Not really happy if Sutter is actually signed. I hope I'm wrong.

I root for my team. If Sutter is the man. I root for him.

If the team buys in then it can be an exciting brand of defensive hockey.

GO KINGS!!

Hi duc.

You hit the nail on the head really. Daryl has to have learned from his time behind the bench and in the front office about what did and didn't work and I am hoping he brings a slightly different attitude with him to the team.

Not the person I wanted to see us hire but if he is hired and can produce good results then all will be fine.

Either way if he is our coach then I will root for him for the rest of the season or until I see him go drastically in the wrong direction.

Both of these coaches (TM and DS) employ a tried and true brand of hockey that is a stalwart of hockey strategy. The difference between them and great coaches is that they employ these strategies as part of a system and not as the foundation of it.

It is kind of funny that they traded an easy teacher in for a strict drill master teaching the same material, the players have got to be looking in the mirror about now, tough times ahead.

The players got what they wanted. Murray is gone. I won't shed a tear for them if they keep half assing it.

More and more I think about it, I'm really liking the hiring!

Likewise.

It was one of those things like a good beer...it can hit you a little bitter at first but the finish just grows on you more and more.

Maybe this team will learn to play for 60 minutes.

This is my biggest fear with Sutter....everyone else I think will handle it cause they are professionals...

But the attitude of Doughty...I don't see it meshing very well with Sutter.

Think about the kinds of players that were in Calgary. No one was a primadonna. No one ran that locker room but Sutter.

San Jose imploded cause they had Primadonnas. If Doughty buys in this will be great for his professional attitude. If not...well....:help:

If Doughty needs or thinks he deserves any kind of special treatment to "buy in" then this franchise will never win anything with him here.

Does he use the trap-system?

Every NHL team seems to be doing the same thing. Score first or get a lead, then clog up the Middle of the ice.

Or stack four across your blue-line, one Fore-checker. It's like a broken record in the NHL lately.

Flames have a thread about this on their boards. It's interesting what some have to say.

Summary:

Not an offensive coach, i'd say about 15% of the posters just straight up said no he sucks...while others said he is a good defense first coach, and the Kings will be in a good position since we have way better personnel to fit his system then Cal ever did.

I like how the one guy called Mike Richards a Sutter wet dream.

Yeah, our offense remains to be seen but I think we'll definitely see more consistent effort and players will be held accountable.

He's hard-nosed, straight forward and full of fire.

I think our players would actually welcome the change.

Is it sad I am already thinking trade scenarios?

I know I know....I need to give Drew a chance...seriously a good chance, he is still young and very talented.

Kid has just lost so much respect with his off ice garbage..and some of his on ice **** as well (whining, crying, diving.)

Yea then you get guys like Boucher running a 1-3-1 with no forecheck and all the members of the old boys club freak out and boycott it.

Sutter is going to make or break Drew. I am so looking forward to this scenario. We will finally get to see what Drew is made of.

No more Drama Queen Drew.

Hey guys, Canucks fan here. I think the Kings are a really talented team and I was happy for you when I heard Murray got fired, in my mind he was really holding the team back.

But then I saw Lombardi is interested in Sutter? WHY!?!? He's the last coach the Kings need. I got to see plenty of him with Van playing Calgary six times a year, and I just really don't think he'd be a good fit for the Kings. I have a feeling with all the star power on the Kings they'll butt heads with stubborn Sutter.

But who knows, maybe everything will work out great. Wish you guys the best of luck with whoever the new coach turns out to be. Cheers.

I know it's comical, Tampa was not really doing anything Different.

Every NHL team is running a Boring system after they get a lead.

Yea...again..you look at that locker room in Calgary...not a whole lot of attitudes. I mean Iginla...one of the nicest and most hard working players in the league really.

03-04 playoff roster for the flames....Iginla, Regehr, Conroy, Leopold, Commodore, Lydman, Chris Clark, Shean Donovan, Kobasew, Yelle, Gelinas, McAmmond...

that's a TON of blue collar workers. Not even close to the most skilled bunch by ANY means...but he got something out of em. And I remember watching that team, they were tough as ****ing nails.

Hey a nice Canucks fan :) Refreshing.

One word: Accountability

Flames fan coming in peace.
I think you guys honestly got a steal if it's true. He sucked as a GM but there's a damn good reason he was trusted for so long in Calgary. His coaching ability is off the charts. He gets a huge effort out of his players. He's most known for that mean tough defensive style sure, but if you look at his past teams, he's had nowhere close to the talent he would have to work with in LA. I think you would see a crazy mesh of system and talent, and it would make you guys much much harder to play.
I long for the days when Calgary's forecheck was unbeatable, when every player was crushing people behind the net, when teams couldn't get the puck out of their own damn zone because we were all over them. That was Daryl Sutter's in your face smash mouth brand of Hockey. If true I think we'll see a pick up season in LA.

At the very least we know that Sutter will hold every single player accountable, including the veterans. He called out Gary Suter in this particular instance while he was coaching Chicago:
http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1995-04-17/sports/9504170042_1_misconducts-drew-darryl-sutter
Defenseman Gary Suter hasn't scored a point in 11 games for the Blackhawks and it hasn't escaped coach Darryl Sutter's notice.

"Gary Suter right now is a very, very average hockey player for us," Sutter said after Sunday's loss. "Chris Chelios is carrying him.

"There's guys who've had a lot of ice time, deservedly or undeservedly, the (Patrick) Poulins and those people. They're not doing a thing for this club."

It's due time that someone lit a fire under some of these player's *****.
