Post-Game Talk: Habs defeat les Sénateurs d'Ottawa

Well said.

I think there is value in bringing him back for atleast another year or two as a bottom-6 guy, when you take out the disappointment of the cost of the trade to get him he’s been relatively serviceable - sometimes more so than others. He seems to be close-knit with some of our top players like Caufield and Suzuki and he’s playing good hockey for us in a bottom-6 role.
Ok but

If he doesn't take like ~3M it's so long cya

Odds are they let him walk tho

But he's giving himself hope for another NHL contract somewhere at least
As long as it helps us right now

I've always liked Struble. Tough as nails. Knows his limits. Skates well for his size.

The Guhle injury was a great opportunity for him to show he can step up. He's still so young. All the Dmen are (Guhle, Struble, Arber, Hutson). They are all gonna get better.

We forget how long it actually takes Dmen to hit their stride. And once they hit, they're solid for a while.

Sergachev and Hedman took a few years to really reach their top end. Same with McDonagh.

He has been better than Savard since Guhle was injured imo

Can't enjoy the win without adding a nonsense take about a player that isn't even playing... This is why we can't have nice things.

Fyi perhaps if you watched the game you'd have seen that the team rallied despite a very weak goal putting them behind in the third period. Double fail in one post, bravo.

I have it on good authority that Dach f***ed his mom, sister and girlfriend.

Struble was in a tough situation where he was in an out of the lineup along with playing with different D partners which is difficult for a young D to adjust to.

Since the break he's made the most of his opportunities and hasn't looked out of place with Hutson. If/when Guhle comes back, Struble has earned the opportunity to stay in the lineup.

At the very least, he;s shown that he can step up if they let Savard go next year/bring back Savard in a 7th capacity.

When Struble turned pro, first playing in Laval and then called up to Montreal, Struble was an effective defenseman. Simple plays and using his physicality. But somewhere along the way this year, he lost that effectiveness, which is normal for a young player, particularly on D. Right now, he's found that effective game he was playing.

Xhekaj was the same. He lost what made him effective for a while. And now it's like he's figured out how to play a more complete and consistent game for Arber.

This is what good teams do. When one falls, another steps in.

100%. It's rare we get a player who comes into the league and immediately makes an impact. In most cases, even the top picks, need time to become effective. Some more than others, but they still need time.

We already have one 3rd line center in Evans we don't need two. 4th line players on contenders are signed for 700k-900k. Unless Dvorak wants to extend for that kind of money he should be out. People did not learn anything from the last 30 years, Contenders give money to top players and they rotate the depth. We give money to depth and we rotate top players. That's not the way to go.

Extending Armia and Dvorak depends on what they ask and if Dach or Newhook are out. You need to at least free one spot for Demidov so someone has to be out. We can afford a 4th line paid like a 2nd line because we have a young team. Wont always be the case once we start contending the 4th line will have to be paid like a 4th line. Like for Evans KH will ask those guys to accept their role on the ice but in the contract too. If they get greedy either in term or money i doubt KH will budge.

The only free spot is pretty much the 2C that Hughes needs to go get. I suspect Evans will be moved into Dvorak's spot between Gallagher and Anderson. So then you have Newhook and Dach with Heineman which is actually a decent third line ngl

It will be interesting how the habs move forward at center.

I personally think the Habs will be targeting a 2C externally. Whether it's a bridge guy on a short term deal, or a long term bet on a younger option, i don't know.

But I think dach is getting left further behind. This was a big year for him but it took so long for him to get going, and he never really reached the level that I saw prior to his surgery regardless. Now he's shut down again. That's two disappointing seasons in a row, and I really do believe that his future beyond next year with the Habs is not a bright one.

Dach's done. Anyone can bookmark it or save it and quote me if I'm wrong, I will gladly eat it.

IMO, there's no way to come back and mentally be fine after what he's been through. He has never really established himself as the type of player he wanted to be. There's no real 'form' to return to in his case (unlike a Monahan for example). There's a form of what he could be/could have been, but it's just not realistic.

He looked timid/scared to get hurt a lot of this season before eventually getting injured again which is, in my opinion, why he also didn't play very well. I'm not blaming him for that at all, but this injury will not help that.

I'm not Nostradamus and I've been wrong plenty of times before but I just don't see a way back for him, especially with this team.

It's gonna be tough.. but they have him on a reasonable deal for another year, and still have his RFA rights. It will be up to him to figure out how he can contribute, but he won't be relied on to be a 2C anymore.. he may have to invent himself as a middle 6 winger.
