In any case, Suzuki has not yet gotten close to a Selke and has not finished a season PPG. He is certainly a gem and our best player but there are many gems across the league.

The Habs need Reinbacher and Demidov to hit and then still more to be a on-paper Cup fav. Anything short of that leaves us perennially behind the magic 8-ball.

We forget how stacked some teams have been in recent years. Every Cup Winning team had serious skill and depth.

We have Demidov & Laine is in our wheelhouse too. We’ll have the offensive talent we need,

I really wanted the Habs to acquire Laine and I knew this season wouldn’t be perfect for him but hoped the following season would be lights-out. We’re on track. He’s a special talent for sure and precisely the kind of player to whom I referred.

That’s a seriously potent nucleus of high-end talents. They’d be immediately supported by Guhle, whoever wins the goalie battle, and Slafkovsky (if he decides to move his feet).

That’s a team.

RD is a question mark and it remains to be seen if Reinbacher will be the guy. I don’t think it’s fair to expect that from him at this time. We’ll see how and how fast he recovers.

Adding another two-way C like Suzuki would be a dream. If we can get him without trading away Hage, it’ll be great.

Not every team, but almost every team has gems. The difference is in the number of gems they have and how they build the team culture. Buffalo had gems and squandered them or broke them but you’re high if you think eg Dahlin isn’t a gem.

People don't realize Patrice Bergerons career high in pts is 79 lol, Nick had 77 last year, pacing for 80+ this year
And his career high in G was 32, Nick had 33 last year

There's more to #1 centers than 100 points...

They are barely in a playoff spot for several reasons. It took 30+ game to adapt to the new defensive strategy. They were weak on defense until they added Carrier who solidified then defense. And they didn't have a 2nd line until Dach got back to form and Laine returned. It had nothing to do with Suzuki and Caufield.

Hutson has emerged nicely, as much as people are down on Slafkovsky for his performance this season the potential is still very much there based on last season, we have Demidov in the wings, we have good young goalies in the pipeline, Reinbacher is hurt but could fill a big role. We still have work to do but things are starting to come together.

How are they flawed if they sat in the room and said, these are the players we are targeting and really want.

We project Mesar won't be available in round 2. We project Beck won't make it into the late 2nd round and we think Hutson will be there at the end of round 2.

Then they went out and executed on that vision and got all 3 players.

I just think it's a really silly argument to say they were somehow negligent by taking Hutson where they did. They projected and got him. They also got two other prospects they really liked in the process. I would say that deserves to be applauded rather than talked about like some derelict action that speaks to some level of incompetence. It actually speaks to competence and really strong intelligence gathering.

Again, please stop putting words in other posters’ mouths. What’s « sllly » is you inferring that I claimed they were « negligent ». And now you’ve ramped the accusations up to the level of derelict action and incompetence.

Hutson's play in OT was a great example of why, if he avoids career altering injury, this kid is on his way to an elite, HOF worthy career...

Particularly the last 2 possessions.
- goes aggressive to keep the puck in the ozone
- gets knocked down on a play that would be a penalty if he were bigger... The non-call and his inability to keep his footing both tied to his stature.
- waste no time mad or frustrated, shows only determination and elite compete mindset in bouncing back up and getting in a position to disrupt the odd man Rush
- plays excellent positional defense and shows tremendous instinct in timing his play on the pass... Kills the attack and creates the transition that eventually leads to the game winner

Skill
Instinct
Compete

A mix of elite "intangibles", technical execution and tactical reads.... Few players period have that mix, let alone 20 year old rookies.

Combine all that with a workhorse approach to training, and you have the ingredients of a HOF career.
