Dvorak is arguably worse. I'm extremely confident to say in 20 years when both players will have retired that JK will be by a non insignificant margin the better player. The big question mark over JK is his offensive potential. For a player his age he is already very mature defensively. At worse he will be the better defensive 3rd line player with a longer career and there's still a legitimate chance he develops as a 2nd line defensive player.
When we acquired Dvorak he was already locked to a middle six role imo since he was 25 (2 years and a half older than JK is now) and there was nothing more to him at this point of his career. Important to note that we gave more for Dvorak than we got for JK which is ridiculous.
The whole we could not give 6 millions to JK for a year was stupid. JK was never going to be extended to that amount unless he had a breakout year. It was not a surprise at all to see him extend to a similar contract than Dvorak after another 30 points season.
For JK we got Carolina's 1st round pick 2022 (27th overall) and Carolina's 3rd round pick 2022 (92th overall)
For Dvorak we paid Carolina's 1st round pick 2022 (27th overall) and Montreal's 2nd round pick 2024 (which should be around 35th overall to 40th overall)
That's a high price to pay for Dvorak. We paid the same for Newhook but Newhook is younger (22 and a half) so there's still hope he develops which was not the case for Dvorak at 25 and a half.
