WTF are you talking about? What age are you? Were you actually watching between 98 and 2002? They had a shitty team, but Koivu was never nonchalant, rarely ever took a night out. Left it out on the ice in every game I've watched him.

It's not narrative building when you compare two players and one was clearly more competitive.
The team sucked but the organization wasn’t tanking and encouraging losing. Far from it. The whole city was on Koivu’s back to carry us like he was Sundin.

Suzuki is dealing with a very different situation. It’s hard to look more competitive when the organization is not interested in such things.

Narrative building.

Koivu never had to deal with intentional losing. Suzuki can only do so much when the culture around the team is one of losing and no expectations.

Koivu had a much tougher time dealing with an entitled fans and a pitiful roster but the culture of the team was to try to do the best job possible. Suzuki, by comparison, is in a netherworld.
I agree that as a captain he is in a tough spot. And I remember plenty of games like the one today when Weber was a captain. That being said, I am not sold on Suzuki as the captain. Just a hunch, of course. The team is so rotten not one player, no matter how well endowed, can do much about it. I also think Suzuki is playing injured.

The only way to restart the team at this point is to fire St Louis is bring in a real coach. The type of coach that teams that consistently contend have... like Tampa, Florida, etc.

What changed from last year? So many injuries to deal with last year but they were in every game and never gave up. This year they're softer than baby shit. They just completely implode every game.

Embarrassing effort night in and night out. They're so fragile, MSL bag-skated them once and the team completely quit since.

Yeah, last year we lost the most one-goal games in NHL, and how many games did we take to OT? At least the games were close & generally competitive, but this is complete capitulation. We're getting rocked in every game.

It 2022 all over again.

Yeah, he had to deal with unintentional losing.

And that’s part of the reason why we sucked so bad for the better part of thirty years and we wasted his career.

The captain stuff is soooooooooooo overstated anyway.

Suzuki is quite literally the least of our problems. He can’t do more than he’s shown, so I don’t expect more from him. He’s not a topX centreman to carry a roster… he needs a committee of top players around him and he’ll do his part.

If everyone is dragging their feet and squeezing their sticks, there is nothing he can do. Not Weber nor Koivu nor any other captain. They’re there to help keep the rudder aligned, they’re not there to drag the weight of the whole ship (or tank).

lets just get through the season, dump the dead weight from the roster, and make some painful trades that improve us in the long term

is it just me, or does CC lose every board battle he gets in? I know he's small but damn we can't seem to maintain zone time when the other team strips it right off him when he goes to retrieve a dump in.

George Laraque suggeseting Gerard Gallant to help MSL...why not at this point.
Gallant konws less than St Louis.

Que on est une groupe fragile.

It's that kind of wisdom that he gets paid handsomely for. Gold!
What the hell do you expect him to say? And who cares since it is all irrelevant. He isn't going to say anything of importance.

I believe 3 goaltenders worked last season. With the number of quality chances they give up with all the young players, they had a fresh guy in there every game.

Less depth on the blueline. Harris, Kovacevic.

Sean Monahan made a difference, wasn't replaced, he's missed big time in my opinion.

Otherwise believe losing is becoming a habit. They work their backsides off and still lose. This is where management normally does something, will they do anything? We'll see if the team spirals.

Has to be this.

What’s the point of working your butt off to win if your coach and his bosses are not working their butts off to win? If the organization seems kinda really okay with backsliding into a tank… the players will feel it too. I figure anyway.

If the roster saw Hughes make some painful trade for the good of the roster, they’d perk up I figure. MSL has to make them believe he’s trying to find solutions too.

I won’t be surprised to see Marty get canned.

Just don’t know what other coaches are out there right now .

As Bieksa pointed out, team is still competing hard for him. Doubt he gets canned unless we see the players quitting...
