If PP2 is outplaying PP1, make some moves to get PP1 better and play them for 1:30.

Personally, that's what I would first try :

PP1 :

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Hutson Matheson

PP2:

Armia - Dach - Gallagher
Guhle - Newhook

But eventually end up with :

PP1 :

Caufield Dach Slaf
Hutson Suzuki

PP2:

Armia - Newhook - Gallagher
Guhle - Matheson

Kapanen subs in for whoever doesn't work

Given his work ethic, I have a hard time thinking he'd let himself go. I think it was more a case of injuries and the impact of the history of them on his style of play. He was never fast, but he was visibly labouring for the bulk of last year.
Yeah this is what I meant. The conditioning is related to his injury health

It’s 2024, bro. NHL teams only use ONE d-man on the PP, whether it’s PP 1 or 2.

For the Marty critics, found on the Sens GDT:

Which would come as no surprise to any canucks fans.

Good game, the boys have come to work this year.

Guhle continues to be a stud out there!
I was a little concerned about Barron & AX pairing but they held their own. I’d still like to see Struble rotating in.
Hutson? I’m running out of adjectives, so happy he’s a Hab.
Man oh man the way Brady T was running after Hutson I thought this could be big trouble if he cheap shots our golden boy….Xhekaj would definitely get suspended for the beat down.
CC looking so comfortable out there, hes going to have a special year.
Monty easing his way into a solid #1, with Dobes & later Fowler goaltending looking healthy.
Can you imagine if we sneak into the playoffs with Demidov & Laine!!!
Cheers

How long have we waited to have skilled 6'4 C with some bite again?

Malkin was dogshit on faceoffs and still isn't good. You don't remove a player from his natural position just because of draws. Faceoffs are one of the easiest things to improve on, I'm not worried Dach will get to a respectable % at some point.

In the meantime, they can always put Kapanen next to him to take them when not on his strong side.

Malkin was at 48% last year.

Kirby Dach was 38% 2 seasons ago.

He needs to MASSIVELY improve if he wants to be a centre.

To be fair to Dach, Dvorak hasn't been the best this season, but he's usually over 50%

Slaf leads the Habs in hits. I wasn't expecting that.

Also, while everyone keep saying the 1st line isn't doing anything. The top 5 players on the ice for goals for on the Habs are (all strengths):
Guhle 7 GF 1 GA
Hutson 5 GF 0 GA
Slaf 4 GF 0 GA
CC 4 GF 1 GA
Suzuki 4 GF 2 GA

Average age: 22 years old.

At 6th you have Anderson: 4 GF and 3 GA.
At 7th, Matheson with 3 GF and 4 GA.
Then a bunch of players with 2 GF 2 GA...

While this is true; what is unclear is how much the better results are because of improved or better play from the Canadiens defenders or the massive size and physicality difference between the Boston forward group and Ottawa's.

The Bruins had nine forwards who were 6'3 or larger, the Senators have three.

I didn't see the Bruins game. I heard we were outplayed. But was most of us being outplayed really us being out cycled and the Bruins being on the periphery? Most of their goals (4 or 5) were stinkers from the periphery that Primeau could have had.

The bruins got blasted the night before against Florida. They were hungry.

Meanwhile the habs were traveling on the back to back and playing their backup after a win in the first game.

You could see the result coming from a mile away.
