On another note, while Hughes and Gorton deserve their share of criticism for the start (Gorton even admitted they shouldn't have gone with so many young D) and the high value given on some trades, I look at Detroit and I have no idea what the plan is there. Yzerman certainly hasn't reproduced his TB magic and he clearly doesn't have someone like Brisebois helping him.

A small bit of interesting info, the team is fourth in both amounts of 22+ and 20mph+ speed bursts, meaning we have one of consistently fastest teams in the league.

Also Slafkovsky is slower than last year. So no, all of your eyes are not deceiving you, though I find its because he just doesn't move his feet enough.

Who are the top speedsters in this case? I assume Matheson, Newhook, Anderson, Heineman and Guhle?

Skipped the game for Christmas wrapping....Eggnog....and a little Christmas movie. Caught the highlights. I see a couple give aways by Hutson. To be expected. Beauty play to draw the penalty though and then the assist to Patty. Lucky deflection on that goal...but goals scorers are gonna score.

Looking forward to tomorrow night!!

GHG!!
Incomplete without that movie title! 🥹

I find Slaf faster since a couple of games. It’s the time of reaction, if he reacts quick to the play he’s skating faster to point A to B because he doesn’t really question himself.

I thought it was a solid win for a change. I mean, that Matheson Hutson duo is a disaster and I have no idea why they are paired together (both were on for all 3 goals I think) but overall, they beat a team they should beat. Came from behind. I was surprised it was Arbs first goal... thought he had one earlier in the season. Laine is lethal with that shot - good trade. Carrier didn't suck - so already better than Barron.

1 of 6. 5 more to go (in a row) and we are in da playoffs!!!!

Slaf the only hockey player that becomes slower the more he loses weight.

Slaf is 20 i would not be surprised if he partied a bit after signing his contract last summer and did not prepare well enough for this season and since he's young as the season goes on he will get back in game shape. That would be natural for a guy his age to have fun after securing his future. If that's the case as long as it's this summer only and he learns from it then not a problem.

5-3 since adding Laine...

Will be interesting to see, if he stays healthy, what the Habs record with him in the lineup looks like 50 games from now.

Might well justify the cautious optimism the Habs brass had that the roster was pushing close to playoff contention with that one offseason addition.

tbh they did not really commit to the rebuild they tried to win after Seider and Raymond but 2 players aint enough.

Pretty sure Matheson wont be here after the TDL 2026.
The habs rebuild shouldn’t be cut off after 3 years, either. They haven’t filled the roster yet.

It's not cut off we have two first for this draft and we should trade vets at the TDL. You can find talents in the 2nd round as long as you have many picks. We already have two 1st, two 2nd and three 3rd for next draft. We should probably add another 3rd to that after the deadline maybe another 2nd if KH can fleece someone. Calgary's pick looks great atm they wont keep that pace all year so the longer they can hold it the better since they could fall into the 11th to 14th range which would give us two picks in the top 15th even if we are "in the mix".

I’ll believe it when it happens.

Hughes needs to break a glass ceiling by dealing away a Quartexx client for the first time. 💀

I don’t trust the habs scouting to find late gems at this point. Look at the Leafs picking late and still getting good, big players. Watch Montreal not do that. If the habs don’t upgrade their scouting they need another top five pick or two.

They drafted top-10 seven times in a row, but outside of Seider and Raymond they don't have much to show for those top-10 picks, but what's really killing them is they haven't really hit with any pick outside of those top picks. They had 8 second round picks over a 3 year period from 2018-2020 and the only two of them have even played a single game in the NHL

If you aren't getting players outside of the 1st round your rebuild will stall badly regardless of how you do or don't commit.
