Post-Game Talk: Habs lose 4-1 to Canes

It’s not pathetic, they’re burnt. I saw that against Colorado. That was their last hurrah. But mentally, they’re spent.

Calling them pathetic is pathetic. This is not a playoff team, it’s still a rebuilding team. They have punched over their class weight since December.
As Metallica said….Sad but true.

Habs record after 72 games:

Last year: 28-32-12 for 68 points with 200 goals for and 246 against
This year: 33-30-9 for 75 points with 216 goals for and 244 against

The number that stands out for me is the goals against. Seems like one of the stated goals before the season was to bring that total down. A reminder that there is still a ways to go.

I read a couple of posts from a Leafs fan today saying that when the pressure went up the Habs started choking and folding. I guess he should know since if anyone is qualified to be an expert on a team choking and folding under pressure it's a Leafs fan. :DD
As much as I'd love to, I don't think we are in position to make fun of any other team. Even the leafs.

Number one goalie should still be at the top of the list. We should know Monty’s full potential by next season. Is Fowler going to get a chance next season?

Just got done watching the end of the CBJ/VAN game and THIS is what desperation hockey looks like. Habs were nowhere near the level of either team since the Avs game.

As I was watching that game, I was asking myself how many Habs players are currently in their physical prime? You could say Suzuki is just entering it, Evans, Dvo, Carrier, who else? I guess you can add Matheson because he's a physical freak. I'd put Laine too but he's coming of an injury, so he doesn't count. That's a lot of young and old legs out there. Not looking for excuses, but it's just a thought.

Another thought is that, if it's the Habs that have to be out for Columbus to sneak in, I'm cool with that. Not to get spooky, but it looks like the spirit of Gaudreau that was energizing Caufield had to make a decision between his good buddy and his teammates going for a miracle run hehe.

Best case scenario is Columbus wining their 3 remaining games against Ottawa plus Habs winning their 1 game to make them sweat and who knows, maybe a final late push from the Habs have them sneak in too.

They tried to speed up the rebuild by giving up picks 13th, 31st, 37th and 66th for 3rd line players after finishing with a winning % of .335 and .415, but can’t give up middle picks to help the team when “In da mix”, and why are they playing Matheson 25+ minutes and Xhekaj 3 minutes a game if they are rebuilding?
Almost as dumb as the Bergevin Era.

That was so funny the game before, the Blues. Once they get the puck in neutral zone they drop and chase but their forward pressure is so a&w walking bear.
1 player shoot the puck deep in the corner
Are you coming?
Yeah yeah I'm coming !

Big Bear goes to the corner, his booty giggling with the music, dododo dum,

I'm coming I'm coming !

I mean, the forward pressure to chase the puck was so dawn slow, the def had 2 good options, almost have enough time to light a cigarette and texto his gf. This and the worst defensive zone coverage and easy shots on our g.

When I look at some of the top young goaltending prospects, seems they take years to establish themselves in pro hockey (Askarov, Knight, Levi...). Even if Fowler is signed soon, could be years before he's ready to play a significent role in the NHL. I'm interested to see what if anything they do in net this summer, considering how the backup position has gone lately and remembering the Askarov rumours last season.

I see excuses. They were a playoff team, losing 5 in a row after being in control of their playoff destiny, including a loss to the Flyers couldn't be more pathetic.

Not surprised. This is the team some people thought would be able to compete in the playoffs...

Excuses could go the other way too... You aren't a playoff team until the end of the 82nd game of the season, or if you clinch earlier.

They've had more losing streaks than winning streaks. The offense is what made the last winning streak, and clouded the poor goaltending. Now, that's not the case, the offense went back to normal, a 1 line show, easy to contain, with mediocre goaltending.

Team is still quite a few pieces away from being a true "in the mix" team.

We're only a few point ahead of 11th overall for the draft.... We were borderline "in the mix" because of some uncharacteristic scoring. We've always been nearer to the bottom half of the league.
