As Bieksa pointed out, team is still competing hard for him. Doubt he gets canned unless we see the players quitting...

So you're telling me someone with NHL experience believes this team could be much worse?

In the 1st and 2nd we lost so many one on one battles.
What is even worse is that we lost many 2 on 1 battles and there was even one 3 on 1 battle where Leafs player skated away with the puck.
Thats simply effort problem.
If Marty cant make them to play hard, he needs to go.

Has to be this.

What’s the point of working your butt off to win if your coach and his bosses are not working their butts off to win? If the organization seems kinda really okay with backsliding into a tank… the players will feel it too. I figure anyway.

If the roster saw Hughes make some painful trade for the good of the roster, they’d perk up I figure. MSL has to make them believe he’s trying to find solutions too.
And that is how you destroy a rebuild. Trading a lot of assets for a middling player because a really good player will not be available until January at the earliest if at all.

So can we now say we are not going to be "in the mix" this year?:sarcasm:
So what should our goal be?
How about NOT waiting until the trade deadline and have a set of balls by sending down Dvorak, Armia and trading Savard.
Bring up Tuch, Roy and Logan M: live with there mistakes.
Yea I know it will disrupt a 9-1 Laval team but we might as well get something out of this year.
Screw the hybrid defensive system and just play a layered zone defense.
Playing the same tired lineup makes zero sense...at least make it entertaining product!

At one point we gonna need to keep useful veterent. Im not saying to keep armia, dvorak. But Monahan is an exemple. We hoped to be better than the last year without a Monahan? I mean, Young player don’t become 10 Times better in 1 summer. It takes years to developp.

It went from a rebuild to needing another rebuild. Every young player has regressed from last season and no expended potential is being lived up to. This game was the cherry on the turd sundae.

What changed from last year? So many injuries to deal with last year but they were in every game and never gave up. This year they're softer than baby shit. They just completely implode every game.

Embarrassing effort night in and night out. They're so fragile, MSL bag-skated them once and the team completely quit since.
The pressure… the never was any pressure last year… they started with some this year. It males all the difference.

Also this year, lines changes more and I don’t know why but we decided that what worked last year we should not tru anymore.

Ex. End of last year lines :

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Armia Newhook Gallagher

This year… we put Dach at center but move Newhook to the wing. We let Gallagher on the third line on the pretext that his line is doing good.

We move Dach from center to wing on a game to game bases.

Now, we are playing like crap… at least put players in position we want them and moves players that merits it lines.

I’d say

Caufield Suzuki Gallagher
Anderson Dach Slafkovsky
Armia Newhook Heineman
Pezzeta Evans Dvorak

Meh... A lot of exaggerated criticism as well.

Leafs are a contender. We aren't. For ~1/2 the game (3rd + large parts of the 1st) we were right there despite playing mediocre.

Leafs honestly looked a little tired if I'm being frank, seemed like their legs weren't quite there anymore in the third period. Back to backs can do that.

Won't excuse the dogshit levels of effort from key players.

It's probably best they don't make a forced trade. They should be identifying guys though who they don't believe will be around in a year or two and that includes younger players. Would be nice to make a hockey trade or two for players not draft picks.

Can you elaborate?
Something triggered a "f*** This" effect coming out of the pre-season.
I can only speculate but the Greig-Dach Xhekaj affair could be the catalyst.
The players had Arber's back 100% after the fact the coach did not.
We've played one complete game all season against the Ottawa Senators.
Just a coincidence?
