Value of: Hall to STL

If we trade hall and do not get a nice defenseman back or nice defenseman prospect, I would be furious

Dunn plus late first sounds nice

Not interested in forwards as we already have a log jam up front. If we trade hall, zacha is a good bet to take his spot.
Dunn is a non-starter. The other LDs on the Blues are Gunny and Bouw and both of them are on the wrong side of 30 (or 35). Dunn's age, position, and skillset probably makes him our most valuable younger player outside of Thomas.

If you are looking for a highend caliber young LD then a 3-way trade would need to be explored.

Mikkola in my book is NHL ready, but Blues top6 is too good. Top4 role easily in future. Hard to find that tall who has such a good wheels. Parayko fast. He's gem. Hate to lose him for rental.

Thomas has a solidified role on the team...why did you lump him in with 2 prospects?

He really needs to be either either Schwartz/Schenn or RoR/Perron....his talent is getting wasted on a line with Bozak + random grinder.
This year's Thomas hasnt solidified a damn thing.

To be fair, I don't think that wrist is still 100% yet.
I'm not down on him but reading some users and social media, you'd think the Blues have CM97 out there. Alot of flash but not enough production. My original point was Vladi's spot was going to be a revolving door and a poster took issue with me lumping Thomas in there with the Blues' top 2 prospects.

I really wish that Kyrou was healthy as I think the Schenn line could really use his speed as an advantage.

I think the + is going to be pretty substantial, i wouldnt move him for Kyrou alone.

No I wouldn’t think so. I think Kyrou + a 1st + maybe something else smaller is probably in the ballpark for a theoretical deal.

We hear this all the time and return for pending UFAs are always lackluster

Eh Hall is better than a good number of the pending UFAs you see traded.

I rather keep our futures than throw them away för rental. We don't have to win.

Rather give Kyrou and Kostin a change to play up while Vlady is out.

I don't think it "matters". Teams won't give up substantial returns for UFAs unless they intend to resign them

Kyrou+1st+Mikkola for Hall. Calling it.

I’d accept it assuming the Devils couldn’t get a better offer or work out a deal with a team he’d sign with.

Young, potential Top6 forward with speed and a RH shot, a first, and a potential top 4 dman, again with speed and with a shot on a side the team needs on defense. Great value.

he's a rental with an expiring contract, so full value's probably off the table

blues aren't desperate for this to happen so there's always the offseason
No skin off St. Louis' nose if Hall were to go to, say, Nashville, Colorado or Vegas instead. How could the Blues possibly lose there?

As usual, I am opposed to giving up a 1st for a rental. I am not buying into the "now or never, screw the future" philosophy and I never will. Our prospect pool needs stocking up. We just gave up Bokk. We just can't keep mortgaging the future.

The future is already screwed.

Don’t think Nashville or Vegas have the cap space. Not a realistic scenario.

Colorado might, but can’t see Sakic giving up a ton of futures unless Hall will signs there. It’s possible, but doubt they would be willing to give the 10+ mill Hall would likely demand.

Regardless, you’re making a horrible argument. “Better pay a lot for a player because whatabout him going somewhere else?” - is a stupid argument.

1st + (Kyrou / kostin)

I could even see a bidding war for a top 5 lw making 6million (3 million 50%retained) for a team like Stl Colorado Boston Montreal Carolina NYI just to name a few. Could you imagine Hall on
Boston or Colorado that a move that pushes a team over the top IMO

He's going to UFA, or at least that should be the assumption.

I don't see the Blues (or anyone for that matter) giving up a 1st, an NHL ready top prospect, and another A-/B+ prospect for a rental. That would absolutely be the price if they were to work out an extension with him as part of the trade, much like they did with Faulk.

As far as the cap implications for next year and the future, that takes care of itself as part of the deal. If you can talk him into something around $9M or less (yes, I know that's unlikely, just like this deal actually happening) you can find the flexibility to fit him under your cap in the off season. If you can't because he's holding out for $10M or more, then you probably aren't pulling the trigger on the deal anyway because you're not going to be able to keep him. There are plenty of guys to choose from. Allen will almost certainly be gone one way or another, Bouwmeester will almost certainly retire (maybe Steen, too) and then there is Bozak and Faulk. Sure, Faulk has an NTC, but if you can offer him a trade to a desirable destination as opposed to waiting a year and getting scooped up in an expansion draft, maybe he bites.

I can't see the Devils dealing Hall at this point. If after Christmas they are still struggling and he won't commit then they likely start exploring deal. That would give Blues time to figure out whether we are really in market for guy like him. Kids struggle enough we might feel much different about pushing chips to center of table to get guy like Hall as rental.
