He’s the one (but with an expiry date).

Slaf with the most ice time of all forwards.
It's taken awhile. But I love how MSL has slowly fed Slaf ice time. Some players seem to learn slower than others. I don't think Slaf is a quick learner. So MSL slowly feeding him ice time and information, really seems to be working for him.

Part of the reason I don't want to get rid of Andy is his heart. You could tell this slump was really eating on him. Hope tonight is the start of him fully regaining his confidence.

I think at some point in the season, when things start looking like they will fall apart, then you look for more losses. However, in my opinion, at this time of the year, I'd rather see them get wins.

I don't disagree that picking high in the draft gives you a better player to select and the Habs can use some of those. But I don't think it's fair to only look at where they will draft. We do need to look at the young guys who are here now and not waste their developments.

Habs have a plethora of draft capital and a big bank of prospects, with a lot of depth on D. So Hughes can always find young, skilled players through trades a la Dach and Newhook.
Dach has now lost 2 years of development. He was developing well. I'm pretty confident neither player will be close to, or above 100 points in their career.

Newhook and Dach could add to a group of fairly good players to give the team depth. Might be the new way to go with how the league is, but that said the Habs need that high draft pick with a better probability of being that high-end, game breaking offensive player.

Never had doubt they would pull this out.

OK a little.

Wins are nice, but the Habs need losses. Not going to make it, so hopefully they plummet.
Agreed. This road trip will tell the tale though. Most of the west coast teams are crap so if they lose most of them they aren't going anywhere. But if they win the majority of them Hughes may not want to jettison players who can actually contribute.

Slaf is really solid defensively. I thought he touched the puck before Nick passed to Dvorak.
Well he didn't on the assist he did get these things have a way of evening out. That line is better defensively than at anytime I can remember since Toffy left.
It's only when they are stuck out there too long that they run into trouble and it's often a D turnover that does it.

Tsn website has Slaf with an assist.

That was a slump buster type of night. Great to see Anderson finally score. Ditto Caufield.

Great hit by Guhle to take out the forechecking forward on the dump in on the ENG. Same with Slafkovsky who made sure his man couldn't get to that puck so it went to Suzuki. No points, but those two set up that 5th goal.

Thought Montreal was going to blow it in 3rd, but they played well in final 3 minutes to close it out.

They're back to .500, but the annual 7 game Christmas/New Year's road trip now begins.

Nice way to close out the year on home ice.

Road trip is really a 3 game trip, xmas break, then 4 game sun trip.

I hope they can build on this to win 2/3 before Xmas... Would be nice for the team to get that small break riding on a high note.

He definitely looks like he's taken the next step. At this point, it seems that we've only seen the tip of the iceberg.
Its crazy how he went from 0 to 100 in a matter of a week. Insane development.

Ive been watching him since 2021, he hasnt shown that level of play IMO. The potential was there for sure but he hadnt shown anything hes showing right now.

I just need him to start wiring snipes, now

I'm not disagreeing with you. But right now, I'd rather be the Habs than the Sens, Sabres, Blue Jackets or Ducks who are picking high almost every year, have game breaking talent, but the team is still at the bottom.

Agreed, he'd show flashes of what he could do. Sadly they were few and far between. As you say though, in the last week or two. It's like he's a much better player. A lot more consistent.

Yes he definitely seems to be overpassing, when he should be shooting more. That will come though, my confidence in Slaf is going through the roof.
