Well I didn't add Rundblad 'cause I believe it will take way more than Leblanc. I do have some guys in there that would cost more than Leblanc but I believe that it would cost even more...maybe too much.
Howden is from the 2010 draft. I didn't add those guys as they might still be analysed. 2nd complete season in the AHL....might not be as offensive as some would like him to be but maybe he'd be fine. We could probably go with the 2010 draft too.....See a guy like Kevin Hayes, big guy...but still in College. Is Chicago interested in letting him go. Never was interested in John McFarland, I do find he has a surprising stint this year in the AHL......I always was a big fan of Dalton Smith. Incredibly limited offense but energetic physically mature player....Brett Bulmer maybe....
But then we'll probably end up, to stay within the limits of size, with Jordan Weal. Great AHL seasons though....
While Howden and Rundblad are both good picks, Hayes caught my attn., the reason being that Beau Starrett has been favorably compared to Hayes and is available in the 2014 draft. Beau is expected to be the same hgt & wgt, has good hands and is not really making any of the regular lists of draftees. Central Scouting rates him a B prospect, which normally has a prospect in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th rds. With size playing such a big part in the Elite teams, a player that is predicted to be 6 ft.6ins and 230 lbs. winger opens my eyes, the Habs should be following his progress with ardor.IMHO instead of trading assets for these players.
When our group of scouts are considered to be in the top 1% of evaluators, these High School prospects and others like Chatham and MacInnis are well known in the US. To compete with the best franchises, Timmins and Bergevin need to be aware and drafting these players, before St.Louis and others or it will be another decade before the Habs are true contenders, at least IMHO.
Singing the praises of smaller talented players that disappear around these types should be evidence that midgets cannot compete against players of like abilities with 6 ins. and 30 lbs. advantages, simply put. Fair no, but true yes, there are no heavyweight leagues, that play separate from Flyweight leagues in hockey. So you pays your moneys and takes your chances, I am betting the teams with bigger players will continue to win the SC and those that buck the system will not ever win again.
