I think young players were very excited w Laine acquisition and his injury was an unexpected knee to the ballsSomething triggered a "f*** This" effect coming out of the pre-season.
I can only speculate but the Greig-Dach Xhekaj affair could be the catalyst.
The players had Arber's back 100% after the fact the coach did not.
We've played one complete game all season against the Ottawa Senators.
Just a coincidence?
If they fold because of that then they are even weaker mentally than I thought.I think young players were very excited w Laine acquisition and his injury was an unexpected knee to the balls
That didn't help for sure particularly with the "in the mix" optimism that was reigning beforehand.I think young players were very excited w Laine acquisition and his injury was an unexpected knee to the balls
Galland.I won’t be surprised to see Marty get canned.
Just don’t know what other coaches are out there right now .
Buffalo, they were the youngest last year too even with Erik Johnson and Kyle Okposo. They keep saying Habs are the seond youngest team this season. Who is the youngest?

Galland.
Meh... A lot of exaggerated criticism as well.
Leafs are a contender. We aren't. For ~1/2 the game (3rd + large parts of the 1st) we were right there despite playing mediocre.
I wouldn't hire him as head coach... as an assistant he'd be ok. I think.Galland.

The center line is just way too weak. Last year we had Monahan till the TDL and we were in the games most nights. This year they gambled Dach would do the job as the 2nd line center and he obviously cant, he is struggling big time, even on the wing.My God this year has been ass. WTF is going on? What happened?
Question was who's available. No, no, no way. He's awful and loves his vets even more than MSL. Rangers blame him for Lafreniere's late development. He improved after Gallant left. He's old school.
He wouldn't want to be assistant. But I agree. MSL needs a guy like him or Martin to helpI wouldn't hire him as head coach... as an assistant he'd be ok. I think.
Monahan-typeI'm assuming Hughes is done with the Dach/Newhook type trades. We need vets that are good and reliable.
but this org obviously can't afford a 5x5M vet that everyone adoresMonahan-type
That 2023 draft was a key setback. Hughes reportedly tried every which way in order to nab one of the top 4 picks, which resulted in 4 Cs getting drafted. The center line is just way too weak. A center line made of Suzuki, Evans, Dvorak and Condotta just cant succeed, they all are in the wrong chair, Suzuki is a 2nd line center on a good team, Evans is a fourth line center lacking size, Dvorak is an AHLer, so is Condotta. People just cant expect better results unless Dach comes out of nowhere and turn the switch on, what I dont think will happen at this point.
And has been a glass body. Can't be adding 5 mil more dead cap if he gets hurt. Already got Anderson for years and Dvorak and Armia for this year.but this org obviously can't afford a 5x5M vet that everyone adores
They have Suzuki, Hage, Beck, Kapanen and Evans. Another scoring line centre would solidify things though. That 2023 draft was a key setback. Hughes reportedly tried every which way in order to to nab one of the top 4 picks, which resulted in 4 Cs getting drafted.
Now, back to the drawing board. Habs need to draft and overdraft centers (assuming several fall to them as BPAs) until they have so many to choose from that the next best of them end up as wingers with top 6 ability.
Early returns on Hage look good but more is needed.
Thirty years of ineptitude at the center position needs to end.
I wish we were in a position to draft Leo Carlsson, but we werent, Fantilli would have been nice too, but I had reservations regarding his IQ, as for Smith, I had Reinbacher over him on my list and Im still not a big fan, his game away from the puck still needs alot of work, he needs to get alot stronger and needs to figure out the pro game. Reinbacher was a good pick at 5 and we needed a top pair RD as well. We got him, he just needs to come back, stay healthy and keep progressing. Smith is a weak 6 ft. center who might end up on the wing, I dont think we missed much there. That 2023 draft was a key setback. agreed. Development is also not linear. They need to keep adding young talent in the next two drafts - including another high end C to insulate them from Dach failing @ centre. That 2023 draft was a key setback. Certainly doesn't look like they're competing.
Proving my point, the bolded is why ''rough night'' was an understament
Yeah but we were able to win or tie a handful of games leading up to that draft. That 2023 draft was a key setback. Hughes reportedly tried every which way in order to nab one of the top 4 picks, which resulted in 4 Cs getting drafted.
