I agree with staying the course, keeping the picks and Timminsing our way to a championship.

Eventually we'll have enough good prospects that we will be able to keep the best and trade the rest to fill organisational needs.

I think the Habs are done, even though, we need another physical top 9 player.

I would have hope for a bigger trade though... We are in good position to win the Cup, we have cap-space, we have lots of draftpicks + prospect as tradebaits. Everything is going our way this season, it would have been good to see our GM making a trade that would keep improving the club. Because, honestly, i don't know if we're gonna that good next season...

My thoughts as well. Would have been the ideal time to get a Top 6/9 guy for a good run. I know MB is in rebuild mode but still.

we have more than a few 40 to 60 pts forwards, getting one more wouldnt put us over the top. The guy would play on 3rd line, if not 4th...

This current front office has been nothing but fantastic for all Habs Fans worldwide.
Not to mention bringing credibility back to the most storied franchise in hockey history.
Gee we didn't get so and so...
Overpriced...
We aren't into our 6th year of Gainey's five year plan anymore.
Do you stop to think about the freaking mess we were in last year.
Leave it be...

That depends who the guy is. We're good cause we roll at three lines. But it's not like any of our guys are not replaceable.

sure some of them are, but replacing a 40/60 pts guy by another 40/60 pts guy usually doesnt put you over the top.

as for ADDING one, instead of replacing one, you dont trade good assets to get a guy who'll play on your 4th line or something.

I think our top 9 is set cuz in fact we have 10 players that can play top 9 once Bourque is healthy.

What we need is a top 4D like any other team (cuz Emelin just doesn't have the stuff this year) but it is correct in not trading two 2nd rounders for a rental. Imagine having Bouillon and Emelin as a 5-6 though. Drewiske as 7th and Tinordi/Beaulieu as 8th. We'd be pretty darn set!

The smart move would be to trade a draft pick and a prospect like Dalton thrower for a guy like Derek Morris.

I'm really happy that we didn't go after all those big names. I'm hoping Bergevin hit another home run with drewiski. I'm not expecting him to be a star but he can be a valuable piece for the playoffs and I'm exited to see how he fits in.

Thankfully you are not the GM. You could get Morris for a song and you would give a 1st and Bieksa type prospect???? For the posters that want Olesz and Hemsky...WTF? Pommer is a power forward compared to these softies.

Torres, Gordon, King, Thorburn, Tangradi and possibly Pyatt(NYR) are all players that we could acquire for cheap, give us some size and grit, and could slot into Army's spot. I think MB could make one more move to acquire a bottom6er with size+grit, the beauty of it being that we can walk away if the price isn't right. I hope he does go for it though, I would be willing to give up dallas' 3rd, which could carry some decent value.

I think the Habs have just as good as a chance as anyone this year so why not take a chance and roll the dice....

What makes you think we have as good as a chance as teams with solid playoff experience. Our group as a whole, lacks experience, they lack playoff success. Look at past Cup winners, they built up some playoff success as a core before winning the cup.

We were 3rd last last year, this core is in its first year having success together. I hope we win but I honestly wouldn't bet on this team winning the cup. We lack defensive depth, our forwards aren't experienced enough, yea we are winning and having success but this isn't a Stanley Cup team.

But we are definitely on the right track and I see a Cup as more likely in the next 1-4 years compared to any of the last 15+ years.

Management has a plan again like they did before Gainey lost his daughter and he lost his instincts.

I hope the team doesnt regret standing pat....will revisit this next year i am afraid especially if things go in the tank...because nobody can predict the team is going to be in this position next season

Aaahh the ever elusive overrated overpaid Power Forward...
Very poignant remark.
Don't want any of those bums...
I just love watching Lucic Chara Horton et al losing it after a gnat bites them...
Much better than having Power Forwards...
Better draft some cause we don't want to pay the going rate...

I disagree. I think the trade deadline is the worst time to try to get an impact player. You often have to overpay because of the bidding wars, the guy plays for 20 or so games with your team only.

Plus any trade that doesn't send just picks and prospects the other way have risk of diruptiing the team's chemistry.

The off season would be a better time to try and upgrade our line-up, and that's why I'm ok with MB doing nothing or just a couple of minor tweaks.

As much as I'm OK with not doing anything, it would really suck come playoff time that we are a guy or two short from doing some serious damage. Kinda reminds me of the year we lost to Philly in the 2nd round. If only Gainey made a few moves, we could have done some serious, serious damage. A couple years later, same thing.

Not a chance MB gives up a 3rd for any of these...
Look at our current acquisitions (type of character)(Hockey Smarts) etc...
Besides our PK isn't quite there yet...(not referring to Subbeast)

The players I listed are all pretty decent hockey players (some more than others) and when I said I'd be willing to give up DAL's 3rd, I meant at most. And that's also in the event that it's not a one-for-one trade. A little overpayment in the form of that pick isn't so bad, especially with 3 2nds.

I understand what you're saying about the mold MT and MB are creating, but outside of Torres none of those guys are risks in terms of character/locker room problems. Any of them would look fine on our 4th line.

In the past 5 weeks we've added a second line winger, a fourth line center, and a #6 Dman.

Other than adding an Armstrong replacement/Moen upgrade there isn't much left to do.

We have a top-6 winger and a 2nd unit PP QB coming back in the next month so don't forget that.

This board is such a buzz on deadline day and a lot of the time more of a buzz kill. The way I see it is you pick 2 of the best players that might be available...argue about it then 1 get's traded (Jagr) half get pissed off now it's to the next best 2 players available the 2nd get's traded (Clowe) ..jbow..Iginla etc...it just goes down the line and maybe I've read 4 posters that a good with standing pat as is.
It's like the 5 stages of grief here ..denial, anger, bargaining, depression, acceptance.
And it's TOTALLY like the 5 stages, most teenagers and young adults here probably have never heard of that before but think about it.True?

No one ever seems happy at all here, if Price doesn't shut out EVERY team all the time "He can't steal us a game"
If our top 6 aren't on a 2ppg pace then they're either "to small" or they suck...trade him.
Give it a rest some of you please it's not the end of the world......or is it? :sarcasm:

I think a majority of us (myself included) are totally fine with where we are, but won't necessarily post about it or complain about missed opportunities. At this point, the board is more or less sane.

Remember when leaf fans were on suicide watch (around the #freeJakeGardiner fiasco)? Then all of a sudden, Lupul is crowned league MVP and the passion that unites them is back. They're far worse and we'll see what happens with the Kipper watch.

I trust the current team + Bourque going into the playoffs.

To be fair, besides some added on pieces I wouldn't say the Kings had that much playoff experience...they just got bounced in the first round a few years in a row beforehand..
