I cant stop watching this play. Monahan is one of the smartest players I've seen play here. His hockey IQ is high and is always making the right moves. If injuries didnt slow him down he'd be even more effective.

He’ll probably use the same technique in order to secure a long term deal — he’ll get Hughes to commit. :sarcasm:

Nice to see slick Nick rounding into form.

Hopefully that early season lull is the longest production gap we see from him... When he's on, he's a fantastic player to watch and plays at a 1C level.

Yeah but we aren't talking about a deep offensive unit littered with superstars.

Eichel was also acquired, not drafted.. so as long as we continue to accumulate assets, we just need the right circumstance like Vegas with Eichel to make the move.
Well I would disagree that Stone and Eichel aren't superstars. I know Eichel was acquired but such situations are rather rare. The easiest way to acquire an asset like Eichel is to simply draft them.

I don't really see many teams other than Tampa that are littered with offensive superstars. Most have 1 or 2 up front and it's enough. We don't really have any.

Habs best game of the year so far, even in a loss.
Missed the game due to travel and just watched it now. I agree, this was the best game the team played so far this season. It's not even close. Controlled the play for extended periods against one of the strongest teams in the league. If they continue to play this well going forward you can forget about drafting in the top 5 next draft. Heck, they may even challenge for a playoff spot.

I was really impressed with all phases of their game. Anderson had his best game by far and was a force. Suzuki and Caufield seemed to have re-kindled their magic and were dangerous every time they were on the ice. Monahan played another strong game and only increased his value (big time) if the team is out of the playoff picture and management wants to move him. Newhook showed his great speed (again) and could have had several goals. Harvey-Pinard showed his high hockey IQ and played a high tempo game on a line with two highly talented line mates. He more than kept up with them. Even Armia played well, showing strength on the boards and an active stick. Though Guhle was beaten a couple of times off the rush, he played a strong game and displayed his high level skating ability and vision. This kid's game is growing exponentially every game . Barron continued his excellent play and is cementing his position on the team. Matheson was a workhorse again, but continues to overhandle the puck when the simpler play was available. Xhekaj played a steady game, as he made few mistakes and showed his surprising offensive vision and skill on the powerplay. Only Harris and Kovacevic had weaker games with Harris suffering several turnovers and Kovacevic being beaten wide on Vegas' second game.

It is quickly becoming apparent that the strength of the team, at least in the early part of the season, is their goaltending. I earlier posted that if the Canadiens received good goaltending, they could make a game of it against a very strong Vegas team. Well, Montembeault did exactly that and that excellent level of goaltending coupled with a great team effort almost secured us a well deserved win.

I wonder why Armia didn't get an assist on Monahan's SH goal. Vegas goalie never had control of the puck(tried one touch pass and fanned).

They’re moving around, he doesn’t stay in the same spot all the time so it’s good because they can surprise and a lane will open up for him but if no one actually shoot they doesn’t fool anyone even if they’re moving around lol
The PP is getting a bit better since Suzuki and Caufield started moving around.

Ducharme is having a great effect on the Knights, I see.

Vegas management was pretty clear. They said they weren’t in a position where it was easy to trade for or integrate Eichel, and there were injury concerns, but that few teams burn bridges with players of that calibre to the extent that they become available. Regardless of context they figured they had to go for it. Doesn’t look like a bad decision.

Buffalo management is Bergevin/Milbury level. If they eventually get so many high picks that they can’t fail to build a good team it will be in spite of their efforts.
