Yes I have been thinking of this too. If these young players don’t develop. The window closes again. This core may just not be good enough. And that includes nick. I think demidov and Hutson and fowler may be the first pieces in a new core. But that means another 5 years of building. I don’t see Suzuki ever leading this core to a cup. Never have. May have to start over again. Another 5 years.
It's not really a new core. Suzuki was always going to be a vet once the rebuild is done. I mean some guys around here are absolutely delusional when it comes to this rebuild. We sarted the rebuild with Slaf. Suzuki is 5 years older than Slaf. By the time Slaf enters his prime (~23) Suzuki will be at the end of his 20ies so at the end of his prime. The core of the rebuild is players who are 22 and younger (2020 draft and up). Players older than that will be vet at the end of their prime once the rebuild is done. We have only Suzuki and Caufield in the previous age bracket and two players doesn't constitute a core.

It's the first time we attempt a rebuild since i watch this team (1984). Strange never ending story if you ask me. It never ends before it even starts. The never ending and never starting story. A Schrödinger rebuild. You don't know if it started or never ended before you open the box.

This. I have my reserve about some of the decisions made by the new management group, but at least they commited to a rebuild, something that was much needed in Montreal for a long ass time.

Don't get me wrong I have my reservation too. I don't like the Newhook trade at all. Not sure about the Reinbacher pick. I would certainly not call this a succesful rebuild yet, But like you said at least they are trying and it's too soon to pass a final judgement. Big decisions are waiting for KH next summer though. Is Dach a center? Is Newhook a top 6 player. What to do with Matheson now that Hutson is there? Do we tade some kids for a vet yet?

im not that pesseismtic, everything changes with the additions of some star (superstar hopefully) prospects / players in Demidov, Hutson and perhaps this years 1OA pick (should be at least another top 5 pick at this rate). The current core then become part of the surrounding cast.

The core essentially is Demidov + Slaf + 2025 pick + Hutson + Fowler (+Reinbacher)

To me that should be good enough to compete for years to come when you factor in a surrounding cast of Suzuki, Caufield, Guhle, and whoever else from Dach, Newhook, Mailloux, Roy, Beck, etc are able to stand out.

But it does suck to see so many younger players suck ass in a very younger player friendly team. Crazy to think

The rebuild will be over when Suzuki, Caufield and Slaf becomes the team’s 2nd line. :naughty:

I think eventually one of those first two gets traded in a blockbuster move to give us a better balanced club...

Who would give a better return in a deal the center or the goal scorer.

The center for sure. Until proven otherwise Caufield is a potential next Skinner just with a better contract which will make him more valuable.
