Post-Game Talk: Habs lose to the Leafs. Fail to clinch.

Slaf can be so frustrating to watch. Drive the net damn it. Its tight games like these that his big body should be crashing the net creating space for others to shoot.
He was very good tonight, several shifts where he was the best forward on the ice which is damn impressive for a player his age against this type of opponent.

We "should" be in this spot precisely because we have an excellent coaching staff in place... They are overachieving externally, but internally, from the top to the bottom, they believe in what they accomplished and know the best is yet to come.
There are things to criticize MSL on. I don't understand the OT lineup tonight. That made no sense. Don't agree with Pazetta and I'd probably have X in the lineup.

But these are minor in the grand scheme of things. Overall he's done a really good job developing the team. He's overperformed almost every year... he's been really good.

He's been terrific at developing players. We've been better every year he's coached. We've overperformed most seasons... what's so hard to understand?

This is bullshit. Don't go to 'chez nous' stuff when the guy might well get Jack Adams votes.
Critiquing Marty for regularly putting out our two best face-off specialists to start OT is likewise an odd track to take.

It's not that bad. Who can blame the fans after the insane roller coaster of winning streaks and losing streaks this season. Monday is the trappiest of all the trap games we've had in recent days.
The odds are all still on our side but I'd rather be clinching than clenching. :sarcasm:
Philly is as a trap game, Boston was a trap game, many games have been trap games lately.

But I get it; fans are on edge hahaha!

Still, we’ll win.

This roster isn't a playoff roster. Saying MSL is doing a bad job implies this team would be higher in the standings, which I find is ludicrous.

I'd have had Hutson out there. I get that Matheson is a fantastic skater but so is Newhook. Does that mean you play him ahead of Suzuki?

It's not a terrible error but it's also not what I would've done.

If we lose to the blackhawks on Monday I'm going to lose my shit.

Nothing can ever be easy with this team. Fully expect it to come down to the last game of the season.
Before my Dad passed away I said it would either be this game (that my wife attended, but wore a habs jersey in respect for my dad as a leaf fan who busts my balls all the time) or the last one to see if the habs make the playoffs. If they do. I could see us upsetting washington "because anything can happen"-bergevin.

But I wish he had made it to see gretz record broken. We were never fans, talented guy, but never cared for him. Part of his success was that oilers team. Name me a guy on the Caps in 20 years outside of Backstrom that is likely in the hall of fame? I am drawing blanks compared to the 1980s oilers that won a cup without wayne. Doesn't take away from his crazy assists record at all. But we got to watch the most talented goal scorer in NHL history, that for much of his career was maligned for a number of reasons and not promoted half as much as he should have been. (Partly because of Cherry's' bigotry)

They won’t. They are probably laughing at that game. It’s pointless for them
I don't think coaches like to string together a couple of shit efforts going into the post season.
We've definitely seen it go sour for some teams who've tried that. You never know what philosophy a team will take in terms of when to rest and when to push. I think a good team has to do both as the string plays out.

Fail to clinch, but they eliminated the Wings and made it so the Jackets need to win all their games in regulation until the end.

Not bad.
Wrong. if habs had won in OT, Jackets would have to win all 3 in reg. Now they don't have to.

Honestly, it was a big point, now only the jackets can catch us. I think they lose tomorrow and we lock up WC2.

I really didn't think we deserved a point tonight. Best game from Dobbes in a long time. The boys look tired.

Hutson, in my eyes, is clearly our best player. He creates so much every shift, followed by Suzuki, and then the gap gets quite big. There's a lot of passengers on the ice right now, Slaf being the biggest flag, he lacked physical toughness when it was needed all night. We need a presence on that line, but he's easy to play against most nights. I think Laine is getting better but he's kind of slow to move the puck, and his legs, so now I'm wondering if it's just his legs or he likes the game slowed down.

If Xhekaj doesn't play in the next name it's probably because he called MSL short and said he had Napoleon complex. :sarcasm:
