I don't think he would've done much to be honest besides wearing a shiny suit and fedora walking into the rink
On his own, it may not have been enough but then again he could have acted as a deterrent with goons like Noesen having to be aware that there might be retribution if he tried a head shot.

There needs to be deterrence built in as a team building concept. We can’t hope to make it with an over abundance of simpleton, good guy softies.

Where was everyone one else when the hit happened to the team’s 19-year old 1st rounder who had been playing like one?

What’s the point of rostering talent if you can’t protect it? Gorton should have learned that lesson from his NYR days.

Still don't understand why there was no call on that high stick against the hab's guy and why teh whistle was bl
If he was on the ice when that happened you can be damn sure he would have done something about it. Slaf is his boy.
I hope you're right....wasn't seeing much the last few weeks he was with the team

If you bring Arber up, what do you do with Struble? Struble has been our best dman.

Guhle has not been playing well the past month. Have to call a spade a space. I think Barron has a lot to do with it.
The Guhle Barron pairing is complete dog shit and has been every since it was put together.
Guhle Struble would suite me just fine.

I don't know who the defense pairing were on the ice at the time of the hit. Sadly besides Anderson, we have no forwards who can be expected to stand up for their team mates.
That's why I'd stop the Pezzetta experiment. If he's not gonna be thrown on the ice right after that hit, why do we dress him. It's not like he's got a particular skill that no other player has. Waste of a spot.

I would put Savard back with Guhle. Then play Matheson on his right side with Struble. That leaves Harris / Jackeye with Kovacevich.
Not a chance in hell would I put Matheson on that right side.
He needs to continue trying to learn how to play more consistent mistake free hockey on the left side.

That happens a lot sadly with energy type players. They have a little success, and kind of forget what it was that got them to the big show.

Maybe this is the catalyst that gets them to bring Arber back up. Silver linings?
Silver linings would be Slaf coming out of this OK and a trickle down message to management that these kind of headhunting shots are likely to happen again and that they can only roster so many smallish, soft players in their rebuild stratagem.

Matheson will never be able to play mistake free hockey. So may as well accept that and put him on his offside to play high-risk mistake ridden hockey.

The Avs drafted both Barron and Timmins and traded both away and acquired 2 very key parts for their cup win in Kuemper and Lehky.

Both guys play a very similar game where they can both provide offense from the backend but both are absolute train wrecks defensively so a very good trade for the Avs on both.

LOL Pezzetta doesn't scare anybody. That pinky finger shot of him in his car has made the rounds don't kid yourself.

I think there is no message that gets through to this coaching staff or management. They are just another good boys buddy-buddy country club. Rebuild is over folks. It wasn't even fun while it lasted. Welcome back to the dread of mediocrity.
