Post-Game Talk: Habs Lose in Shootout

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I'm sure Anderson would like his goal and point totals to be better this season but the guy was a wrecking ball out there tonight to start this game and for pretty much this entire season really.

Sometimes fans really need to look past the scoring stats and appreciate everything else a player brings to his team every night. Andy as played some very good hockey for the Habs this season game in and game out.
I think the fans got down on Andy last year because not only wasn't he scoring. He didn't bring that "wrecking ball" style that we've seen him play this season. If he continues to play this way. I think you'll continue to see the negative talk about him, fade away.

Habs 0/6 on the PP but 59.6% on the dot.
PP has been a sore point for me for the past few games. WAY to static. On the second PP today, there was a moment when Laine was literally just standing. Like still. NOT moving. Not gliding, or swaying or anything... just standing like a rigid statue. Unreal.

Habs are usually pretty active in the O-zone when they got the possession and for some reason it completely changes on PP. I don't get that.

I'll throw Newhook into the same category. I've gotten on Newhook a few times this season for his lack of finish but he's still an effective player out there.

If only though he could just finish just a few more of his what seem like numerous scoring chances every game he'd likely score 25+ goals every season with his speed.
This is the Newhook that was beginning to emerge last season before he got hurt.
His puck retrieval in restrained areas and his flat out speed are awesome.
Can we give him Joshua Roy's touch.

I've watched your game. Congratulations on the win, what you did was great.

  • Slafkovsky is a beast, he wins fights, plays great in front of the net, at the boards, has good forechecking. As a Slovakian, I'm happy for his game. Actually because of him I watched 2/3 of the game and the last one in the record.
  • Caufield has problems with hard play, forchecking, duels.
  • I like Newhook more as a center. He creates space for his teammates with his speed and aggressiveness. Personally, I wouldn't rush to sign a new center. He may not be a TPO 2 center, but he helps teammates improve their game.
  • I like Roy a lot. He has great hockey IQ, technique, uses partners (which can't be said for Dach).
  • Laine is playing very well. Of course, shooting and passing in 5v5 are not yet what they were in CBJ (only 50-60%), but he is faster, has very good forechecking and minimum in this and last game he uses his body perfectly, he wins most of the fights (I counted it), he was worse in that in the CBJ.
  • Btw, this line plays well under pressure, taking all players.
  • Dvorak is the perfect 3rd center. In my opinion it would be a mistake to trade/not sign him. He defends very well, has a pretty decent hockey mindset, and can take advantage of partners.
  • Anderson plays like he's in the CBJ. Gallagher is a warrior.
  • Hutson is a TOP defenseman. I like Xhekaj and Struble as well though. I'm curious to see how your coach will address the defensive pairings once Guhle returns.
After what I've seen I'm convinced you'll advance to the PO. This showcase against COL... . On the one hand I wish it for you, on the other... you would be our main competitors. So I don't know ... 🤔🙂

This might be minor but... Habs are terrible at both the OT and the SO. You can't be bad at both man. So many OT points lost from sucking at both. Also... Didn't Habs hire a shooting coach? Missing the net leaders is not a good stat to have..

I just know the solution!

I noticed that. The Av's simply moved their defenseman a little higher. Which totally took Laine out of the play.

Dvorak was fine at SO. You put the hot hands. That’s how you coach. Nothing against the choice.

Whining about this game is ridiculous. They tied a much superior team after falling behind 1-4. In the 3rd!

They didn’t lose a point; they won one.
By that logic it should have been Slaf... afterall he scored 2 tonight. Shootout is a crap shoot, no doubt, but you gotta try and maximize your chances. Slaf, Hutson, Gally, even Roy should go ahead of Dvo. And I love Dvo... I want him re-signed for another 5 years :D

I don't think the Laine Caufield redundancy is helping. We really need another lefty on it IMO.
