They've drafted 31 times in the last 5 years, that is 6.2 times per year.

How many playoff teams are doing that?

Blame him for finally having some players knocking on the door of the NHL too.

He was given a terrible prospect pool, now, ours is respectable for a playoff team.
Dig a little deeper!

You can blame boy wonder for bleeding all these assets for one measly playoff series win.
They haven’t drafted full classes, which was a mistake.

Because they hit on first round talent in round 2 instead of round 1?

Not sure what you are getting at.

They've drafted in the 1st round in 3 of the last 5 years as well.

Outside of the first round they have Greb, Minten, Hildeby, Knies, and Niemela.

The prior two years outside of the first they have Robertson, Durzi, and Holmberg.

This is good drafting for a playoff team.

I honestly have no clue what you're talking about.

We know you don’t understand. That’s been obvious for years.

Holmberg showed growth last night.
Good on face-offs, and tied with marner for SH/TOI.
Perhaps they have their replacement for ...

Habs outhit Leafs 26-13.
Leafs outshoot Habs 34-17.

Tanev got crushed in the corner ... need a little more physical response from the Leafs.

Leafs need to find someone to shoot on the PP.

Yeah but it's only true if you pay attention to it.

Try tuning it all out and just watch the games, you won't even care about what others think anymore and be happier for it.

Oh I never did….I used to troll on YouTube with the handle “LeafsNet” on Sportsnet highlight videos.

I’d usually write after every Leafs win “Yes that’s right folks, another great win by Canada’s team”.

I feed off other people raging. Haha.

Womp womp….Tavares is out day-to-day with an upper body injury.

For as long as I can remember, Montreal has been running Leafs players. I still remember how they ran Reimer in net and took him out. He was never the same after that injury.

Then Tavares during 2021….

The Habs farm team last night outhitting the Leafs opening night roster by 50% was what stood out for me, with a new coach that likes big heavy physical North South style hockey.

If they can trade Kampf for picks, I would do it.

Just give Holmberg the 4C spot, and Dewar is in the pressbox as the 13th forward to provide coverage.
Minten is going to be vying for a C spot next year, and can be called up in emergencies this year.
Kampf will become expendable sooner or later, if not already.

Yeah it didn't seem like Montreal had the puck very much.

Habs fan here, we didn't. Personally, I thought the game went about how i expected it to. Habs iced an AHL team, Leafs had pretty close to their opening day roster, so I figured it was going to be very one sided, and it was. I was pleased that the Habs young D and Dobes kept it close, but the ice was very tilted.

I didn't even notice Liljegren much last night which is actually a good thing.
It was against a AHL lineup but both OEL/ Lilly had solid games.
These two players are very crucial if we want to have a strong defence this year.
Only 2 games so can't take much info, but you can get a small idea of usage. Liljegren is being used on the PK while OEL gets the 2nd PP. Even Lilly's zone starts lean on the defensive but again early

No, he played very well last night.
0 points. 0 shots. 0 fights or response. 16.6 xGF% (second worst on the team). Looked visibly bad and struggling with plays and positioning all night. While playing sheltered against AHLers. If that's a "very good" night for Reaves, well that just shows why he shouldn't be on the team.

Habs dressing a defense with everyone 23 and younger did hold up, and young Lane Hutson likely the best player on the ice for both sides. That kid looks like he is going to be a Star.

My Leafs starting roster minus Matthews should have dominated this game, and worst case scenario came away with injuries to both key players Nylander and Tavares in the process.

Definitely more questions than answers on the Leafs side ..

Leafs fired double the shots 31-17 but many were from distance and low percentage, with just a handful of high danger scoring chances.

Leafs shot chart.

I can't imagine they're happy with a 2-1 victory, not against that lineup. High danger scoring chances were 5-4 in favor of the Leafs, which probably isn't the result they were looking for.

Not to mention all the fans that want to go for it, every trade deadline
It does seem like 99% of people here always want to upgrade at the TDL as we're in "win now" mode. This goes as far back as the first year we barely made the playoffs and people wanted to keep JVR as our "own rental".

I generally don't like to say "it's the same people complaining" as it's not like I keep a list or anything but considering the number, I'd say it has to be many of the same people. ;)

Has it really hurt them though? It isn't like they missed out on Scott Niedermayer.

Imagine we never traded a 1st round pick, like it was a rule for this team.

It rarely does any good to trade one IMO. Maybe 1 in 3 play NHL games (the picks I mean) but I'm sure 2 or 3 over a 10 year span end up being more impactful than a deadline add that doesn't push the needle up at all.

Oh god, the "own rental" thing. Who invented that term? It was either the Leafs GM at the time, or the Toronto media?

What a stupid way to say "we're gonna keep this asset who we could easily aquire assets for, fail to get out of the first round, and lose this asset with nothing coming in"

I think fans forget how bad our prospect pool was here before Dubas and how bad we were at drafting.

Dubas made mistakes no doubt. But he did help setup one of the best developing programs in the NHL and a very good scouting team.
I think fans think that drafting in the NHL is like the NFL when its more like the NBA. Its hard to make the NHL as a 1st rd pick let alone all the other rounds.

Assets were bled for all those years to make a run, never made a serious run. Now no assets left, or very little. Someone is to blame. If you don’t want to blame Dubas for “going for it” then blame the players for not getting it done. People defend this core to no end, but aren’t they at fault then? I can't believe how so many fans worship these guys for accomplishing dick all.
