I had a bunch of Kirby images ready to use this season but they are all useless now since he's no good.

So sad .....

this franchise is scared shitless of goal scorers and offense
We could go on, although I’m not sure I’d call it that — more about priorities and certain choices being made and their early fallouts, plus inherited baggage.

Head coach who doesn’t want experienced coaching staff around him, smallish team not physically dominant, needing more first line talent. GM has tried some young, reclamation projects — question for me is how long will he wait if he needs to cut bait.

They need to get their next moves right, esp. after this season when a whole lot of cap room is kicking in. There is still time to address several concerns.

Why? The team is rebuilding and the worst players on it are guys brought in by previous management.

Honestly, Dvorak, Armia, etc will be gone soon. The team will have more space to bring someone in
Newhook, Barron, Matheson, and Dach are pretty bad themselves.

The question is if Hughes got most of his roster acquisitions wrong and, if you take into account his inability to sell Savard, Anderson, and others, got maybe 50% of his sales right… are we in the right hands?

It's getting more and more clear that we are not. It's not unrealistic to expect same results from Hughes as from MSL. Both have zero experience in their jobs at this level. Negotiating contracts is not the same as evaluating talent or building a roster.

There needs to be more heat on Hughes and he needs to start making moves to improve team THIS season. Having Suzuki, Caufield, Hutson, Slaf and Guhle on the team that is defeated before they even start a game cannot possibly be good for their development.

Get a f***ing, goalie, Hughes! Start with that.

I dunno — it would run contrary to their “lose, for the greater good” mandate. As long as the fans and media are not tilted against them I don’t think they’ll feel any pressure. Does Hughes even want to win? Has he made any indication that he’s ever even tried to put together a winning team?

It’s all been firesales, gambles, and cap dumps. He went out of his way to acquire his former client Newhook. How do we know he’s even capable of improving a roster?

Matheson is prone to bad decisions, but I don’t think he’s a bad player. He was one of the top minute munchers last year and simply plays too much in too big a role.

Dach is returning from injury. He will figure it out.

Barron is not good, and Newhook is a mystery given his last two years he was playing at a serviceable 2nd/third line level.

I am not sure if you’re in the playstation school of getting rid of anyone older than 24, but you have to keep veterans around and I’d much rather have Anderson and Savard than a 3rd round pick. What do you honestly think he would get for them?

Hughes, in my opinion, hasn't done much better than Bergevin. His best players - Suz, CC, Arbs (yes, better player than oh, I don't know... Matheson?), Guhle are Bergevin's picks/trades. Hutson was a great Hughes pick and Slaf... well... still to be seen. I don't he'll ever be great, but hope can turn decent. Maybe. Then, Hughes gave us Dach, Newhook, Barron, Matheson (FFS)... for the second straight year he f***ed up the goaltending situation. I am sorry... I don't see a huge difference. Some good, some bad... team still sucks and will continue to for a foreseeable future.

Point is they’re not better than last year, their aggregate performance is flat at best (Matheson, Barron) or significantly worse (Dach, Newhook) in comparison.

These are his acquisition targets and they’ve either peaked already or are unable to peak when we need them to. Bad judgement to acquire players like this.

I’m definitely not in that category and the point is he’s had more than enough time to churn through the roster if he wanted. He decided to retain Anderson when his value was high. He didn’t sell Savard and now Savard’s looks cooked.

On one hand we have all this talk about assets and the cold arithmetic of tanking and losing… on the other hand we see excuses made for a majority of Hughes moves (including the 5OA 2023) that have proven to be worth reevaluating.

Maybe Hughes looks passable after a sober reevaluation but the blind faith is inappropriate.

wow you're out to lunch here. None of this is even close to being accurate. Hughes is night and day from MB. No idea how you would justify this opinion. The sky is falling in your world, I guess.

We've been small and lacking goals since 94. They hang onto assets way too long, not drafting Leonard or Michkov , not moving friggen Barron like he was a prized asset.. Primeau.. .getting Newhook (another small player) nothing makes sense with this team. The irony that Allen and Kovacevic are exactly the players we need in this rebuild and they let them go .. why?

It's all so confusing, from the coaching decisions to the draft.

He's not a center. Not a good idea. The same experience did nothig with Kovalev at center 15 years ago.
He plays just like a center. On the powerplay i would keep him on the left wing. I don't see the harm in trying it. Things can't possibly get worse then they already are. I never heard of or have seen Kovalev tried at center.

Kovacevic is a real head scratcher, the guy was a +11 on our dumpster fire of a team last season. 6'5" beast of a man. Makes no sense, Hugo fu.ked up on that one.

I hate to open old wounds and thus I’ve chosen to move on from Michkov.

Every time he performs will always sting a little but Habs did the same to the Flyers by snagging Caufield before their pick. Shit happens.

Maybe Reinbacher becomes something, maybe he doesn’t. We’ll just have to focus on the next decisions.

About Newhook, I’ll be curious to see if he gets a longer leash as a Quartexx client. Clearly, the Avs knew what they were doing.

Selling Kovacevic for a 4th pick was a mistake. Allen played on a Stanley Cup winner and was a good mentor. Primeau and probably Barron, that dollar store giraffe, have none to very limited trading value. Season is down the tubes anyway, they might as well both stay on as tank commanders. 💀

Reinbacher's injury just amplifies the loss of Kovacevic, he would of had plenty of opportunity for reps with the big club this year. Hughes when trading Kovy did it with a healthy Reinbacher in tow. He needed the space for guys like him.

Saying the trade was a mistake is making that assertion in hindsight. The whole Reinbacher injury just sucks in general.

That said Kovy would definitely help now.

Stopped watching after 3-0...................Matheson was hot hot garbage, sweet mother if the guy is injured, well let him sit .they played fine without him for a couple of games.
Brutal play from a vet in the opening period.

They do not seem to be ready in the first period most nights..............and when they get scored on, you can almost assure they will let in 1-2 more in the next few minutes.....brutal.

The Philosopher King just may not be the right coach guys....
