Post-Game Talk: Habs lose third straight game. Jets run Habs out of Bell Centre.

He's the only one who made any plays on that line in recent games. Laine is turning the puck over every touch and Newhook blew every shot over the net.
Does not make him a nhl center, not close (and what plays?).. Newhook is on every puck forechecking like a madman using his speed, Laine is a pp specialist and a pp goal league leader. Dach? The only play I remember reminded me that rounded plastic bit on the stanchion sure works.

The Jets have learned their lesson from when we beat them in the post season.
Block out and let Hellybuyck see the puck. The only difference is they give their goaltender a ton more run support than we gave Price. Pain in the ass team to play against and they were missing their Captain Lowry who is a piece of work himself. They look like they are very close to having a Championship caliber team. Can you imagine if the Next Canadian team to win the cup was Winnipeg...

NAH
I will be rooting very hard for jets to crash and burn in the first round.

First off, sorry to be posting here with my avatar

Second, I'm a bit surprised by how negatively yall saw the game, I only saw the third and understand the second period was a stinker, but thought you guys had a really good final frame against a very good opponent. Hemmed them them in like I haven't seen many teams do to Winnipeg this year and forced like 5 icings inside a few minutes. Creating good looks off it was an issue but there were some good chances off WPG turnovers which is gonna happen when you keep a team in their zone. That bang-bang tripping penalty or whatever it was helped the Jets find their feet again, but otherwise I thought the Habs were on a good track.

I know it's a bit of a random post to make on a opposing team's board but I was surprised to see so many sky is falling reactions in here so I thought I'd throw another perspective out there. À bientôt

Newhook surprises me at times. He's one of those guys that has games where you don't notice him and then others where his energy is way up and he does some nice things out there. It was noticeable last night.

What LD will he replace?

That is tricky. We have to ponder about the 23 man roster and if will we have 2 extra D and 1F or 2 extra F and 1D.

What do we do with these young pieces on D that will push to earn a spot? Someone is sitting and watching games. Do they share spots from game to game where you ride momentum (Xhekaj, Engstrom, Struble, Mailloux) or do we retain Savard and ensure our young guys are playing big minutes in the AHL. Time will tell.

Right now, it appears Struble is the one they will use as the depth piece. Injuries will happen as well but you never know if they are serious or not. Hard to plan around.

The "goon" can play well enough to stay in the bottom pairing while bringing toughness that no one in the organization can bring.
of course. Trying to answer your question is all. Do you feel current D corps is a cup contending one? Anyone outplaying a current roster player should get the spot. No more handouts, rehabbing on the job or wishful tanking for me.

Funny because I thought Gally was flying in the 1st half of the 1st period.
It didn't last but he looked good early on IMO
Yup he totally set the pace in the 1st, always moves the puck deep and is one of the very few players constantly does give and goes with Hutson for example.

I don’t understand why so many here pump up the young players based on some theoretical future output but keep downplaying how Gally, Evans, Anderson, Armia have bee totally rocking it and carrying the team all year.

No, the puck carrying, playmaking and everything else makes him a NHL center. What plays? How about the 3 times Newhook shot it off the bumper spot over the net, who was making the passes? Who carried the puck in and kept possession on the wall to make every play that line had last night?

Newhook is taking the majority of the draws as Dach goes to center after, so if you think Dach's face-off ability is having any impact on the line as a whole, it's a mis-analysis.

Rewatch the game and tell me one play Laine made that didn't connect with a Jets player.

Laine did not play well, that we agree. Not sure how that has to be zero sum. Dach is a winger, and a very low tier one so far in his 1st 6 years (yes, I know he’s always injured).

Come on. They may work hard but they are useless offensively.. Gallagher is done after 30 games. That puts the pressure on the top 2 lines to do all the scoring. If Suzuki's line has an off night Habs are done becuase Dach's line is not ready to carry the whole load on a given night.

I don't follow that last sentence. I saw Laine make a lot if plays last night to create scoring chances. Though I also saw him turn the puck over a few times. As usual I saw Newhook turn the puck over a lot.

I don't think the current D Corps is a contending one. There are some pieces in place that will be part of that core. Every GM in the league would want Xhekaj on their bottom pairing. Hutson of course is Hutson and his upside is elite. Not a top pairing guy but a top 4. Guhle is a top 4. Reinbacher is also a piece that could become integral to the future D Corps. Mailloux and Engstrom are excellent prospects for the future.
Carrier, Matheson and Savard are not part of the future D group that will contend. Maybe Carrier ends up on the 3rd pairing with Xhekaj. Currently the Habs don't have a future #1 Dman unless Reinbacher exceeds expectations

Carrier and Matheson will be part of the team for years unless someone makes an offer for Matheson HuGo can't turn down. Sadly Savard won't be unless they offer him a coaching job.

I kinda agree. I was at the game last night, and Habs dominated the first period, were dominated in the 2nd, and played very well in the third. They had all the momentum, hit posts, had many good chances and that momentum was cut short by a pretty BS penalty.

The difference last night was clear and it's that Jets buried more of their chances than the Habs did. It does come back to just raw offensive talent. Habs struggled a lot to generate offense without Hutson on the ice, and after the first line they really lack finish. Seeing Hutson send Anderson in breakaways really makes you think "man, if only it wasn't Anderson". Demidov should improve that significantly next year.

We clearly need 1-2 better offensive forwards, but we were against a top team in the league and really didn't look too outclassed for most of the game, final score doesn't reflect what the game looked like. Not getting any PP hurt too, need 2nd to 4th lines to at least force the other team to take penalties if they can't finish.

Disagree. It is that bad. Colleagues tell me even Saskatoon is Better. I lived in Winnipeg for a year and it was by far the worst place I've ever lived at. Did they clean the downtown core yet? It was like kensignton av lite in 2010.

Anyways, I see shots missing the net a lot. And bad dump ins that very quickly turn over. The whole roster has been derailed since Heineman went down. Even Armia is back to his old self.

Matheson clearly also started playing too much and it shows. At least the PK was good?
We can agree to disagree. I suggest skating the Red River, heading out to Assinaboine park, walk the forks or head to falcon lake.
I have been to Montreal great city but St. Catherine's is dirty and full of suspect inhabitants.

Matheson will turn 31 in february. He wont be part of this team for years. If he is the rebuild will be a failure. Matheson has maybe 2-3 good years left as a top 4 at most. After that he'll go the way of the Petry i.e. a cap dump if smeone is stupid enough to extend him past that expiration date.

In 2020 when all our fans were ready to keep and extend all our vets for 8 years despite us being 24th in the league I warned them that not every body is Jagr. And i was right. Petry and Gallagher unsurprisingly became cap dump soon after signing their extension. It was very predictablea and not a surprise to anybody who follow the NHL closely.

I'm calling it now if we extend our vets for multiple years it will be a mistake. We are not there yet.

The Winnipeg Jets was the 1st team this season to win 15 games of their first 16 games. 7 wins on road games.

Hellebuyck played 40 games this season. In 15 games, Hellebuyck conceded 0 or 1 goal.
