Would love to see this just to watch Anderson go from a great player on a good deal to a terrible player on a terrible contract overnight.
Is he a great player on a good deal though? Seems like a decent 3rd liner who is overpaid by about 2 million
I agree. HF seems to think he is a star however.
Here's a hypothetical for you. Given the following:
Habs HF posters A and B like Anderson and think he's great and amazing and wonderful and all that and will continue to be such from now well into blissful eternity.
Habs HF posters C, D, E, F, G, and H think Anderson is good but that contract might hurt going forward.
Habs HF posters I and J think Anderson is overrated and hate his contract. And also aren't big fans of the Leafs, to put it mildly.

Anderson is currently with the Habs. A and B post incessantly about how great he is, and C-H* occasionally chime in about positive bits, but might also sometimes mention future concerns.
Apparent Conclusion: "HF thinks Anderson is a great player on a good deal."

Anderson is hypothetically traded to the Leafs. I and J immediately go on a tear mocking the Leafs for taking on this bust contract, and maybe some of C-H chime in trying to rein in fellow Habs fans but also acknowledging that yes, there were contract issues.
Apparent Conclusion: "HF thinks Anderson is a terrible player on a terrible contract."

Note how the overwhelming majority is largely calm and reasonable, but a vocal minority is seemingly dictating what supposedly "HF thinks" regardless.
Conclusion: Never assume you know what the group thinks based on the loudmouth annoyances.

*: This wasn't intentional at first but makes for a shockingly good see-what-I-did-there in retrospect, so I kept it.

As far as I'm concerned, MB shouldn't be allowed to make significant trades unless it's for getting rid of contracts for future.

Just like what happened with Gauthier back in 2012.

And that's why they sucks... just like their team.
I'm sure they don't care what you think of them . Ownership own the team not the media or the fans . Decisions to be made will only be made by ownership/management.

And you're a fan of which team?

Cause personally, your offer is logical and good. I would do it.

Habs fan here...
What do you do with Kerfoot and Holl?
I'd flip them elsewhere for future as well.

A 2nd maybe. A 1st for Toffoli? I doubt it. Unless it's a loan at the deadline by a contender and the pick is at the end of the 1st round. If so, the Habs should take it. They need to rebuild the hard way like PIT, CHI, LOS, EDM, DET did, etc. They need to move Price and Petry at all costs or they can not go full rebuild.

Yes a 1st from a contender, im pretty sure a team in needs of top 6 depth for a playoffs run will pay that for toffoli. I would move Petry too but I really doubt it and Price contract is untradeable

With Miles Wood out for a long period , I’d like to see the Devils look into Anderson . I don’t think Wood is going to be worth resigning after he comes out of rehab.
Also need a scoring winger / PP specialist . Any ideas on Toffoli for ?? Devils prospects or young players?

Ok.

That doesn't change the fact that they suck.

The Molson have done the same thing the last two times they owned the habs: destroy the team because they hired an incompetent GM and let him in place far too long. Réjean Houle and now Marc Bergevin.

The Habs made two moves already that destroyed them from being on their way...

The God awful Sergachev for Drouin trade and passing on Tkachuk for JK. Those two moves alone change the entire complexion of the Habs. For them to do anything "drastic" now, they would need to put a Suzuki or Caufield in play -- the other guys aren't brining back anything drastic enough to change the entire team. Price's contract is way too massive to get full value for him and Petry isn't playing his best hockey.

I mean, sure, trade Petry for two 2nds -- great. But what does that really do for a full "rebuild"? The Habs are not getting significant returns for Drouin, Hoffman, Armia, Toffoli, Romanov, etc.

Honestly, the Habs are in a very tricky place right now. They went all-in for their miracle run last year and with the loss of Weber, and demotion of Caufield, they are not dealing from a position of strength. And Bergevin has limited prime assets to move to begin with.

Rebuilding the Habs is, perhaps, the most difficult job a GM would have today. They almost need to trade Price for anything, because as long as he's there, Bergevin will have some "excuse" to try to stay competitive and not look to the future -- that is a long and painful road.
Yeah. That’s how you rebuild. Trade your super young high skill players. (Suzuki and Caufield). Give your head a shake

If anything he will be a seller. And for good reason, this team without Weber is a joke. There would be no point in trying to win, this year is a writeoff. He will hold tight and move vets for picks at the deadline.

This team has been a joke, not considering the last Cinderella playoff run, for the last 4-5 years or so, with Weber or without him...

P.S.: MB IS the storm... please don't allow him to try to fix it... unless he trades himself with a 3rd rd pick for future considerations...

What is the price on Montembleaut?

while Mrazek is out I think he would be a good fit for our backup position, and then we can let him get a bunch of reps in will Kallgren/Woll/Hutch in the minors

Is a first possible? Sure, outside chance. Is it likely to happen? No.

Chiarot is found money for you guys - a second would be a big win. Anyone expecting a first is not being realistic.
I agree with you. I like Chiarot, but you don't get a 1st for him as a rental. Heck Taylor Hall as a rental didn't return a 1st. If Chiarot is coming into a team he really can't be effective playing above a #4 slot. Three months of a #4 defenseman doesn't bring in a 1st.

Honestly the only thing I remember about Chiarot is the amount of cross checks he throws. How has he been so far this for Montreal ? I know he was getting called for a lot of them in the first few games of the season, with the crack down on "hooks" and "cross-checks" this year. He was a pain to play against last year, mostly because he just cross checks whoever tries to screen his goalie

Looks like Girard is disponible in Colorado. I wonder if something around Toffoli + pick/prospect could be done. That being said, I don’t know what the Avs would be looking for.

Lehk for Dylan Strome

Deal Chiarot at the deadline
Possibly deal Toffoli at the deadline with minor retention to help the return since he has 2 years left.

Hopefully sign Harris and play him the end of the year. Sign Struble for Laval.

As a neutral fan it seems very obvious to me that the Habs management and ownership have zero interest in rebuild. Look at the moves that organization has made over the past 2 seasons.
29 year old Gallagher - re-signed long term (7 more years @ $6.5)
27 year old Josh Anderson - signed long term (6 more years @ $5.5)
31 year old Hoffman - signed for 3 years @ $4.5
29 year old Toffoli - signed for 3 more seasons @ $4.25
28 year old Armia - re-signed $3.4 x 4 years
33 year old Petry - re-signed $6.25 x 4 years
31 year old Savard - Signed $3.5 x 4 years

Add to these names Weber and Price (36 yrs @ $7.86 x 5 and 34 yrs @ $10.5 x 5) and this roster seems like the total opposite of a rebuilding team. I could see a shake-up type trade potentially but a rebuild would be very difficult with the way the current roster is constructed.
