If Emil is out for some time and they don't want to disrupt Laval, I'd be down for adding a cheap winger on waivers or trade. I don't want to see Pezz dressed just to play 5 minutes. It doesn't help him or the team.
We'll be ok

Emil's 4 weeks initial prognosis will end and coincides with the beginning of the 4 Nations tourney
So he will be getting an extra 2 weeks to heal/Rev up
And we should see him when we come back February 22nd

There's almost a zero percent chance he re-signs with the habs. They'd probably want to do as you said but Armis is probably thinking that this is the last big contract he can get at the age of 32. He could probably get 4x4 at the very least on the open market which is more than the habs should even think about potentially giving him
This is what people aren't understanding about the Armia situation lol

You don't GET the 'big contract(for him)' from Bergevin after the Cup run

NOT live up to it (for the most part)

Get sent down to the AHL twice last season

Nobody trades for you at last years TDL

And THEN get a raise...
Doesn't work like that lol

Armia can be had for something like 2yrs x 2.5M, and he is most likely back for a couple more years as we're on the upswing from the bad times

(Coincidentally, most of what I just said can apply to Laine too btw, he GETS the 8.7M yr contract and it's 3 years later, and you can argue 'hasn't lived up to it', but we also know for so and so and so reasons, there is TOTALLY a universe where Laines next contract is under 8.7M/yr but people have a hard time understanding the actual contexts of these things)

Evans is the 3rd line center.

At one point you have to give young players games. Having Beck or Kapenen centering Gallagher and Anderson on a 4th line next year is actually ideal. Make no mistake Gallagher will be 33 next year and Anderson 31. Those two guys are not going to make a good 3rd line moving forward they will be the 4th line until their contract runs out. Evans, Heineman and Newhook (who will be pushed down by Demidov) will be the 3rd line.

Bringing in a kid in the NHL on a 4th line with two vets is an ideal situation imo. If Both Beck and Kapanen doesn't work you can make a rental move later in the season for a vet 4th line center. It's not like a struggling 4th line center for half a year will push us out of the playoffs. If it does then the team ain't good.

If you look at the dominating teams they are constantly bringing in kids. Either because of a lack of cap space to extend vets or because vets are getting too old. And the teams who fail to do that (Pens, Avs lately) will eventually falter. Why did the Bruins stays relevant for so long. Because of Carlo, MacAvoy, Pasternak, Sawyman, ... why are they struglling right now? Because they have nobody to replace Bergeron, Krejci and soon Marchand. Why Caps are still relevant? Because of Protas, McMicheal, Sandin.
I agree with your Bruins and Cap example. All depends of the quality teams have in hands to replace their vet. So you think Beck is ready to replace Dvorak if he leave at the tdl? Maybe, but it's a bit risky, Who is 100% sure he can fill the spot? His production in ahl shows a dominant player who can make the step into nhl?

Evans being a 3rd or 4th center is semantic, both lines have about the same ice time. Anderson paid 5,5, Gally 6,5 and Dvo 4,5, that makes a 16,5 m 4th line. Like some quebecers might say : "astie ça fa dur". That's a lot of f** money, we should expect a 2nd line at this price and a production of pts. Lately they play ok but I want more and more. I have high standards, that's me.

Yup
Odds are they will call up another more 'bottom 6' fitting guy or even Beck again himself

They are clearly at a point they'd rather NOT play Pezzetta

And if 'WE're' aware most of these upcoming games a huge
*They* do as well
Laval also with a very heavy schedule and lots of injuries. I'm not sure how easy it will be to rotate players in and out. I'm not too keen on using a kid B2B2B.

Anytime we can stick it to that obnoxious pouting prima donna Doucherov is a great night. What a glorious victory!! Can't wait until we pass them in the standings ;)

Beck don't think yet. But Kapanen will be 22 next season which is just one year younger than Protas and McMicheal were at the beginning of the year. He got lot of pro experience in Europe too. Not sure if the SHL is a bit better or a bit worse than the AHL but it's probably not too far off. He had a good rookie camp and looked good the first two games of the camp. I think with one more year of exp he'll be more ready he knows what to do now.

I think having Kapanen on the 4th line again next season (like at the beginning of this year) to see what we got would not be terrible at all. If it doesn't work you can send him in the AHL close to the deadline and acquire a 4th line center rental (they are usually cheap i think Torrey Mitchell cost was a 7th round pick).

Then you can try again the following year with 23 years old Kapenen or 22 years old Beck. I believe in both kid i think one of them at least will develop into a solid bottom 6 center before the age of 24. Yes Dvorak's line play only about 1 minutes less than Evans but it's still technically by TOI the 4th line. Yes salary wise it's hum .... kind of pathetic ... Hintz, Robertson and Wyatt Johnson are paid 17.094 combined. Yikkies. But it's just one more argument to bring in a kid on the line XD

Moving Guhle back to his natural position and Wifi maturing also.
Xhekaj has been playing fine 3rd pair hockey with Savard and shown much better decision making and restraint. It shows when defensemen are mature. Look at how effective Carrier is.

If X can be just as good as Carrier but keeps bringing his physical aspect to the game in due time, we're set for the next 10 years on 3rd pair left.

Pezz should be waived to send him in the AHL. He'd help the team there and get back to shape. It'd be best for him in the end.

Say he gets a few good points making sure there at least is a correct AHL contract for him next season, wherever. He does'nt deserve not to play but he does'nt deserve to play with the CH at the moment.

I guess you have watched him?

Thanks for the update

...I have...and I don't hate on the kid, I hope he goes on to a successful NHL career with Nashville...he has talent offensively, there's no doubt, but his defensive instincts are almost non-existent and he still makes egregious rookie-level mistakes often (quite often, if you want to get picky) and the Habs needed to move on from him & grab someone who could shore up the backend instead...

I'm fairly certain Owen Beck can replace what Dvorak brings to the table by next season.
I'd rather send Beck up once he begins to dominate in the AHL, which hasn't been the case yet. We have so many other players who are older and need a spot too (Newhook in bottom 6 when Demidov gets here, Kapanen, possibly others) that it's not a rush to need Beck right away if he's not outgrown the AHL by then.

I doubt more than three of those will be options, and two of those three will end up being expensive in short order.
I'm not sure I see a spot for Roy unless he can improve the pace of his game. Mailloux will take a while to improve his defense (if he can actually get it to NHL level) and Engstrom will probably not get a roster spot unless he shows that he can play RD. Hage will play next season in the NCAA and then he's probably ready for the NHL (if not a small stint in the AHL; the offense is not a problem, but they might want him to work on his defensive game). Kapanen could possibly make the team but they might also want to see how he does in the AHL first (unless he dominates all of preseason; this season he was only really great in the rookie camp portion).

Demidov is the only one who is obviously making the Habs next season.

There's a few players who deserve a call up, so i wonder if they're bringing them up for a game, or two to show their hardworking is being recognized.

Or they're just putting Pezzetta back in
I think they'll do both, Pezzetta will get some and the young AHL players as well to be rewarded for their good play.

Beck got some games and was probably shocked by the difference in the level of the NHL over the AHL which is fine. He didn't stand out in a good or a bad way.

Now that the Habs are truly "in the mix" we need a better option as a 13th forward, I don't know if ABB is the guy but I would like to see one of the bigger physical guys get the call.
I would say that Davidson would be the best replacement for Heineman as a physical winger who drives the net and can score, play well defensively and a bit more ahead of the curve than Tuch. The guy's got 24 points in 34 games and a super impressive +16 whereas the next best is a +9.

I wouldn't be surprised if they keep Reinbacher and stick him on a pair with Xhekaj next year. Demidov like you said is basically a lock. I do wonder what they'll do with that extra bottom 6 spot. If Roy can't crack the lineup next year with that type of opening, he may be doomed to become the next Chatles Hudon lol. But for all the prospects, they should all know that it's anyone's spot if they choose to take it

Are you Interruptering me? That's Bad Manners.

Funnily enough, while I always liked Madness, they're not one of my fave ska bands. But I finally saw them last year and they were fanf***ingtastic, really fun
I saw English Beat, back in the day, around 1987 I think. If I recall it was a 4-band show at McGill stadium with Police headlining as well as Flock of Seagulls. And Marjo as the ill-suited opener.

I've probably been to hundreds of concerts over time. It shows on my Spotify account.

On an unrelated note, a dead ringer for Fine Young Cannibals lead singer is a friend of mine and former tennis partner, Frank Baylis (that was true 25 years ago at least). You might hear about him as the Liberal leadership race heats up.

I had friends in Montreal ska and punk bands in the 80s (Double Agent, Sons of the Desert). Back then I mostly went to punk/hardcore shows and ska/reggae shows. The ska shows were usually more fun because there were actually girls at them vs the 10:1 sausage fest ratio at punk shows haha. And you could dance with them vs moshing with sweaty guys. I saw General Public in May 85 - i remember it was May cuz my friends picked me up from the train after my first and only year at UWO before I transferred back to Concordia and we went to Brasserie Des Pins before heading to the show. It was at some theatre on St Denis or thereabouts and they had regular theatre seating which was insanely stupid bc we trashed all the chairs when we started dancing on them. Weird venue but fun show. I figure I've been to around 750 shows in my lifetime (I'm turning 60 soon). Still go to 10-20 a year, still mostly punk ones but a wider range. Seeing Iggy this March. Doing more festivals now (Rebellion this August) so can see more bands - but festivals are still like seeing animals at the zoo - it's not their natural habitat, they should be in shitty dive. Ska/Reggae bands tho are natural for festivals imo. That Police show sounds great, never saw them unfortunately
