players around him are scoring and are involved.

as far as Keane. Very solid. Nothing spectacular plenty of secondary assists (although leads the A in primary points by a rookie dman) but for his age he just rarely makes bad plays. Very impressive season for him. Not sure what the upside really is but solid prospect. Not sure he’s as close to nhl ready as some others believe. I’d let him keep developing for the year. Maybe a cup of coffee later if there’s an injury.

Rykov is the guy that although he’s not in game shape looks as polished as id hoped. He should be in the nhl. He’s more polished than both Hajek and Lindgren imo.

Kravtsov will play tomorrow so that’s exciting. Going to take him some time to build back up I’m sure but if he’s bought in now and he should be considering the grass wasn’t greener or at all back in Siberia, then he should be determined to play well. Has a few buddies on the team in Rykov and Shesterkin that he spent all summer with. He just needs to find himself. Playing on a good team it should be a big difference.

This is perhaps the aspect of his return that has me the most encouraged. The entire team was trying to figure it out when he left. Now, in his absence, they have. He should be returning to a much more positive environment.

I hope people don't rag on the kid if he has a bad game. I'm almost expecting this next stretch of games to be brutal before he gains his footing again, and as long as he stays committed to getting better, we should see a much improved Kravtsov in 2020.

I've watched parts of most the HWP games. A few thoughts.

1 - Someone brought up the idea of moving Lias to the Wing. I think that might be a good idea at some point. He plays a fairly responsible game (if uneventful). I feel like putting him on the wing and telling him he needs to be first man in on the forecheck might force him into a more straight line approach. He's not a bad passer, is not a terrible stickhandler, but his lack of separation speed (even at times in the A) and confidence is preventing him from being a better facilitator or more dangerous in general. In some ways, he's the exact opposite of Chytil. Chytil will hold the puck and try to skate around, bull rush players, sometimes at the expense of facilitating. Lias, perhaps because of foot speed, perhaps because of being rushed to the NHL too soon, tries to move the puck as quickly as possible. This is why playing for a long while in the A is appropriate for his development. He needs to find a better balance to his offensive approach. And it's all about finding time and space and confidence. Sadly (or maybe better for him) I think Lias will get moved because his development curve feels like it's better served by playing in the A for another season and a half. Once he develops into full man strength and continues to work on his foot speed, there will likely be a role for him. But I don't it's any time soon. And it's unclear if he'll stay in NA long enough to carve it a bottom six spot.

2 - Rykov. He shows flashes of good vision. He's a big body. He's good at using it to shield the puck. He's also good at defending. Where he seems to struggle is he occasionally gets caught mis-reading a play or is flat footed. He's a decent skater, he's got interesting agility, but he is not fast enough to recover once he loses the puck at the blue line. He's kinda like Staal in that regard. This is either rust or just something a part of the game he will have to minimize. He's also pretty sharp with his passing, but I have seen him make some bad turnovers on outlet passes. I think he will be an NHL player, but he's going to need to play a safer game. I honestly think if the Rangers played a more defensively tight system he would thrive. The system they play right now may expose Rykov's weaknesses more than on say, the Kings.

3 - Fogarty is really peaking.

4 - with the addition of Kravtsov, the Wolf Pack will finally have a decent pool of legit prospects playing down there. Kravtsov, Andersson, Rykov, Keane, Shesterkin, Huska and to a lesser extent Gettinger and Jones.

5 - Finally, as for Keane, the thing that separates him from a guy like John Gilmour is that he manages to create offense without being a defensive liability. He plays a smart game, not overly physical and does fairly well at separating players from the puck. In some ways, he sorta reminds me of Kevin Lowe.

yeah I don’t expect him to be too involved over these next couple games. It’s going to take some time. What I’m happy about is that he’s back and what this whole mess happened within 45 days or so. So he knows now what’s best for him. He’s here and hopefully he’s ready to buy in. There is a spot avail for him with the big club if he wants it. We’re a better team with Fast on the 4th line. We’re a better team with Howden as the 4C so there’s room in the top 9 for Kravtsov if he proves he’s ready. So he needs to put his head down and realize he can be a couple months away from the NHL And he’s the only one in the way of that.

the ELC forward depth goes off a cliff after Krav, Lias, Getts
Jones being the most effective of the rookie F's, while not on NYR ELC, is bad news,
as is the shallowness of the young pro F pool, especially with few (maybe Barron or Henriksson?) due to join HWP next season.
Need some from Newell, Gropp, Elmer, Ronning to step up
(not expecting much from Leedahl - is he hurt in Maine? - or injured Fontaine;
aside from Jones, also not expecting much from the other AHL-signed F's until they impress...)

Most AHL teams only have a couple actual nhl prospects like a Rykov Keane Andersson Kravtsov Shesterkin. I’d say most don’t have even that many.

Lot of guys like Fogarty Ebert and Lettieri fill out these teams.

i know, trying not to be unrealistic,
but 7 guys on ELCs (that # includes Meskanen) all shooting blanks at AHL level for 2 months undermines some rebuild optimism,
but yeah, gotta remind myself, all but Gropp were longshots from the start (very late picks or undrafted) ...
even Newell and Elmer, their great breakout seasons last year were unexpected, shouldn't expect that to to translate immediately (and Elmer has turned it on lately in Maine)

Elmer likely has to do that without facing Adirondack, which is why he's on right now.....

And I wish I still had hair. : )

You know how it goes - he gets on a stat sheet in one game - he'll get praised, if he won't - he'll get ripped to shreds.

I will actually wait for reports over a period of time from @Kovalev27 and a few other posters I trust to see how he's progressing away from the puck. I don't have concerns about his offensive abilities.

ive liked Elmer too I find it strange he’s not an ahler at this point. Probably going to be even tougher for him now with Kravtsov here.

Jones has come on recently. Good to see another kid a lot of us liked this summer
