Which tells all of us Robertson , when it matters, did not make an impression on the guy who signs the game roster card ... when given the opportunity , you have to kick the f-ing door down... and never leave, you have to make the most out of the minutes you get.
Or we could start asking ourselves why management will give significantly more leash to veterans even if they are playing terribly over younger players with upside. Robertson is one of the Leafs 12 best forwards by any metric and just like some other young players we have had in recent years we have never given them much of a chance to succeed.

If they want to trade Liljegren, they need to let him play a couple of games so that he can have a chance to show his potential. No one is going to want to touch him if he supposedly cant even earn a roster spot over Benoit & Timmins who hasn't exactly been great.
It’s getting to the point of being ridiculous. If Treliving and Berube weren’t convinced of him even being a good bottom pairing defenseman (an opinion I find ridiculous and indefensible) then he should have been traded before being re-signed or immediately afterwards. There is no benefit to him sitting 10 of the first 11 games for any party involved, especially when our bottom pairing has been shaky at times.

Re: Liljegren

Frank Servalli (JD Bunkis Podcast today):

"I was told that a few teams had inquired and asked, understanding that he’s available, ‘Hey, what’s the price gonna be? What does this look like?'” he said. “It seems like there’s been enough interest, at least to this point, that they can end up moving the player without much consequence.”

I used to think Robertson had a lot of potential. Pacioretty contributing no matter who he's with or how much TOI he get's is making me second guess that.

In the case of Liljegren, I think he should be playing much more. Leafs need to show his value, whether that's positive or negative. If he plays well, he'll have value in a trade. If he plays poorly, he could likely be waived and unclaimed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if waived and unclaimed, I believe his salary doesn't count against the cap hit.

Just the typical story of the Leafs. Robertson has shown every single time when he is put in positions to score he does, but we never once gave him any amount of top 6 time with any playmaker or even put him out on PP situations for longer than 30 seconds.

He'll go on and score 35 goals somewhere
The guy has some serious moves. I think Robertson is great, sometimes he looks a little like Marner out there with the way he can deke and skate circles around other players.

I just never understood why the guy never gets enough ice time?

Wondering if it has something to do with locker room issues or something? Is he a difficult guy to get along with maybe? Can't understand why the guy never gets a chance because he looks dangerous out there every time he's on the ice, something is holding him back. Is he holding himself back?

I don't think the Leafs will trade Robertson unless he demands it again. Otherwise, they can just sit him in the press box and use him when they want. Trading him doesn't save much in the way of cap space, so better to have him in the press box and available to score every few games.

Fans generally complain that every coach favours veterans over younger players, and I think quite often that is correct. In Berube's case, I think it is 1,000% correct, and I think that's probably okay for the current iteration of the Leafs. They are trying to win now, not develop players. I think it's a strategy that will work, but it isn't without consequences.

It’s a strategy with a very short shelf life but after Matthews leaves at the end of his contract is rebuild time in Toronto with no youth outside of Matt Knies.

If the plan was to build around Liljegren at the end of Matthews' contract, then the shelf was made out of chip board (Ikea). ;)

I am not claiming to be an insider, but the salary cap will stress things with this roster.

Every insider has speculated some kind of potential trade due to players like Hakanpaa and Dewer returning from LTIR.

It seems to me that there's no interest in Liljegren. If they don't want to use assets or retain for a team to take him, then they should waive him.

Robertson has been showcased enough. He doesn't want to be in TOR, and he'll never crack this line-up. They'll likely get a lot less than a 2nd for him in a trade. He will likely get a chance with another team, but in TOR there are too many forwards ahead of him for him to see regular action.

Anyway, I'll open this up to a poll. What do you think will happen to each player?
How do you feel now, little more happy it's been done.

Simply put he does one thing well 10ish% of the time. You have to make sure he gets sheltered minutes, he is dangerous with and without the puck. It's the without part that coaches hate.

I feel good. Surprised Treliving got that much for him. A 3rd and a 6th can be used to bolster their team going towards the trade deadline.

I've watched Liljegren for a long time both as a Marlie and as a Leaf. He had maybe 2 or 3 weeks where it seemed like he had some potential.

He's been mostly frustrating. Too soft, too slow with decision making on the ice, not a fast skater, not defensive, and not offensive.

If he continues in the NHL at any capacity, it will be a huge achievement for him.
