I’m going to feel really bad for one of the Montreal goaltenders if they are in fact traded to Edmonton. NO one wants to play there. Montembault found his home here, Allen plays lights out like vintage price some night and Primeau is trending upwards with a lot of potential still for his age.
Pretty sure the Oilers will start to win a bunch of games if they get league average goaltending. Somebody like Montembault would have a chance to be a hero there.

i'm talking about benching Ylonen while Anderson is getting 1st PP time.
So… this makes MSL equal to guys like Therrien?

Dude, have you watched us for the past twenty years? It’s one thing to disagree with a PP roster move, a whole other thing to equivocate MSL with a bunch of morons.

I mean Ylonen not being in the power play is nowhere near the same thing as the car wrecks we’ve seen with those other coaches.

Nice to wake up to a win, and more importantly many players that could be part of the future having good games:

- Struble
- Montembault
- Newhook
- Ylonen and Slaf were good in the parts I saw
- Matheson - didn't see enough, but for all his lapses, he's bringing the offense. I think he has the potential to iron out the defensive side.
- Guhle's a staple

And there were probably others, though I only saw so much.

Matheson makes the same defensive blunders he’s been making as a rookie 7-years ago which has led to being on his 3rd team - he is what he is flaws and all

Given his age and the type of player he's been in now his 8th season as an NHL regular, we can safely assume that Five-Star Man is who he is. He'll always be prone to major lapses and they'll often come in bunches, as we've seen.

He's a roller coaster of a player -- capable of the best, faltering precipitously and rising again, all within a few minutes.

If he's properly deployed and his minutes are managed (2nd pairing), then the defensive liability he represents can be suppressed somewhat but that's as much as can be hoped for, IMHO.

But I can't deny that it's frustrating when they get overwhelmed and they start running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Their second periods are dreadful to watch because they get hemmed in and guys are out there for a minute, maybe 2, and it's not fun.
A crazy stat that kind shows this is that when the other team pulls their goalie we have 0 GF and 5 GA. Those 5 GA not only lead the league, but over the past few seasons on average a team should be scoring 70% of the goals when the opposing teams pulls their goalie, being at 0% is absurdly bad. But it does kind of show that we can get panicky and stuck in our end. And the failure to get the puck out when we do gain control really hurts us.

But it's kind of to be expected, inexperience leads to inconsistency which leads to that sort of stuff. But the trend is in the right directions, goals against are going down, goals for are going up, we even have a positive goal differential at 5 on 5 this year.

Alex Newhook play like a 30g 30a player. I see that in him and that will be very good to have that type of player. Great top 6 player, for sure!

I didn't saw the match outside like the first 5 minutes. So MSL benched his 3rd line except Evans for the entire 3rd period despite having the lead. :skeptic:

Getting dominated by the Ducks is a new low. Bruins and Vegas are top teams, the Ducks finished lower than the Habs last year and currently have the same record (1 more win, but Habs have 2 loser points) despite playing in the putrid West....
Pezzetta took a big hit and quite likely had a concussion near the end of the 2nd. Not sure he was even on the bench for the 3rd period. Ylonen on the otherhand I have no idea why he didn't get any shifts in the 3rd.

Has anyone from the league explained why a goal scored with 0.3 seconds remaining on the clock did not count?

From what I understood, since I didn't watch the game live, they checked the clock after the goal was scored and at the arena it went in after the clock hit 0.0.

We all hope so but some of us are not fazed by small sample size exploits. It’s wait and see time.

This is how Special Guhle is

Struble plays his 1st NHL game last night at 22 yrs old

Guhle is already our best defenseman at 21 yrs old lol its incredible
Team high 5 hits, team high 3 blocked shots, and oh yeah why not a goal too
According to the boxscore only one other Habs dman even had a hit and it was Struble so the entire Habs D had 6 total hits with Guhle having 5 and Struble having 1 while the rest of the marshmallow soft D had zero hits.

Although this team’s architect is supposedly Hughes, we can easily connect some of this to how Gorton had turned the Rangers into a team of marshmallows that got roughed up badly in the playoffs.

Slaf had 3 hits (equal to Pezz). Caufield had two!

But the real problem is that when you are chasing the play, you can't hit anything.

I hope we’re not counting on the likes of Caufield to play physical.

We’ll have to wait for Florian and Tuch.

I'm actually surprised Caufield managed to hit anything. He sometimes bump into players, but I wouldn't call that hitting.

Slaf has been physical, 4th on the team in hits since the season started and still learning to use his body.
