Slept on it , happy with the outcome , good performance. Allen needed to save those two stinkers , he is not a starting goaltender so I know thats asking for alot
Those 2 simple shots especially the 4th goal
Should have been saved 100% and that's nothing to ask

Wow tough crowd, especially on Savard and Matheson who each had to log 24+ minutes with Xhekaj spending almost an entire period in the box.

It's sad seeing what Gallagher has become, he plays with heart but it looks like his body is showing signs that he can't keep up at this level anymore. To think, he's locked up not only for this year, but for the following 3 seasons at $6.5million. If we wanted to buy him out, he'd cost $2.1mil against the cap until 2029/30. Thank you Bergevin.

Also, please don't touch that 2nd line of Newhook-Dach-Slaf
I said before the game that third line didn't make sense and we should have dressed 7D instead.
The Leafs were always going to go at Xhekaj. Lack of foresight by our coaching staff.

The most annoying part is that the 2 soft goals that Allen gave up were when we had control of the game, 2-0 and 5-3. The first one is a really, really shit goal to give, horrible. Once he gave that first one, the game did a full 180 in the wrong direction, everyone started to play bad scared of making mistakes and that Jakey would let anything in.
Exactly. If the bad goal doesn't go in, they don't come out with as much bite immediately after.

In terms of game management, the timing of the bad goals were both terrible.

He has a tendency to give those up. It does not matter that he made good saves in OT, the game should have never got there in the first place.

I like David Savard but no way should he be near a top pairing. At this point of his career he is a bottom pairing Dman.
I still think we have to use Matheson on the right side to get our best D pairings in place.

Matheson Ghule
Kovacevic Harris/WiFi
Savard Harris/WiFi

I'd prefer Kovacevic WiFi as our punishers on that second pairing.
Already I see a decent improvement in Arber Xhekaj's defending.
Give him the reps and he will grow into them.

Was a pretty fun game, with lots of positives. Was great seeing Xhekaj rag doll Reaves. Slaf looked great, as did that line as a whole and glad to see Newhook get on the board in his first game. I’ll be paying special attention whenever that line is on the ice, could be our new first line of things work out.

To be sure, AM never gets a hat trick if Danault is on the ice. The way the leafs pk covered CC is how we needed to cover AM with the net empty. I’ve not understood why Burrows was hired from the start.

whatever, new season, we are youngsters and looked surprisingly good tonight. Slaf looked great pressuring the puck & work along the boards.
Newhook looked like I thought he would (get used to it). Dach gonna be good. RHP looked good and he has some jam, kinda what Gally used to be. ylonen didn’t look out of place & what a goal. The sheriff stood up for Guhle getting boarded, love that. Barron would have been crucified today if he played like Harris. Just the facts.
all in all, I hate to lose. It’s going to be a year of tinkering with lines and d pairing so we’ll have to live with whatever MSL has up his sleeve.

I still like Newhook on #1 and Anderson on #2 Line. Wifi - Kova.
All the vets looked like they were sleeping…..Savard & Gally were more than a few steps behind. 2 goal leads, come on coach?

listening to these obviously homer Laff announcers is sickening and it boarders on conspiracies when the refs make strange calls, lol.
Go Habs Go.

Gallagher has to be bought out this summer. I mean it’s painful to watch at this point.
Unfortunately, his bought out result is very painful to watch at as well and there is 6 years of it.

And can just be the 13th/14th forward instead.

In this writer’s opinion, as we have seen this preseason and against the Leafs last night, Abner is more valuable to the team on the ice than in the penalty box. His skills, and the impact of same, are growing each game. His mere presence is enough to deter other teams. You can see how much his teammates admire him. Once Gallagher and Monahan moved on, he is a certain Assistant Captain. He’s come a long way from stocking shelves in Costco.
Our scouting department needs to scour every Costco in North America, who knows how many more hidden gems are lurking there lol.

I lurk by the hotdogs and ice cream there. Gimme a chance Habs!

So even though they lost did the Habs at least get the moral victory?:sarcasm:
Never gets old! Lol.

I cannot tell a lie, I concur. Although I'm an ice-cream pig. I can't bring it home or it's all gone right away. But legit soft serve like that is delicious.

Legit soft serve was also my nick name in high-school. Unfortunately it was not ice-cream related. :boredom:
I have been told that they don't dilute or water down their cream which makes the ice cream so good, I don't think I've ever had better.

The offside on Caufield's first goal was so,so,so soft, might as well call an interference on the Leaf skating backwards.
Kinda makes me miss the good ole NHL that used to be a lot more relaxed regarding offsides.

Oh well, OT loss to the greatest team ever assembled (or was that last years?) is no bad start.

They're supposed to be a cup contender? Lol
Barely edging us in a shootout? Needing 2 emtpy net goals to tie us?

In contrast, we were supposed to be a bottom 5 team this year, our 4th line scored 2 goals on them lol
Tarana aint going nowhere again predictably

It'll be fun to see if our offense can give other teams a run for their money, our big gunners didn't even play all that well in CC and zukes
Savard can't play 24 mins every night
And I honestly truly believe montembeault is a better goaltender, we probably win that one 5-3 with him
