Monty may have made me a believer after tonight. It was the first game I saw him show any kind of fire. You could tell he wanted this one bad. The celly after the win was everything.

Can we PLEASE stop throwing Mike freaking Matheson over the boards in crucial situations? The guy is legitimately a walking goal against at this point. It's driving me nuts. How do you win a draw in OT with 10 seconds left on a powerplay and almost lose? It'd be comical if it weren't so infuriating.

his athleticism and battle is what impresses me. you can teach technique but if you don't have the raw athleticism the ceiling is lower

Looks really unfazed by MTL media/pression too, as a Franco on top of that.

Last year in some Habs social media clip a player (don't remember who) said that the guys often play with a soccer ball for pre-game warmups and that Monty was the only goalie they ever saw play with them / horsing around before a game.

Off the draw, puck to MM - 2 went to net front (like old school umbrella off each post), CC to the left, Matheson at the helm.

Looked like they were setting up CC for the shot with screeen / tip / rebound.

Matheson telegraphed (rushed) the pass to CC, and the chase was on.
It's shocking how bad some of his passes are. Earlier in the game he had Suzuki on the half wall maybe about 7 feet away no pressure and wide open.
He missed his stick by two feet. Suzuki recovered but say good bye to any time and space you are hoping to create. I don't get how some of our top players can't execute such basic plays. Meanwhile other teams seem to be able to make those plays with their eyes closed.

He’s playing better but in OT … I think putting players that are able/not scared of shooting the puck on net … is not stupid no…

Monty est beau

Sorry my french pronunciation is not so good :sarcasm:
Do we have anyone better for single handedly creating turnovers.
Correct me if I am wrong but we had one player in the entire game who was able to beat the Rangers D one on one and he did it twice.
Time to give him more rope. We are supposed to be developing not pulling points out of our assholes.

Because our top players are 2nd liners/top4s on real good teams. We don't have a real bonafide, ppg+ 1st liner. Caufield/Suzuki are 2nd liners on Colorado or Dallas or Tampa or Toronto...

We don't have real #1/#2 dman. Maybe Guhle gets there. Maybe Mailloux or Huston get there. But right now Guhle/Matheson are #3-4 on a real good contender.

This team is just really, really bad. And really, really young.

It's been stale for a very long time now. Either way Slaf has to play with one of Suzuki or Monahan.
I don’t think Slaf has to play with a centre in OT, it’s not like they will ice the puck. I’d like him with someone speedier. I think he could work with Newhook once he’s back and maybe even Ylonen for now.

Nah man, the Rangers defense was literally gifting 5 star chances to the Habs all night.

A better team than the Habs would have put this game out of reach before any OT.
I don’t know what game you were watching, but the Rangers had 50 shots against us and controlled the puck in our zone for up to two minutes on several occasions. The final score flattered us.

Despite a few defensive miscues, the Rangers showed they are a strong (if not the strongest) contender for the Cup. They’re big, fast, skilled and deep. Its going to take a very strong team to beat them in a seven game series. I haven’t seen that team yet.

That's par for the course for montreal. They are not good.

The rangers were serving muffins all night, though. I don't know why they were so careless in their own end. So many chances for montreal to put the game out reach on inexplicable turnovers.

If anything, this game only reinforced my idea that the rags are pretenders in the context of cup frontrunner.

Hey, nice win, back to .500 halfway through season. Habs only a Kirby Dach away from playoff picture. Rangers best team in East, Habs are getting close.

Montembeault stole us the win, 46 stops. Slaf I thought played strong game again
Gallagher where that come from. He should shoot more often from slot. He has good release. Monahan played like he did first 10 games in season Could tell his presence more in lineup. Stepped it up more with Dvorak injury seems like.

Slaf is much faster than Caufield. The reason MSL plays him the way he does is because in OT you need to shoot when you have an opportunity.
Yeah right. Do you honestly think he wouldn't shoot if the opportunity arises.
You also have to create that opportunity in the first place.
Play him with Nick or play him with Monahan but play him.
